Waist Now. Want Not.
If you've been lax on your Reformer classes or skipping those Bar Method sessions... let me warn you that spring is nearly upon us and you'll have nowhere to hide once that calendar hits March. Have you seen the fresh looks I'm seeing? Curve hugging goodness, girls! Platform shoes, to-die-for dresses (in that yummy knee-length) and most importantly: waistlines! This season's looks showcase your best assets and believe me you'll want to be toned and fabulous to rock these looks.
It;s not about being skinny... in fact, I think these looks are all about celebrating a woman's curves. In at the waist and va-va-voom at the hips. Play up your best features and you'll be good to go.
Because I adore them, Isabella Oliver is my (not so) secret source for items that won't be seen all over town. The secret of course is their jersey and their commitment to showcasing rather than hiding the body. Spring 2012 does NOT disappoint. And more importantly... COLOR is here! Pink, blue, orange... I love it. Of course I've only shown you a sliver of the collection, but these were four looks I absolutely must have. Visit their site for the full array of goodies (including those incredible leopard accessories shown in the bottom right look). And seriously... hit those classes. Confidence is the most appealing thing a woman can wear!

Words With Friends... The Old School Edition
It's fascinating to me that in a texting, BBM'ing world we also relish and celebrate the beauty of stationery. I do think it's possible, though, that we love the artistry, nostalgia and idea of beautiful papergoods and handwritten notes more than we relish the actual use of them. We love to fawn over letterpress on Etsy and the newest designer collabs at establish stationers... but the number of handwritten notes I receive (and send, frankly) clearly absolutely decreased. In the meantime, my inbox runneth over.
Does that stop me (or any of us) from coverting limited edition creations like Oscar de la Renta's new Mrs. John L Strong produced line of stationery? Not a chance. Will it dampen my desire for Vreeland's (that being Alexander Vreeland... grandson to undisputed fashion icon Diana Vreeland) Special Edition Card Set available exclusively at Barney's. Never.
Just two days ago, in fact, I placed my order for custom Crane's note cards and personalized envelopes. I do this each year, always with a slight twist on my normal design. It's an expression of self and always a personal journey to create something that reflects my mood or current style. Somehow the pretty box with custom papers bearing my name actually prompts me to write little notes. It's the letter writing equivalent of having a TotalGym in your bedroom. You invested in it, and to not use it is a waste of time and money.
And now, with even more glamorous sets like Oscar's on the scene I may find myself placing an additional order. The de la Renta paper goods assortment features glamorous sets of individually hand-pressed pieces printed on luxury weight creamy paper. Choose from note cards, invitations, and place cards - each featuring beautifully embossed gilded bows and the designer's emblem on the inside of the envelopes. How positively irresistible is that? For the ladylike among us, these glamorous little notes are the perfect way of inviting friends for a fete or simply saying thank you.
(Editor's tip: since these aren't personalized, they make an ideal last minute holiday gift for that stylish friend, sister or loved one.)
Shop for yours at Oscar de la Renta.

Venti Girl Holiday Gift Guide: The Scent-sational Sibling
Ahhh, home fragrances. We all want something different from them. Some long for their homes to smell of fresh baked cookies. Others pine for the scent of the great outdoors. I tend to gravitate towards citrus-y scents in summer and spring, and warmer more enveloping fragrances during cooler temps.
On my olfactory senses now: NEST's Pumpkin Chai candle. Oh, my, goodness. By name alone I'd never think this would be my fragrance, but somehow the notes come together to create this seductive aroma that I cannot get enough of right now.
If you have a hard to shop for sister or an even choosier brother, it's hard to go wrong with a prettily packaged candle. I imagine they will swoon for the scent as much as I... but if not, the posh packaging makes it easy as pie for them to add to their regifting closet. And really, isn't that a win-win proposition for us all?

Drexel Heritage: High Point Market Showroom Tour
As you may recall, my great friend Elaine Williamson stood in for me on the High Point Market blogger tour. She and some of my favorite online (and offline) friends were shown around in style by brand representatives and the High Point Market Authority themselves. An insider's look at new collections, the customization process and emerging market trends.
Her biggest surprise was her own response to Drexel Heritage. Elaine wasn't as familiar with the brand and was impressed by the depth of their customization options, the frames available throughout the collections and the very high end appeal of this brand.
{Full disclosure: my company does some professional work with Drexel's parent company Furniture Brands, as well as a few of this company's sister brands... but that doesn't alter the fact that I am a genuine fan of Drexel's seriously hot pieces.}
The frames, the fabric selection, the wide array of custom finishes, the designer trim... this is no ordinary brand. Drexel offers tradition with a massive dose of glamour thrown in just for the sheer fun of it.
Throw in glamorous pieces like this Cloe Lamp Table (which I desperately need in my living room right now) and I'm a fan for life. One of the creative geniuses behind the success of this brand is Denise Alala. If you've not been in the showroom to meet this gorgeous force of nature, you're missing out. It's clear she has design genius in her veins. A few Markets back I had the pleasure of walking solo with her through the showroom and was so impressed not only with her style outlook, but her ability to render that vision flawlessly into the finished product.
Much like Pearson's Jennifer McConnell, Denise has seems to have a peephole into the future of design. She's a step or two ahead of the rest of the crowd, and if you're not following her cues you're going to miss out and wonder what just happened without you.
For a tiny sample of this force at work, tune into the Drexel blog to see what she and Carl drum up next.

One in Every Color
I try very hard to resist the temptation to purchase multiple colors of the same item. Occasionally, however, a piece is so timeless, so perfect, so impossibly "Franki" that I realize I'd be a fool to pass up the opportunity to invest in as many as I can get my pretty hands upon. Well... I've found something...
The "Fay Two Way Top" from Vanessa Knox absolutely floors me. If it the epitome of sleek styling and relaxed comfort rolled into one. Toss it over jeans and wear it draped around your neck in a gentle cowl. Or for dressier occasions wear it off the shoulder with a sweeping floor-length skirt for an unapologetic sexy look. Imagine it with a long, fabulous necklace or with hair swept up and chandelier earrings? This beauty is begging to go out on the town.
Versatility never looked so glamorous. Normally, even if I find such a magical item, the colors are all just a bit "off" leaving me wanting. Not in this case. Vanessa has masterfully chosen three colors I can't possibly choose between. A mysterious shade called "mouse" that offers irresistible softness, a shade of violet that would look great on any complexion and an impossibly pretty charcoal that will be reached for every time I open my closet.
Know what else I love? Aside from the incredible ruching (oh my!), it has those sleeves that are a touch too long. I absolutely love that detail. And the fabric is a supremely soft blend of wool and modal blend jersey ensuring comfort and impeccable fit. This just has yummy perfection written all over it. *sigh*
I'm in love with this piece. I'm also shamelessly admitting I'll be investing in one of each for my closet. Thank you, Vanessa, for reading my mind and answering my fashion prayer.
See the rest of her incredible collection at VanessaKnox.com.

