The Future
2013... I'm coming for you. My "word" of the year? Receive. Not take... receive. I believe we often push away opportunities and goodness for myriad reasons. So this year I'm unshackling myself and not just allowing but INVITING all of that goodness and wonder to come into my life. You might consider doing the same.
But don't just wallow and wait.Write is down. Make an afternoon of this task. Buy anew notebook, a special pen. Write every tiny little thing you want, wish and pine for down. Write furiously and feverishly. No judging. No negative self-talk. No bouts of "how could that happen?" may enter the mind. Just write. Allow your deepest desires to pour forth and land on page after page of this notebook. Offer details, scents, scenes, colors... details. Write out the life you wish to live. The person you wish to be and the places you wish to go.
Put it "out there" and don't spend a moment doubting its possibility. I assure you, there is magic in this activity.
Now.... go forth and DO IT. Buy that notebook today and prepare to fully enjoy this excercise. Then... allow yourself the gift of receiving that goodness into your life.

Can I Get An Amen?
I was feeling pretty good about my closet until I spied Yolanda Foster's massive spread. First, her house is jawdropping. This is precisely the kind of home my husband knows I fully expect to call home in the note too distant future. Sweeping views of the Pacific and airy, breezy styling throughout the house. Yolanda designed the floorplan with views in mind, knowing that the "wow" moments are important. It delivers on so many levels.
My dream house of course could only come with a killer closet. Yolanda's does not disappont. In fact, hers is worthy of worship and praise. Inside this white walled private sanctuary exists her own personal Rodeo Drive. Row upon row of pretty heels. Shelves of carefully collected handbags.
It's no surprise that I spy my favorite YSL tributes and limited edition Chanel bags. Floor to ceiling mirrors and incredible lighting give this space (and likely its owner) a heavenly glow. The bolstered, tufted seating may be there for practical purposes like putting on boots. However, in a place this holy it is more likely there to support those who have fainted, feeling overcome by the experience. Lord, have mercy. This dressing room is nirvana.
Did I mention she has a lemon grove and an infinity pool as well? Feel free to torture yourself here.

First you see this, and are duly impressed. And then... (wait for it...)
Blammo! The panoramic view of Los Angeles is even more astonishing than you'd imagine. Smog and all.

Still Loving: Kyle Richards' Closet
Have you seen Bravo's show !0 Things That Make Me Happy? As it turns out, this show itself is now one of the ten things that make me happy. It's beautifully edited, funny, quick and doesn't take itself too seriously. I mean, come on... Kyle Richards and Jonathan Adler. It doesn't get better than this pair to reveal to us the handful of items in their life that make them smile.
But let's focus on Kyle, as I'm obsessed with her easy laugh, her FABULOUS closet, her glossy locks and her fun little family. It seems that Kyle is also a fan of these things, making her even more likable. To say she enjoys her life is an understatement. Her husband is one obvious reason, as are her stunning daughters. But Kyle finds joy in everything from her Chanel-lined closet (obviously) to her drugstore brand shampoo. I kind of love her.
If the above video isn't enough to convince you, watch the show AND watch this house tour below. I know, I know... those of you not drinking the Bravo Kool-Aid (while I take it in with a big fat straw) might snub your nose at the idea of a "Real Housewife" having any true style or personality. Kyle is different. She's hilarious and is completely aware of how ridiculously good her life really is, while still being the kind of person you are positive you'd be BFFs with if of course you lived in Beverly Hills.
Sadly, the show doesn't really appear on the channel's web site yet. But you can use your DVR to find out when it airs again. Trust me. The 15 minutes of Kyle is enough to warrant the effort. Just trust me.