Venti Cup's Joss & Main Curator's Collection Starts Today!
Today is the day! This morning my Joss & Main Curator's Collection will go live. The theme is Livable Glamour.
To me, true luxury is surrounding yourself with a home that is as luxurious as it is inviting. The key to achieving this lifestyle? Careful selection of those things you add to your home. Taking a bit more time to inspect upholstery, invest in quality furnishings, add accessories that have significance to you. It is a curated look. Think: hand-tufted wool rugs, unexpected objets d′art, comfortable seating in plush fabrics, soothing color palettes. I love mixing textures and periods. Decorating in this way creates warmth and interest in every room of your home. It is as sophisticated as it is welcoming, and that is true luxury.
As in so many areas, I've taken a cue from our European counterparts. Livable Glamour is not a "fresh off the showroom floor" look. Each item in your home (and your closet for that matter) should be something you absolutely love. Focus on touchable textures, interesting details and quality pieces that are stylish but not trendy... all of these combine to create an air of effortlessly chic style. This is how you build a great wardrobe AND style a fabulous home.
Today's Joss & Main Curator's Collection will showcase some of my favorite pieces sourced from the incredible Joss & Main catalog. Each item has been personally selected by me and chosen for it's ability to exude effortless elegance. Choose one, choose many... but remember to passionately pursue those pieces you love! Effortless glamour comes from loving your surroundings and expressing your personal style through your choices.
Happy shopping, everyone! Après vous!

Beauty Sleep
A few products have earned "hall of fame" status in my nighttime routine. First... the sleep mask. I've used one now for many years. Issue? can't sleep without it. Heaven help me if I lose one. I've tried many, and the Chris Notti masks are the only ones that leave no marks on the face. They are fabulous and come is very smooth silk in many beautiful patterns. Choose one that's right for you.
Next... set the mood for sweet dreams with an amazing scent. After a while you'll associate blissful sleep with the aroma. I love the new Grapefruit fragrance from Nest. Oh. Em. Gee. It smells unbelieveable. Try it and you'll agree.
Finally, a little boost for my skin. This is new, but I'm hooked. Night-a-Mins has always been great. Now that they've bolstered it with C and other vitamins, it's beyond amazing. Not bad for the price, either. A nighty, night must.

IO + YOU
Seriously, ladies... if you're not adding Isabelloa Oliver pieces to your wardrobe you are missing out on some of the yummiest, most sumptuous jersey knit pieces on the market. Natalie Portman, Selma Blair, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani, Sophie Dahl, Naomi Watts, Minnie Driver and Jennifer Lopez are just a handful of the gorgeous celebs who would agree with me on this one.
These are incredibly well made pieces. If you didn't know it, the brand offers two lines of clothing. Maternity for stylish moms to be and the 365 Collection for thoseof us not rocking a bump. If I had to describe the look of the line it's sexy sophisticate. It's exactly how I like to dress on a daily basis. Form fitting classics in fresh colors with clean details. Streamlined, stylish and unfussy. If you crave easy, effortless glamour this is clearly your brand.

My Happy Place: Roma!
It's been an interesting summer filled with twists and turns at every corner. Some pleasant, some not. When I need to focus my mind on positive things I go to my happy place. No, not the upholstered seating at my local Jimmy Choo boutique (although that's nice too). I go to Rome. Roma! My absolute favorite place.
Rome is a city as deeply connected to its past as it is the future. Modern citizens zip around with the latest fashions and smartphones on chic Vespas as they pass ancient ruins lining centuries old cobblestone streets. It is a feast for the senses and my Mecca, if you will.
As an art history addict and an avid photographer, this city offers more than can be consumed in a short period of time. Add to that, fast fashion, well heeled people from all over the globe and grand things (both old and new) around every corner, and you've created the ultimate destination for a girl like me. The Chanel boutique at the base of the Spanish Steps flanking the world famous Berninin fountain sums up why I love this great European destination: the best life has to offer, both old and new. With breathtaking views at every corner.
After our first time in Rome, we found ourselves to enchanted that we booked a return trip not quite 12 months later. That time we lingered in the region for several week, taking in all that Italy had to offer. Even after weeks in a rented Roman apartment, my thirst for the area was not quenched. I eagerly await our return to this great, majestic city.
Fortunately, Tablet hotels wants to award a winner (me, please!) a five night all expenses paid trip to my favorite city and will enjoy the lovely Hotel Capo d'Africa. The historic building was once a school. Now all they teach is the art of leisure and luxury. The rooftop terrace is not to be missed, offering panoramic views of The Colosseum and all that Roma has to offer. The attentive staff will have you forgetting your name and your place or origin. And true to the rest of the city's study in contrasts, accommodations are as modern as one could hope for despite the building's antiquated facade.
Seeking your own Roman Holiday? Enter to win.

Dream Destination: Cap Estel
If you've not yet been to the Cote D'Azur, you absolutely must discover this posh region for yourself. Lush scenery, pristine beaches and some of the world's most wealthy, beautiful people roaming the streets. It is absolute heaven on earth. Add to that the perfectly mild climate of the Mediterranean and the effortless upscale vibe and you may soon be asking yourself why you don't live here year round. But unless you're the Princess of Monaco (let me pause on that note to fantasize... 3...2...1...) you'll need to go home periodically to handle that pesky citizenship issue.
But back to the photos above of this incredible hotel. Cap Estel has been a fixture on the French Riviera since the 1950's. A private hideaway located between Nice and Monte Carlo, the luxury hotel has played host to such celebrities as Catherine Deneuve and the Beatles - not to mention certain royal family members from distant lands that choose not to be mentioned by name. After all... this is a discreet boutique hotel good at keeping private matters private.
My suggestion? Treat yourself for the luxuriously appointed 5000 square foot suite. It comes complete with complimentary champagne, expansive marble floors and features breathtaking views of the Mediterranean - a sight you'll want to behold from your private terrace. Go ahead... live the life of luxury you deserve. And throw a few chips on the table for me while you're there.