Be Still, My Italian Heart
My husband will be the first to tell you I have an Italian soul. That means a lot coming from a Sicilian. And while I can't find any ancestral proof that we originated from L'Italia, I assure you that there's no place on this planet that resonates with me more than Italy.
The people, the energy, the architecture, the art... everything. And I haven't even tapped the topic of natural beauty. When I have made my millions stateside I assure you' I'll be packing it up and moving to the Amalfi to spend my days in a dream-worthy villa overlooking the sea.
Until that day manifests, I'll torture you and I both with photos and posts of this nature. Why? because it hurts so good!
Today's incredible photos come to us courtesy of Architectural Digest. They taunt and tempt us with the announcement of eight recently opened hotels that are "perfect spots for a couple's getaway." That may be so, but I'm tempted to go all Brangelina and bring my brood to each of these incredible spots.
If pressed to answer which ones I love best I'll declare my love for the 20-room Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa on the Amalfi Coast (good LORD is it magical!) and the apricot-hued Relais Villa Vittoria overlooking Lake Como. (I think it's safe to assume that all of us, married or not, are always up for good Clooney sighting.)
Of course you can never ever go wrong with a St. Regis... especially one in Florence overlooking the Ponte Vecchio. I also feel as though I have unfinished business in Florence because of all the cities we've visited in Italy, this one was one where I felt the most rushed.
Why do I do this to you on a Monday morning? Because it is your responsibility to pursue your passions and your dreams. And mine are of speaking fluent Italian, having a villa or two abroad (you read that right) and traveling the world with my fun little family.
So... I'm off to do what it takes to get us there. How about you? Where do you need to be?

Wanderlusting: Saint James Paris
If a picture is worth 1000 words, this post has already exceeded your attention span. Perhaps knowing that this gem of a boutique hotel is offering a private sale on bookings will rouse you from your slumber.
With interior style served up by Paris's Bambi Sloan, this hôtel particulier surrounded by a privacy wall and garden will astound even the most well-heeled traveler. It manages to be both quirky and utterly posh at the same time (which is a good thing, as I'm not so keen on quirk but an undying slave to posh).
But back to that private garden. Though enjoyable by day, it is a sight best taken in at night. Imagine fine dining under the stars in Paris's 16th arrondissment. Your surroundings (and company) decidedly genteel. You'll feel transported to the countryside yet all the while be surrounded by some of the city's most prestigious real estate.
Book quickly, however. This 48 room château can be depended upon to draw a crowd. You'll want to ensure there's room for you at the inn, lest ye be locked outside the private walls of this remarkable property. Mundane to Marvelous
When I think of successful people in whose footsteps I'd love to follow, those with lifestyle brands are always front of mind. I previously lumped Trina Turk in with successful forces in the fashion industry. Even her line of outdoor fabrics counted as fashion to me, as it seemed a natural extension of her wildly successful prints normally seen on dresses and other items from her apparel line.
But look at her now. Firmly standing with one foot deeply rooted in fashion (including preppy menswear) and the other reaching deeper and deeper into interiors. No longer limited to just pillows, Trina's colorful world now contains candles, stationery, bedding and other household items. What kind, you ask? It might surprise you to discover that she offers such common items such as the dustpan. Leave it to this master of print and pattern to enliven humble household items and elevate them to superstar status. Scissors? Measuring tape? A toolbox? You bet. And they're pretty good looking to boot.
So what about you? What master of their field or mogul do you wish to emulate? Who in your view has blazed a professional trail worthy of admiration?
For me it's those with a brand beneath them. Actual objects with their brand name boldly emblazoned on them. Kelly Wearstler. Trina. Suzanne Kasler. DVF. These are the first names that come to mind, as well as the always on top Barbara Barry. It's about taking the design within and seeing it on shelves and on pretty tables. It's about the realization of a lifelong dream.
And you?

One in Every Color
I try very hard to resist the temptation to purchase multiple colors of the same item. Occasionally, however, a piece is so timeless, so perfect, so impossibly "Franki" that I realize I'd be a fool to pass up the opportunity to invest in as many as I can get my pretty hands upon. Well... I've found something...
The "Fay Two Way Top" from Vanessa Knox absolutely floors me. If it the epitome of sleek styling and relaxed comfort rolled into one. Toss it over jeans and wear it draped around your neck in a gentle cowl. Or for dressier occasions wear it off the shoulder with a sweeping floor-length skirt for an unapologetic sexy look. Imagine it with a long, fabulous necklace or with hair swept up and chandelier earrings? This beauty is begging to go out on the town.
Versatility never looked so glamorous. Normally, even if I find such a magical item, the colors are all just a bit "off" leaving me wanting. Not in this case. Vanessa has masterfully chosen three colors I can't possibly choose between. A mysterious shade called "mouse" that offers irresistible softness, a shade of violet that would look great on any complexion and an impossibly pretty charcoal that will be reached for every time I open my closet.
Know what else I love? Aside from the incredible ruching (oh my!), it has those sleeves that are a touch too long. I absolutely love that detail. And the fabric is a supremely soft blend of wool and modal blend jersey ensuring comfort and impeccable fit. This just has yummy perfection written all over it. *sigh*
I'm in love with this piece. I'm also shamelessly admitting I'll be investing in one of each for my closet. Thank you, Vanessa, for reading my mind and answering my fashion prayer.
See the rest of her incredible collection at VanessaKnox.com.