Room Service
If you've spent any time in the Greek Isles dotting the Aegean Sea you'll agree that most of the interior design is similar. Breezy sheers, minimalist furnishings and a very white, white, white color palette. Honestly, I get it. The point of the journey is the spectacular view. And one of the thrills of travel abroad is the "sense of place" you get. Rome has its unique architecture, Venice has canals, Barcelona has its Gaudi-rich city vibe. The Greek Isles are recognizable for their whitewashed buildings climbing up steep hills with splashes of cobalt blue roofs peppering the landscape. If you fell from heaven into Santorini you'd likely know it when you opened your eyes. It's part of the charm.
This little jewel of a hotel, however, didn't get the memo on about bleached white sheets and cotton canvas chairs. Oh no. In fact, the Elounda Gulf Villas & Suites in Crete is unabashedly flamboyant in its use of color and opulence. One look at those suites and I am absolutely sold. Ivory bedding, beautifully upholstered furnishings and a rather luxe atmosphere distinguish this from the bulk of other boutique properties I've seen in this region.
We have a special place in our hearts for Greece since we were married there, and we are always looking for new places to discover. There's no way I'm going to Crete without a four night stay here. This is absolutely gorgeous and that unbelievable view will knock your socks off at sunset, let me assure you.
This boutique hotel tops my list for several reasons. In addition to complimentary use of the Elixir Spa (that's right, f-r-e-e), guests in villas enjoy their very own infinity pool with outstanding views of the Mediterranean. Settled. Villa is a must. Opa!
Get the full scoop here on Kiwi Collection.

Today's Journey... Luxurious Cannes
Nestled in the idyllic Mediterranean town of Théoule-sur-mer, Tiara Yaktsa Cannes is the epitome of European luxury. Escape the crowds at this private retreat or enjoy the vibrant social scene of Cannes and Saint-Tropez. This incredible boutique hotel is everything a you could want from a Côte d'azur getaway. Movie star glamour, intoxicating fragrances wafting from the manicured gardens on the grounds, exquisite accommodations and that incomparable view of the deep-blue sea conspire to lure you to extend stay...indefinitely. Come. Relax. Dream of a life more fabulous. It does indeed exist here.

Sweet Life, Indeed!
Thank you so much, Paloma, for featuring my future home on your blog. This is a composite of the elements I must have in house when I "grow up" (that's entrepreneur-speak for striking billionaire status). Yes, it's in Southern Cali... and you can bet she's one fabulous manse. Take a looksie! For more details, see the posts filed under "things to do before I die" - it spills all the juicy details!
This is an incredible series that Paloma has been running (P, exactly how do you juggle so much at once?) allowing us to peer into the hopes, dreams, plans and aspirations of fellow bloggers. I think it's a wonderful idea and it was a bit more challenging to find photos than I'd imagined. Once you begin plotting your course, however, it's all quite easy.
First rule of success: know what you want. So simple, right? Without a SPECIFIC goal in mind (like this house) you'll never hit your mark. My suggestion? Dream it, find pix of it, write out those goals and purchase the biggest inspiration board you can possibly find - then fill it with images (detailed images) of your "wants" and your "gotta have it or I might just die" elements. Place it over your desk, on your wall or wherever you'll see it every single day. It's not going to do you any favors living behind your closet door. This must invade your space and be in your face daily.
Then look at your to-do list each day... is there anything on there getting you closer to this? Are you aligned with your goals? Check yourself... no point cheating here as you'll only be failing yourself.
For more inspiration, try browsing hooked on houses, Luxist or the Robb Report. Happy plotting!

Venti Loves Pearson
I've been quietly in love with a brand for some time now. A love affair was born from the moment I sat on the icy blue velvet Billy Baldwin-esque sectional above. (Hello there, handsome!) It was located at the entrance of the Pearson showroom in High Point several markets ago. As it turns out, the entire space was loaded with incredible pieces waiting to be discovered. As a few of us enjoyed a tour we discovered vignette after vignette of incredible work. Trina Turk here, eglomise there, imported one-of-a-kind pieces there.
I knew right then and there that this brand wasn't nearly as conservative as I once believed. Their secret weapon? Creative director Jennifer McConnell. She is so far ahead of the trend curve that it boggles the mind. Her bold upholstery choices and color combos are at least a season ahead. At least. Her creations are nothing short of breathtaking and her eye for noteworthy details in unrivaled.
I'm almost convinced she has a crystal ball in her office hidden behind that wall of textile samples. The reality is that Jennifer scours the globe in her never ending quest for the next big thing. She coolfinds and we enjoy the bounty of her worldly discoveries. In addition to the occasional antique and exclusive fabrics, that worldly exploration translates into new additions to the product line and unique ways of presenting the look. Her informed eye keeps Pearson's collection in the pages of those glossy shelter magazines and in our living rooms. It may sound like a dream job (yes, it certainly does), but a position of this magnitude is hard work even if you love to travel.
It says a lot about this very established company (they are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year) they they share her vision and her creative direction. The brand enjoys a a deeply traditional base, but it's important to realize that traditional really means timeless and classic. Pearson offers surprising details, some impeccably chic silhouettes and downright fresh designs.
Not long after that initial moment on the sectional my company began working with Pearson to design and launch their textile site, PearsonTextiles.com. A great working relationship evolved and I began to more fully understand the brand and the uniqueness of the products. This year our creative team redesigned their main site. Around the time of April market we realized that what was missing from the mix was a platform for showing Pearson's true vibe. Their look is young, fresh and vibrant. I took a personal interest in wanting to showcase that vision.
The news? I'm now taking on the role of blogger and social media presence for Pearson myself. I'll be sprinkling a little of that Venti touch on the Pearson blog and have even fired up a twitter handle for them.
Here on Venti Cup I straddle the line between fashion, travel and interiors. That special mix is the recipe behind the Venti cocktail. But I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to focusing exclusively on furnishings and interior design. It is my true passion and my focus. There will be a constant stream of posts falling under the category of Jennifer's Journeys. In these I'll interview Jennifer to learn more about her global searches for the new and fabulous. What did she see? Who did she meet? What was it like? What did she wear? And of course: how was the coffee? of course what we really need to know is whether or not she sourced a new crystal ball. Inquiring minds want to know.
This is also a chance to showcase some of their more unusual custom creations. In the world of luxury furnishings every order is custom, but occasionally a client needs something incredibly specific and unique. In these cases I will be able to reveal some of the artist renderings that were drawn up before the unique masterpiece was created.
This isn't just a few posts here and there... this is me digging into a brand in a way I've never done before. A brand I truly love. There is a lot to explore and I'm very excited by the partnership. Slide on over to the Pearson Inspiration blog so you can show me some blog love. And...follow me on Twitter as well. The fun is about to begin!

Dream House: Let's Go Outside
Still compiling my notes on the Venti Dream Home I find myself so caught up in the outside of the home that I'm reluctant to veer indoors. That's because I really need a strong relationship between indoors and outdoors in this home. An ebb and flow between the two. Sweeping views from the house, reflections of water sparkling on the ceiling. Multiple sets of arched French doors beckoning you in from the patio. If I sound like a broken record it's because this vision never changes. These images have been sourced from around the web, mainly on swanky SoCal properties.

Venti Girl Gift Guide: The Culinary Queen
Normally the rule "if it requires batteries or a power cord, don't even think about it" applies to all gifts for birthdays, Christmas, mother's day, anniversaries and other girly occasions. But as I passed this shining beauty in the window of Williams-Sonoma last week I mentally gave this raspberry wonder my stamp of approval. This culinary cutie is slightly smaller than her industrial strength big sisters and is part of Kitchenaid's Cook for the Cure initiative. Support the cause, bake up some cupcakes and revel in your kitchen's new found glory. Now that's one heck of a gift trifecta.

Show Me Your Dallas, Elaine Williamson
Elaine Williamson. Where do I begin? I'll start with saying we had far too little time together on our morning excursion. We met at our favorite Starbucks (turns out we don't live so far away from one another) and got so caught up talking - and I mean REALLY talking - that the morning began to slip away faster than you can say doppio espresso.
Elaine is something of a design phenomenon. Though she'll downplay her success, she runs a widely recognized design business. Elaine Williamson Designs is a full service luxury interior design firm, and this girl has mad skills. She and her team have been winning accolades and awards (not to mention happy clients) for two decades. It's no wonder she boasts such a broad Texan smile, she has many stylish reasons to be happy.
Beyond that (and sorry, E, but someone has to toot your horn. Beep! Beep!) she's as genuinely nice as a person can be. After each of these outings I leave thrilled to have met another incredible female, but Elaine might truly be the winner of the Venti Bestie Award (note to self: design said award certificate). Although we'd met a time or two before in High Point, this was our first real "girl to girl" moment together. We instinctively gabbed like long lost pals and spent a good hour or so dishing up on everything under the sun. (Seriously, Elaine - where have you been all of my adult life? I desperately needed those laughs and frank conversations.)
Once we'd reached optimum caffeine levels she led me down the street to The Shops at Starwood. This lovely little shopping destination is a regular haunt of mine. The Cupcakery, Paper Affair, Panache, Green Peridot and others make up a select group of merchants occupying space at this glamorous center. My husband and I regularly pop in for some of the area's best sushi at Kotta. Something about The Shops always makes me think of Scottsdale, Arizona. Palm trees swaying overhead, barrel tile roofs and a specific shade (putty?) of stucco romance me in ways that only destination shopping can do.
Where did she lead me? An adorable children's boutique called Dimples and Dandelions. Interestingly, I knew of the shop before moving to the area. They have a terrific web presence and I've been an online customer for years. But stepping into the boutique took my shopping experience to an entirely new level.
The husband & wife owners Wendy and Michael are very selective with the brands they choose to carry and the products on display. Finely crafted beds, unique gifts and some of the prettiest clothing I've seen occupy this glamorous little boutique. It is well merchandised, beautifully presented and just so lovingly presented.
Wendy's interior design background is obvious from floor to ceiling. Sparkling chandeliers and thoughtful design details make this boutique an enchanting place to visit. I genuinely love this store. My favorite feature? In the back corner there is a children's lounge outfitted with toys, an LCD television and an antique settee. Between this feature and the attentive staff a busy mom can almost always get some actual shopping done. Smart.
During our visit I had the pleasure of meeting Wendy in person. She's as gracious and friendly as the rest of her staff. I can see why this boutique is bustling with customers every time I visit. Good customer service is hard to find, and her team offers personal attention far beyond what is expected. {By the way, they are in the running for Best Children's Boutique in Dallas by D Magazine. If you're a fan, be sure to vote!}
Elaine... I had the most lovely time out with you. Next time let's add lunch to our itinerary to fuel us for the day ahead. We've got much more to chat about and I think some fine food is in order to celebrate our blossoming friendship. Thank you again for showing me your Dallas!

Silly over Milly
Every spring I have this Milly "moment" where I want to rush out and buy up Shoshanna, Milly and DVF dresses. There's a prettiness to them and a freshness that I just love. Sometimes it's a shift dress, other times a a waist-whittling "ladies who lunch" style frock. Eyelet, tweed, silk, cotton... it hardly matters. What does matter is that these brands are girly and colorful. But who are we kidding? Right now blue and white dominate. And I swear by my solids, as prints go out of fashion so quickly. Here are a few gems (as well as the adorable designer Michelle "Milly" Smith herself) from the current collection.
I add a few of her pretty summer dresses each year and look forward to pulling them out each time the mercury begins to rise. Now, of course, I'm jonesing for that navy eyelet skirt above and that sensational dress Michelle has on in the top photo. Now that's a dress you'll wear forever. See them all at MillyNY.com.

White Hot
Good Lord, please give me this kitchen. Is that Fortuny-patterned wallpaper behind the gas range? Yes, please. Give me some of that. Loving the contrast of those sexy black pendant lights as well. So out of place that they fit right in. Only tweak I'd make: not keen on the farm table extension for the barstools (seen better in bottom shot). But really, if you gifted me with this lovely space I'd find it quite difficult to complain. It's hard to form words when your jaw is lying on the floor. It's smokin' hot. Hmm... probably a poor choice of words on my part. But you get the point. Consider this my Easter wish.