Today's Port of Call: Rangali Island, Maldives
Glass floored spa, anyone? I thought so. Imagine a retreat so tranquil and relaxing that you never even think to put shoes on your feet. Days lounging staring at the azure Indian Ocean. Nights spent enjoying fine dining by candlelight at the unique Athaa undersea restaurant - one of seven world-class restaurants on the property.
The Maldives are actually a chain of islands in the Indian Ocean, the highest point of which is a scant 8 feet. Imagine staring for hours at sea level, marveling at the wonder of this naturally gorgeous location. This vacation paradise, the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island Hotel, occupies two of those islands, and is connected by an illuminated bridge.
For those of us with little ones, this deluxe tropical retreat does allow children. (My aunt and uncle have visited islands in the topics before that don't allow children.. so be sure to check when making plans.) Not only are they allowed, they have a kids club to keep them engaged and make the trip as memorable for them as possible.
Sublime relaxation and fun for the whole family. If you're looking for heaven on earth disconnected from your many devices and daily responsibilities, this is surely the spot.

My Happy Place: Roma!
It's been an interesting summer filled with twists and turns at every corner. Some pleasant, some not. When I need to focus my mind on positive things I go to my happy place. No, not the upholstered seating at my local Jimmy Choo boutique (although that's nice too). I go to Rome. Roma! My absolute favorite place.
Rome is a city as deeply connected to its past as it is the future. Modern citizens zip around with the latest fashions and smartphones on chic Vespas as they pass ancient ruins lining centuries old cobblestone streets. It is a feast for the senses and my Mecca, if you will.
As an art history addict and an avid photographer, this city offers more than can be consumed in a short period of time. Add to that, fast fashion, well heeled people from all over the globe and grand things (both old and new) around every corner, and you've created the ultimate destination for a girl like me. The Chanel boutique at the base of the Spanish Steps flanking the world famous Berninin fountain sums up why I love this great European destination: the best life has to offer, both old and new. With breathtaking views at every corner.
After our first time in Rome, we found ourselves to enchanted that we booked a return trip not quite 12 months later. That time we lingered in the region for several week, taking in all that Italy had to offer. Even after weeks in a rented Roman apartment, my thirst for the area was not quenched. I eagerly await our return to this great, majestic city.
Fortunately, Tablet hotels wants to award a winner (me, please!) a five night all expenses paid trip to my favorite city and will enjoy the lovely Hotel Capo d'Africa. The historic building was once a school. Now all they teach is the art of leisure and luxury. The rooftop terrace is not to be missed, offering panoramic views of The Colosseum and all that Roma has to offer. The attentive staff will have you forgetting your name and your place or origin. And true to the rest of the city's study in contrasts, accommodations are as modern as one could hope for despite the building's antiquated facade.
Seeking your own Roman Holiday? Enter to win.

Dream Destination: Cap Estel
If you've not yet been to the Cote D'Azur, you absolutely must discover this posh region for yourself. Lush scenery, pristine beaches and some of the world's most wealthy, beautiful people roaming the streets. It is absolute heaven on earth. Add to that the perfectly mild climate of the Mediterranean and the effortless upscale vibe and you may soon be asking yourself why you don't live here year round. But unless you're the Princess of Monaco (let me pause on that note to fantasize... 3...2...1...) you'll need to go home periodically to handle that pesky citizenship issue.
But back to the photos above of this incredible hotel. Cap Estel has been a fixture on the French Riviera since the 1950's. A private hideaway located between Nice and Monte Carlo, the luxury hotel has played host to such celebrities as Catherine Deneuve and the Beatles - not to mention certain royal family members from distant lands that choose not to be mentioned by name. After all... this is a discreet boutique hotel good at keeping private matters private.
My suggestion? Treat yourself for the luxuriously appointed 5000 square foot suite. It comes complete with complimentary champagne, expansive marble floors and features breathtaking views of the Mediterranean - a sight you'll want to behold from your private terrace. Go ahead... live the life of luxury you deserve. And throw a few chips on the table for me while you're there.

Oman, Oman, Oman
There are places you travel to... and then there are destinations that transport you. The Chedi Muscat in Oman is surely the latter. You can certainly unwind here, in one of two incredible pools - one of which is reserved for adults only (a blessing if you've ever sought to find tranquility with children running unattended nearby).
Thanks to the intense heat you may even wish to lounge in a cabana all day enjoying massages and indulge in their premier tennis courts at night, when savvy guests choose to fit in a game by moonlight. Book with a Visa and receive VIP status, best available rate, free room upgrade upon check-in as well as free valet parking (not that you'll need it since you're likely being chauffeured from the airport by a private Mercedes sedan) and a host of other perks.
Yes, the Chedi is calling my name. A little East meets West sounds good right now.

Mellon Drops
Although it's against my brain wiring to want to "be" anyone else, there are certain persons for whom I might bend those rules a bit just to see how it felt to be them for a day. Take Tamara Mellon for a moment. Where to we begin? Legs for miles, a head for business, head of a famed Jimmy Choo empire, a shoe collection every girl dreams of (after all, if it's missing from her shoe wardrobe she simply designs it and - voila! - it appears in the product lineup and invariably in her closet. And then there's the matter of her NYC apartment. I can't stop gawking over it. More importantly, she's powerful, fun woman with a social calendar build to actually put those glamorous things to use.
Fortunately for me, an out of body experience isn't necessary. With a little focus I too can build a Choo Choo train of shoes to line my closet walls. And I can certainly recreate a few elements from her swanky Manhattan pad and equally swanky lifestyle.
First, there's the matter of that light fixture in her living room. Do you see it? I can't take my eyes from it. I love it. I need it. I want it. Right over my desk. Jewelry for the ceiling. It is nothing short of hot.It seems to be a George Kovacs fixture, although it is remarkably similar to this Janice Minor fixture as well. Regardless: it is mine. And that gets me one step closer to lifting some of her swanky style.
And since I'm in "King Midas" mode, loving every gold thing in sight,we might as well head on over to 1stDibs.com and see what else I can find to get me felling Mellon-y. These Maison Jansen nesting tables ought to do it. But since Tamara has a predeliction for wild things, I suspect this ram's head coffee table would be a fron runner in her shopping spree. After all, her enviable desk is made from a brass ram's head base - and it is to die for. But let's focus on the piece de resistance... her iconic white tufted leather sofa. Id you're really going for her look, it's a must. This one from 1stDibs should do nicely.
Add in a dash of apple green, sequins and towering heels and you've got the perfect Mellon Drop cocktail. Stay tuned as we stalk more celebrity homes and choose some of the key elements of style necessary to recreate those look. Ciao, bella!
Photos of Tamara's apartment procured from Accidental Chic, Velvet Moss and Harpers Bazaar.

Limoncelli, Please
For those of you just looking for a vacation spot, consider Positano's Il San Pietro di Positano. Named for the man who built this dreamy establishment, this luxury boutique hotel stands proudly on the rocky cliffs overlooking nearby Capri.
As you lounge by the panoramic pool sipping Limoncello distilled from locally grown Sfusato Amalfitano lemons and dream loftier thoughts under the glistening Mediterranean sun, take a moment to count your blessings.
This tiny jewel of a hotel boasts a Michelin Starred restaurant and an elevator that will take you straight down to the beach below. As far as I can tell, you have no need to venture far beyond the grounds or the nearby beach. It is, after all, a Condé Nast Traveler Gold List winner from 2011 as well as one of Travel + Leisure's 500 World's Best Hotels winner from 2009 & 2011. Enough said.
If you notice the girl smiling broadly behind her oversized Tom Ford glasses, that's me enjoying my sweet, sweet life. See you there!