Turkish Delight
Last week I visited a friend's home and was delighted to see we shared a passion for Trina Turk's magnificent indoor/outdoor fabrics. They are colorful, exotic and bold - but incredibly tasteful. It's not an easy balance to achieve but the talented Mrs. Turk has this mastered. The patio in question was outfitted with my very favorite of Trina's color palettes: the royal blue & teal combo. I favor this combo because it absolutely begs you to dip your toes in the pool. It epitomizes that refreshing summer vibe and really sets the tone for unwinding with friends. It was such a pleasure to see that my very stylish friend had indeed created an outdoor oasis that was as tranquil as it was thrilling.
With all of the new textiles on the market beauty and durability are no longer mutually exclusive. You can have both. You should have both. And savvy moms are making maximum use of these all-weather fabrics indoors as much as out. Little ones with dirty fingers? Husband with a predilection for red wine? These incredible fabrics can handle every challenge you can dish out. Between Trina's colorful options and my beloved Sunbrella velvets I'm in designer heaven - and you should be too.
More to come on those sexy velvets later. In the meantime, get your lemonade ready... summer is coming!

Two-Timing Wonders
Very rarely does a makeup product really deliver on its promises... but these two-timing wonders have made it into the Venti hall of fame. A glosser & plumper that really does both (thank you, Dior!), my longtime favorite tinted Moisturizer (Laura Mercier is a genius) and a new staple: the Clarins Gentle Exfoliating wash. Why pay for two products when one will do beautifully.
The Tinted Moisturizer from Laura Mercier has 20 SPF. In all fairness, I still use a moisturizer AND an SPF (the Clarins UV Plus w/ 40 UVA/UVB SPF) but I can't seem to find any foundation or tint that leaves my skin as dewy as this product. There's something really special about the contents of this tube that keeps me going back for more. The oil-free version doesn't impress me as much, but the "Nude" in the regular formula matches my skin perfectly.
So... any beauty secrets you'd like the share?

Life... Illustrated
Pretty doesn't begin to describe these amazing works by Illustrator Izak Zenou. Suffice it to say I am smitten! Discovered thanks to the Zoe Report. Love you, Rachel!

Spring into Action
Growing up in coastal North Carolina & San Antonio I was spoiled by "climate" versus seasons. It rarely if ever snowed. Coats were more decorative than dire necessity. Summers were hot but never sweltering. In truth the weather was blissful and reliable. Hardly what most of the world experiences. Our time in St. Louis, on the other hand, offered the full spectrum of seasons. Colorful fall, delightful spring and the occasional beautiful snowfall.
Having returned to Texas I'm discovering that Dallas weather is a tempestuous mistress indeed. We were literally snowed in for four days leading up the the Super bowl. The unusual snow thawed in a single day once the sun came out on Saturday, leaving roads clear for the big day on Sunday. Fast forward to this weekend: high 70s. Fabulous? You bet! Predictable? Not a chance.
I ceremoniously packed up and stored all of my boots this week. (Bye-bye, knee-high leathers!) It's open-toe season for this Venti girl. Yesterday was peeptoe platform wedges and capris for me. While I still feel that February displaying on my calendar makes going the Full Monty (that is, flip flops or thong sandals) a bit premature, peeptoes are a nice compromise. A hint of toe without too much toe cleavage. And while every girl in town was getting pumiced and polished to prefection, I was facing a day with a packed calendar and a family ready for some quality time.
Never to fear, my emergency "fab feet for Franki" kit was near. In a pinch (and really, aren't we all functioning on over-packed schedule mode these days?) Fresh Brown Sugar Scrub will fool even the harshest critics until you can get into the salon (that would be today at noon for me, thankyouverymuch). It'll also have your legs looking better than you remembered possible. Double bonus. Top those pretty toes with a melony pink shade of OPI polish (a perennial beauty award winner for good reason), don some wedges and rush out the door.
While it's no fun to dash & go all of the time, I love having tricks like this up my sleve for days when you'd rather enjoy life outdoors than be a slave to a salon appointment. Spring is almost here ladies... book those appointments!

Things I love...
Inspired by Tobi Fairley's recent series, I'm beginning a "things I love" compilation of my own. While I'll certainly dip into details as personal as my favorite nail polish, I'm kicking it off with a decorating weakness: mirrors. Big, small (but preferably gigantic, of course) I adore a great mirror. Lately, my favorites have an aged look and versatile silhouette. This baby above is from wshome.com. Perfect over a powder room vanity or demilune table.
My favorite, however, is the Alvita mirror from Horchow. A bit more embellished than my normal choice, but this beauty would look fabulous in my living room. I am KICKING myself for passing up the chance to snap it up last weekend at 30% off. Given the chance (hint, hint, Horchow!) I'd buy it in an instant (as well as a few other amazing items) if that promotion comes around again.
Stay tuned for more in this series!

Ippolita Rocks
I woke up to the wonderful news that I'd won yesterday's Ippolita Twitter giveaway. Familiar with this brand? You should be. I find myself mesmerized by the jewel tones glistening at the counter at Neiman Marcus. It is an incredible brand with collections that conjur up images of kings and queens of Ancient Sumeria's Ur adorning themselves without restraint. (If you've not brushed up on ancient Mesopotamian civilizations... this is one you won't want to overlook.)
While I've no clue what I might have won, I wanted to showcase some of my favorite pieces from the line. If you still need a Valentine's Day gift for yourself (doesn't every girl do this?), bop on over to their site for something undeniably pretty. And thanks to this amazing brand for their generous gift... whatever it may be!

New Guilty Pleasure
As you might have noticed, I redesigned the blog. (Insert sound of applause here) It was long overdue for a Joan Rivers (that's "facelift" for you reading this pre-coffee). With that comes an updated blogroll. I'll admit I haven't so much as tweaked my list of favorite blogs in ages but I did recently massage it just a touch. It's far from done and surprisingly painful to edit. But you can expect updates soon as I explore the nether-regions of the interweb in search of inspiration. Today's indulgent find? I Want to Be a Roitfield. Which is every bit as fantastic as it sounds.