Globetrotting: Jaipur
Inspired by Nathan's fete this week on Million Dollar Decorators, I ventured over to see what luxe accommodations Jaipur had to offer. The Oberoi Rajvilas was an instant favorite due to the gorgeous architectural details and undeniably serene vibe. Yoga session near an ancient Shiva temple? Don't mind if I do. I suspect the rose-colored sunsets and authentic Indian cuisine would be enough to replenish my energy for a late night swim in a private pool under the stars.
Although once I recover from jet lag I'll be transfering to the more swanky Raj Palace. Just one look at this rooftop tent and I'm sure you'll see why.

Room Service
If you've spent any time in the Greek Isles dotting the Aegean Sea you'll agree that most of the interior design is similar. Breezy sheers, minimalist furnishings and a very white, white, white color palette. Honestly, I get it. The point of the journey is the spectacular view. And one of the thrills of travel abroad is the "sense of place" you get. Rome has its unique architecture, Venice has canals, Barcelona has its Gaudi-rich city vibe. The Greek Isles are recognizable for their whitewashed buildings climbing up steep hills with splashes of cobalt blue roofs peppering the landscape. If you fell from heaven into Santorini you'd likely know it when you opened your eyes. It's part of the charm.
This little jewel of a hotel, however, didn't get the memo on about bleached white sheets and cotton canvas chairs. Oh no. In fact, the Elounda Gulf Villas & Suites in Crete is unabashedly flamboyant in its use of color and opulence. One look at those suites and I am absolutely sold. Ivory bedding, beautifully upholstered furnishings and a rather luxe atmosphere distinguish this from the bulk of other boutique properties I've seen in this region.
We have a special place in our hearts for Greece since we were married there, and we are always looking for new places to discover. There's no way I'm going to Crete without a four night stay here. This is absolutely gorgeous and that unbelievable view will knock your socks off at sunset, let me assure you.
This boutique hotel tops my list for several reasons. In addition to complimentary use of the Elixir Spa (that's right, f-r-e-e), guests in villas enjoy their very own infinity pool with outstanding views of the Mediterranean. Settled. Villa is a must. Opa!

Champagne Taste
Breathtaking, isn't it? It's the Tides, a sexy South Beach hotel begging me to come visit. Can you see why?
The skinny? 45 ocean-view suites, some reaching 2600 square feet of fabulousness. No spa on site, but don't let that stop you from booking an extended stay... the hotel staffs a team of professionals who come to you. Poolside, if necessary. Imagine getting a deep tissue massage as you hear the sound of the surf nearby. Heaven.
I was a little surprised to learn this was a Kelly Wearstler designed hotel. That's actually a compliment to her mastery of design. There's not a hint of trellis or yellow anywhere - two iconic elements some would say is her "go to" design move. But Kelly is indeed a true master when it comes to hospitality. Her spaces beckon and beg you to come, linger, relax.
One look at this impossibly luxe hotel and you absolutely know that a seasoned and skilled interior designer has thought through every detail of the design. Nothing has gone unnnoticed or overlooked. Notice the plush seating, easy conversational seating and the flair for the unexpected. It. Is. Glamorous. Don't you love the tufted back on that outdoor pillow. Good Lord. Take me there. Now.
If gorgeous accommodations and plush surroundings doesn't lure you, how about an army of attentive staff ready to fulfill your every wish? Yes, that's in additon to the "on demand" spa team. This is the hotel staff, to whom no request is too far fetched. Want it? Go ahead, ask. They'll make it happen. Sounds dreamy right about now.
Me? I want to be lazing about in that "almost asleep but blissfully aware" state in a cabanaby the pool, eyes closed, sunglasses on, cool breeze blowing, listening to hypnotic beats and the sound of the ocean in the near distance. Perfection.