Glossing It Up
My desk currently boasts an impressive stack of magazines. Glossy, lovely, fabulous new issues of my favorite magazines - completely unread. Who has time? And yet, I cannot pass a coverstand without reaching for the prettiest cover on the shelf. It's an issue (pardon the pun).
On the heels of Lonny, Matchbook, Rue and a smattering of other "digimags" - Paloma and crew finally released the much anticipated premier issue of their own. Much to the benefit of each and every one of us - these are all fantastic publications bound to have a lasting impact on both the readers and the forces behind them. If you're a blogger nursing your blog, you can appreciate how difficult it must be to put together such a massive product as a multi-page magazine. Love my fellow high-achievers!
High Gloss, as the name implies, is indeed glossy and glamorous. I honestly can't recall the last time I devoured a magazine from cover to cover. To me it is the lovechild of InStyle meets Elle Decor meets full interactivity. The ultimate marriage of my two favorite print publications with the clickability and convenience of the web. The tone is that of a chic best friend filling you in on her secrets. It does this without ever seeming haughty or exclusive. In fact, that's what I love best about it - its inclusiveness.
The team behind the magazine presented aspirational content in an approachable format without ever going DIY or seeming distant. I am truly impressed.
The editors also reached out to a handful of bloggers, photogs and other creatives to contribute to the first issue. You'll even see an article in there from yours truly. It might be this "we're all part of the issue" vibe that makes High Gloss so appealing. Mixed in with the bold faced names are bloggers, writers and stylists you know and love - or SHOULD know & love.
Maybe I just happen to be the ideal target audience, but High Gloss really hit the right notes for me. It's a lifestyle magazine and I'm a lifestyle designer. It's a match made in heaven. Equal doses fashion and interiors makes for a mighty fine recipe. Add in dashes of entertaining, beauty and destinations and you've just created the Venti cocktail. Only I didn't have to create it. It's as though they were reading my mind.
Content, layout, photography... it is really a fantastic effort on the part of the editorial team and elegantly put together. While there's much debate over the potential for these projects (and the ultimate value of them in printed form), one thing is certain: we've entered a new era. Anything really is possible. Launching a new business, a new site, a new model, a new vision is all within reach of each of us. The question is not "can you"... the question is WILL YOU. And these girls did.
High Gloss girls, I cannot WAIT for issue number two, three, twelve and so on. Congratulations on a fantastic launch, ladies! Keep that glossy attitude coming!

Happy Weekend!
One of the hardest things to do is find time to work on your OWN projects. It's certainly a blessing to be busy with client work, but when my creativity is in "flood season" you have to capture that power and use it for your own good. I'm determined to chip away at my to-do list and find time for my own dreams.
It's chilly outside and I have no scheduled events for the weekend (how own earth did that happen?). I plan leverage this opportunity and complete as much client work as possible. Done right, next week I can guiltlessly tend to my own tasks and revel in the satisfaction of a job well done.
I hope you spend the weekend doing delicious things and feeling that same sense of victory. That can mean catching up on your Glee episodes (thank you, Hulu Plus!) or finally taking down that tree (you know who you are!) Whatever's on your list, let's make a pact to have most things crossed out by the time Sunday night comes around.
{Sexy dress above? Designed by one of my all time favorite brands, Isabella Oliver. It's on sale for 50% off. It's stunning. It'll do your body (and your confidence) a world of good. Va, va, voom!}

Inspired
I could recap my evening at the Hickory Chair showroom in Dallas... but suffice it to say I am more enamored with Suzanne and her marvelous (new!) collection for the brand than ever. She is gracious, warm and exudes an effortless glamour we can all only hope to achieve. Her furnishings, like the talented designer herself, exude a feminine grace and attention to detail so fine as to go almost unnoticed. But to those with an eye for details (raising hand) there is much to see. I left inspired, enriched and happy. While my list of Kasler items continues to grow, so does my appreciation of how very hard she's worked to arrive at her station.
The recent pandemic of our generation - and entire species -is that we're all looking for the easy score, the quick fix, the fast rise to the top. But without merit and a foundation of excellence it will never have legs. I see a business like Suzanne's - a brand, a business, an empire, really - and I have to pause and appreciate the years of effort she invested in herself and her craft.
My recent move to Dallas has given me time to reflect on my business and my talents. As Suzanne shared details on how she got her start, it became clear I should continue to follow my heart and my true passion. There will always be others looking into your life and telling you what you "should do" or "need to do" - but anytime I've chased someone else's dream and mistaken it for my own I've been unhappy. It's time to distill the idea down to it's purest form and pursue it with fearless fervor.
The great truth of life is that you'll never compromise your way to happiness. The relentless pursuit of your dreams - and really, only YOU know what dreams your heart contains - is what you must focus on. It will drive you to work harder, laugh harder and enjoy the process.
It's a lot to take from a book signing at a designer showroom, but life is funny that way. You never know where or when your truth will rise to the surface.
If you haven't yet purchased a copy, do yourself a favor and snap up Inspired Interiors. And if Suzanne comes to your area for a signing event, RSVP. Especially if it's at a Hickory Chair showroom. Otherwise, you can purchase a signed copy online.
{Fantastic images above of Suzanne's Atlanta office, featured in May 2010's Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine.}

Luxe Tux
Shelter arms, tuxedo backed, Billy Baldwin-esque - whatever you call it, I adore this classic sofa silhouette. This particular beauty is from WS Home. Sources tell the Wilshire sofa is a Mitchell Gold product. Available in 86" and 96", you really can't go wrong with this fantastic anchor for your living room. Fortunately, with Texas-sized rooms it's easy to consider the larger of the sizes. Buyer beware, however: the grand silhouette will seem large in person due to the shelter arm profile and block feet. I do love that it sits low, however. And the 37" depth is a nice compromise. Right between "conversation" depth and "lounge" size.
My only wish.. that this came with an additional chaise. I'd love to see this in sectional style with one side styled as a chaise. To me that would be the ultimate is living room leisure. Perfect for those winter nights cuddling up watching Hulu.
And am I the only one drooling over the citrus accents? Lemon, lime and cypress trees? Italy, here I come.