Destination Unknown
Too much work is bad for a Venti girl. I'm plotting my escape day and night. The longer I'm forced to delay the satisfaction of a much-needed vacation, the more drastic my desired adventure. Right now I'd like to be here... at this undisclosed location with no one in sight. Doesn't this look amazing?
The ideal place to shut out all distractions and find that still, small voice inside (I suspect it's shouting right now). For all I know this resort is in Santa Barbara, but my mind wants to believe it's in some far-flung exotic locale like Mozambique. Regardless, I want to be there. Now. With my eyes closed and my freshly painted toes in the cool waters of the swimming pool, a solicitous staff indulging my every whim. Yes, I'm due for some first-class spoiling right now. And this is just the spot to do it. Wherever it may be.
To prove my commitment, I've even packed my imaginary suitcase. If you know the spot, do share... we have the opportunity to win a 5-night stay there. I'll even help you pack your suitcase.

Andalusian Dream
Anyone else dying to jet to Spain? I'm embarassed to say we only hit Barcelona and Madrid... not some of the more off-beat locations. This incredible boutique hotel is worlds away from the bustle of the busy cities we visited, not just by distance, but by vibe. The hotel itself is a replica of a Moorish palace, the chapel within is Mudéjar-style, the spa boasts both Turkish and Finnish sauna and it's restaurant boasts fine Spanish cuisine. Stepping back you'll note that Barceló La Bobadilla is modeled after a medieval Arab village complete with sheltered courtyards and olive tree groves. Your role here? Wander, unwind, disconnect with tech and reconnect with life.
Although you're only 30-minutes from the airport I suspect that the lush terrain (the boutique hotel is located amidst almost 900 acres of oak forest) and 1,100 sq. ft. Presidential Suite will be enough to have you ignoring those status updates for at least a few days. More on this from Kiwi Collection.

Sweet Life, Indeed!
Thank you so much, Paloma, for featuring my future home on your blog. This is a composite of the elements I must have in house when I "grow up" (that's entrepreneur-speak for striking billionaire status). Yes, it's in Southern Cali... and you can bet she's one fabulous manse. Take a looksie! For more details, see the posts filed under "things to do before I die" - it spills all the juicy details!
This is an incredible series that Paloma has been running (P, exactly how do you juggle so much at once?) allowing us to peer into the hopes, dreams, plans and aspirations of fellow bloggers. I think it's a wonderful idea and it was a bit more challenging to find photos than I'd imagined. Once you begin plotting your course, however, it's all quite easy.
First rule of success: know what you want. So simple, right? Without a SPECIFIC goal in mind (like this house) you'll never hit your mark. My suggestion? Dream it, find pix of it, write out those goals and purchase the biggest inspiration board you can possibly find - then fill it with images (detailed images) of your "wants" and your "gotta have it or I might just die" elements. Place it over your desk, on your wall or wherever you'll see it every single day. It's not going to do you any favors living behind your closet door. This must invade your space and be in your face daily.
Then look at your to-do list each day... is there anything on there getting you closer to this? Are you aligned with your goals? Check yourself... no point cheating here as you'll only be failing yourself.
For more inspiration, try browsing hooked on houses, Luxist or the Robb Report. Happy plotting!

What It Takes to Succeed
Every day I have conversations with friends, colleagues and strangers who share that they dream of this or want that or hope for xyz. The thing is, do they? I'm not seeing much to show that they have a passion for that dream or possess a plan for attainment.
Hope to lose 60 pounds? That Snackwell cookie dangling from your lips while surfing the web isn't helping. Want to live in a mansion that you own free and clear? I hope you're reading this from your smartphone as you rush off to your next big pitch meeting.
The point is, it takes a plan of action and... wait for it... ACTION to get what you want. Success doesn't just happen. You have to know exactly what you want. Me? I want that fat house, free and clear. I want optimal health & fitness. I want a successful design business. Do you know what I do? I get up early, I work out, I hone my craft and I go for it... each and every day. Working on my plan. Pursuing my dream. Chasing it. Crushing it. It takes motion, movement and some sacrifices.
For me that sacrifice is a little sleep, missed BravoTV etc. My TiVo box is filled with "when I have time I'll see it" shows and to be honest, I am having trouble finding time. When I'm not busy working I'm spending quality time with my daughter and my husband and our friends. They take priority over whatever Kelly and Ramona might be doing this season. (Bethenny, however, is in a league of her own. I make time for her. Watching Bethenny Ever After is like watching myself on a reality show. She's a bit much for other people, but I totally relate to her particular brand of crazy. She's a self-made woman. LOVE. HER.)
Am I there yet? Fortunately, no. I have much to do before I "arrive" where I'm headed. I'm enjoying the process of designing it, building it, dreaming it, working for it. And I'm going to get there. It's just how I'm wired. And the process of working for it and seeing it come to fruition by my own actions is readying me to appreciate my vision of success when I achieve it. But step one is having a specific vision of what you want and be willing to actually change your life to pursue it. Without that you're just drifting along hoping. And "hope" may be a pleasant concept, but it isn't getting you closer to that rockin' body next to the infinity pool overlooking the lapping waves. It isn't building your brand, your company or your bank account.
So... how about it? What is it that will compel you to get out of bed early tomorrow? Hire a trainer. Read a book. Set an alarm clock. Make 10 calls you've been putting off. Do what it takes to shake yourself out of that "someday" state and get moving.