An Affair to Remember
Unexpected invites to formal affairs send most women into a mild panic. The attire, the hair, the entire ensemble... it can all be a bit overwhelmin when you're caugh off-guard. Thankfully, a post I discovered by lovely Diane Dorrans Saeks, has me eagerly anticipating my next elegant fete. She spoke to fashion designer Karen Caldwell and displayed some of the most glamorous - and surprisingly easy to wear - gowns I'd seen in a long time. These evoke images of days past when movie stars looked the part. A dress that drapes on the body as these do might just require you to have a Cary Grant on your arm.
Lest you think for a moment these would feel the least bit cumbersome to wear, here's an expert from the post at The Style Saloniste:
“I have such fun creating these gowns,” Karen told me. “I travel all over the country to find the best fabrics and then drape them on the body. And the linings and inside are as carefully made and shaped as the gown itself. We also introduce very custom-made finishing touches like special buttonholes and hidden zippers. I often add jeweled buckles, shoulder ornamentation, and vintage jeweled embellishment.”
“I make each gown to order, and each is fitted several times until it is perfect,” noted Karen, who is in negotiations to sell her collections at a Los Angeles fashion store, and a top San Francisco retailer.
I can think of few joys in life as great as looking like a modern day Grace Kelly and feeling comfortable in your own skin. I am certain a dress that fits this well and is made with as much attention to detail will have you feeling - and looking - the belle of the ball. For more information on Karen's craftsmanship and order placement at karencaldwelldesign.com. Be sure to visit Diane's blog for the rest of her wonderful interview with the designer herself.

Venti Girl Gift Guide: The Venti Girl
Shopping for the Venti Girl? Fabulous! Her list is concise and to the point. Pay special attention to the finer details on that handwritten letter she mailed St. Nick. Rushing in at the #1 spot is the Fuji White 2011 Range Rover. Supercharged, of course. You might wonder why she needs a 5.0 liter V8 510 horsepower engine just to get to her neighborhood Starbucks. A girl does need her Venti cup though, and there's no telling what obstacles she'll need to tackle as she emerges from her tony little gated community. That chromed out front grill and fat 20" diamond turned 6-spoke wheels are all business. The business of style, that is. This distinctively chic ride with Arabica Ivory Oxford leather seats, 19-speaker harmon/kardon® surround sound system and rear seat entertainment system are exactly what she needs to get her precious toddler to the Montessori school on time. True, the only tundras she'll be rolling over is the Toyota in front of her in carpool, but life is an adventure and the Venti girl is always, always prepared for the ride.

Apres Vous
There's not an American girl I know who doesn't wish she could live in Paris for a season. Sadly, we've all seen enough movies and traveled enough to know that accommodations are often tiny and options limited when it comes to converting precious dollars to Euros.
But imagine, if you will, that you could afford to celebrate your share of Joie de vivre nestled on the Rue de Bac. Yes you, my domestic friend.
You may need to grab five of your besties to join you, but imagine the fun you'd have in this luxurious flat in the St Germain des Pres. Three baths and a full kitchen (FAR better than the compact Ikea culinary "spot" we enjoyed in our Roman apartment), you too can live like a French woman. Sip espresso at a tiny cafe, walk everywhere you can imagine and maybe,m just maybe, be swept away by the romance of the city - if not a love interest.I've got even better news to share: this glamorous apartment - courtesy of Haven in Paris - is priced best during the month of August. What are you waiting for? Paris is calling you!

Très Beau
Until just this moment, I'd have wagered that I wasn't a fan of French Country kitchens. As my taste has not changed drastically, I'm left to infer that the definition and the way designers are presenting the look has shifted ever so slightly. This Houzz lookbook showcases spaces that make me want to cook, entertain and host like never before.
We have Susan Serra CKD to thank for the photos. She's just returned from France and - as she phrases it - is demonstrating a more "authentic" version of how our French brethren live. These spaces are less fussy than their Americanized predecessors and demonstrate a much more livable way to add a twist of European glamour to your cooking space. Gone are the carefully distressed butcher's blocks and 12-process glazed cabinets that (with careful planning) were crafted to achieve the perfect patina. In their place (if these images are to be cited as an example) are spaces and finishes that exude relaxed sophistication and can't necessarily be pigeonholed as French. They are an welcoming.
What I like from above:
Creamy cabinets. Say what you want about high-gloss, dark cabinets... I'll never own them again. The fingerprints alone will drive a type-A person to the edge of sanity. My next home (and all thereafter) will boast light-hued cabinets like the top three images above. No therapy required ;)
Massive range hood: Nothing says "I love to cook, and if I do say so myself I'm quite good at it" like an oversize hood drawing attention to an equally oversize cooking stainless steal masterpiece. It tells the world that if they'll park their tushes on those bar stools long enough they are bound to taste the deliciousness of your cuisine and enjoy the spirited conversation. I absolutely love to prepare food, cook food and serve food. The kitchen really should be designed as the center of the home, and - in my opinion - should look like a jewel that glistens and beckons.
Exposed shelves: this one is tricky. I love a few cabinets that allow a peek-a-boo effect. "Come... witness my 24 matching glasses and perfectly organized tumblers" is fine. I'm not in favor of having to stare into every stack of mismatched (or matched, for that matter) plates or bowls one owns. It's too much visual information for the eye to absorb. Also... I'm not there to take inventory. Let me assume you own enough plates, but please don't make me count them for you. The second image above strikes the perfect balance: little alcoves for displaying your best finds. It is done without seeming showy or making the room look too busy. Well done.
High ceilings & arches: I'm barely over five feet, but I can't stand to be in rooms without high ceilings. Kitchens especially should boast volume and height. While exposed beams aren't my scene, I love the idea of attention being diverted upwards upon entering a space. Arched windows (and if we're lucky: a set or two of french doors opening to an amazing patio and shimmering pool) and natural light are where it's at for me.
Dramatic island: The stove and range hood aren't the only glistening jewels of the kitchen. The massive island and its dangling chandelier act as sirens becoming both owners and guests to enter the space. A designer who can achieve the perfect balance of drama, function and glamour between these elements is essential. They make up, in my mind, the key to a magazine-worthy culinary experience. Done well, they are works of art. Again, the high ceilings and oodles of natural light come into play. I love that feeling of volume in a room with a well-planned cook/prep area. It brings out my inner Giada!
While I'm still not willing to say I'm French Country, I do indeed love these rooms above. Interestingly, it was Susan herself who asked me to describe my ideal kitchen many months ago. In response, I wrote this, describing in detail my dream kitchen in all her splendor. For truly detailed photos of the jewel of my future home, you must see this image-heavy post.
What about you? What elements of a kitchen make your heart flip and your skillets sizzle?

A Very Special Tribute
Every once in a while I come across a shoe that possesses so many ideal qualities it can only be described as perfection. These (almost completely sold out!) YSL Nude Tribute sandals are my idea of the quintessential shoe. Sexy, stylish and perfectly designed. Avid fans swear by the comfort of the design. Those of us needing the extra height (me, me, me!) love how the platform - and especially this nude shade - elongate the leg to near Gisele proportions. So long as the platform is en vogue, you might be able to call this shoe 'classic' (please, dear Shoe Gods... grant us permission to don the platform for many years to come). At least that's what I tell myself when I'm drooling at it and it's eqally jawdropping price tag.
I'll share a little secret... it's my birthday today (yay!) and I'd rather have this pretty little pair of shoes than any other sweet confection in the world! YSL sales are everywhere, so if you see this beauty (or her equally fabulous black sister), give me a shout! And yes, I'm serious about that. I'm looking everywhere for this baby.
But my real special tribute today is to you, dear readers. That's right, gorgeous... YOU! Thank you for another year of amazing comments, heartfelt emails and growing friendships. Blogging, tweeting and facebooking have enriched my life in ways I never expected, and I look forward to what the future holds for all of us. If you're willing to jump in head first and ride the waves being onlline is a terrific experience. My Venti wish for 2010? To meet as many of my online friends (ahem... that would be you) as possible and deepen my connections with all the rest.
Wouldn't it be great if we could just get together for a bit of shoe shopping and lunch at Neiman's? Maybe start the day with a power yoga class and pedicures to prepare us for the onslaught of strappy designer sandals - that ust happen to be on sale? *sigh* To me, that's a perfect day. Here's to you, stylish friends. Here's to you! Mmmmmmwah!
XOXO,
Franki

Rise to the Occasion
This morning as I took a walk I was thinking about personal standards. What's completely acceptable to one person may seem outrageous to another. In life, we typically stay within the range of what we feel is "acceptable" to us. You stay pretty close to the weight and level of fitness you feel meets your image of yourself... your standards. You date, marry and befriend people you feel are like you or "on your level." Subconsciously you live at the income level or professional level that you think you "deserve" in life. The image in your mind you have of yourself and your life is indeed the life you live. If you don't believe that, you're living in blissful denial.
So... what happens when what you want, isn't what you currently have? You must change your mind. You must alter what you find acceptable. You must raise your standards. That's right... change your mind and you'll change your reality. Stick to it... decide exactly what you want to achieve or experience... determine WHY you need or want that to be your reality... and then figure out what you need to do to get there. But this is no time for autopilot. You have to take consistent action - or at least have constant focus on the goal - to get there.
The good news is this: once you raise your standards the rest is easy. For example, I would never, ever cheat on my spouse. Never have.. never will. It's unacceptable to me. So is a filthy house or an out of shape body. These images just don't fit the image of myself I have in my mind. They are beneath my personal standards. It's just something I don't ever think about because it isn't part of my personal mental image of myself. Those beliefs I hold, those self portraits in my mind cause me on a consistent basis to focus on my husband workout and clean my house. Silly examples.. but you get my point. My standards for myself cause me to do certain things but not others. If I raise my standards I'll improve those situations. Make sense?
The same could be said of any element in life. Are you behaving in a way you don't like? Are you living beneath your personal capabilities or potential? Are you coasting along living a life someone else has mapped out for you? Are you limiting your own potential? This isn't about others around you. This is about you... you as an individual. Your friends may have different standards. Your peers might not be destined for the same greatness you'll achieve. Your job isn't to "fit in" with those around you... your obligation to yourself and to the world is to be the best that YOU can be.
So... are you doing that right now? Are you living up to your own ideal? Are you focused on the right things? Are you working towards your ultimate oals in life? If not... why? Maybe... just maybe it's time for you to raise your standards.
{love the image? Make it yours at Vivre!}

Wish You Were Here
I love their fun description of the boutique hotel:
...Anchored by the towering Mount Vomo, the white sand-ringed isle is non-tidal, ensuring you'll never have to move from your tanning spot. Do roll over from time-to-time, though.
Start your day with a stretch, walking out from either your beach or hilltop villa to views of sparkling ocean and gently swaying palms. Turn to look back at your room. How did such savvy interior design make its way to this tiny island? However it got here, you'll be glad it did.
Over and above inner and outer beauty, Vomo Island also offers a few other luxuries. Like some of the best reef diving in Fiji, an effortlessly hip cocktail bar, a nine-hole par three golf course, a year-round kids club, and the Reef restaurant, showcasing local produce.
As the flame from a torch flickers against the rising shadows, you plan tomorrow's excursion to a neighboring desert island. A vacation from your vacation, if you will.
I'm sorry, did they just say kid's club? Many of the Fijian resorts don't allow tots on the island, so this one stands out as a remote possibility for our "get to see soon" list. That's very good news for the Durbins.
If you haven't been to the newly redesigned Kiwi site before, brace yourself. I assure you it will inspire you to hop on a plane, passport in hand. It's arguably one of the best sites for those of us suffering from wanderlust. The photos are enormous, the information is wonderfully presented and you can explore in a variety of ways. I'm proud to introduce them as the Life in a Venti Cup sponsor site, as they share my passion for travel, luxury and a zest for life. But don't take my word for it... start surfing, baby!

Spring Cleaning
Where did I come across this enchanting vignette? None other than the amazing new Elle Decor site. It's the private home of Choo founder Tamara Mellon. But of course! Here's the scoop on the room.
At the London apartment of Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon, decorator Martyn Lawrence-Bullard mixed a vintage Jansen desk, a 1960s Eames chair upholstered in hot-pink leather, and a Warhol print of Grace Kelly.
While I'm not keen on the floor, I'd be hard pressed to voice that complaint if this were indeed my private workspace. The symmetry of the desk lamps the generous crown molding... it's an amazing space. One worthy of a world-famous shoe designer.
If you think that's great.. take a look at her master bedroom. I die!