Dream House: Let's Go Outside
Still compiling my notes on the Venti Dream Home I find myself so caught up in the outside of the home that I'm reluctant to veer indoors. That's because I really need a strong relationship between indoors and outdoors in this home. An ebb and flow between the two. Sweeping views from the house, reflections of water sparkling on the ceiling. Multiple sets of arched French doors beckoning you in from the patio. If I sound like a broken record it's because this vision never changes. These images have been sourced from around the web, mainly on swanky SoCal properties.

My Happy Place
Mariah who? Witness the glory that is the private closet of 'Housewife' Lisa Vanderpump. Her home estate at 50 Beverly Park is beyond words. Her closet? Beyond amazing. She's stashing more Chanel into that space than my nearest boutique. Not that she's lacking square footage or assets. Lisa, your dressing space is currently my happy place. As I sit staring at my to-do list and tight schedule i'm dreaming of your baby pink lambskin 2.55, your lime green Birkin (bold choice) and the promise that lies within that shoe department, er... section. Kudos to you, sister. Kudos.

Mental Vaycay
I'm glued to my desk this afternoon, but I'm wishing (deeply, truly fantasizing) I were on Fregate Island in Seychelles enjoying my own secluded island villa. No fantasy vacation is complete (at least not mine) without attentive staff, gourmet cuisine and a private beach. Dream with me here.

Venti Dream Home
Been working on a post for ages... someone requested I compile photos of my dream home. Well... this is no easy feat. Partly because my dream home is likely in Capri. Partly because it requires visualizing the home with ideal architecture with my own spin on the decor. But... to tease you (and to get some of it out of my head) I'm showing you a taste of what's to come. Starting with the outside and the location.
The inside of my future home will matter as much as the interior. The old saying is "location, location, location" and for me that spot is Southern California. I need a view of the Pacific. I don't want to live on the beach, but over it. Pacific Palisades comes to mind.
A fabulous pool with an even sweeter terrace that overlooks the sunset just seems dreamy and necessary. Entertaining should flow easily from indoors to out. The mix of nature and man-made excellence is obvious. Ballustrades, columns and an abundance of white surfaces bathed in the golden glow of that west coast sunshine. My sparking blue pool will be visible from most rooms of the house, as will the bougainvillea blossoms.
I've seen this home and it's view in my mind since I was very young. I'll know it when I walk inside. Arched doorwarys, gleaming floors and gloriously high ceilings.
And yes.. that's Nick & Jessica's old house up top. While the architecture is off for me I love the grandness of the back of the structure. It says "Look at me!, I'm fabulous!" and I sort of dig that. ;)
Although... Lisa Vanderpump's outdoor retreat would be ridiculously perfect. I'd just have to arch those doorwars and windows in my mind. (See more pix of it here.) Thank you, hooked on houses for feeding my addiction. You are the ideal enabler to my real estate stalking tendencies! I am now most certainly in trouble.
More to come on this... stay tuned.

Sweet
Every girl needs a little treat on occasion. I'm already thinking up plans for my birthday in June. Chanel cupcakes, perhaps? While I wouldn't normally be drawn to black baked goods, these are so positively chic that I might just bed the rules. Photos are property of Sugar by Winz, found on Flickr. They did a fantastic job with the detailing on the camilla flower. Even in the closeup you can see the attention to detail and the level of craftsmanship. Impeccable! These next images are via Temeraire, also on Flickr. These lovingly crafted cupcakes are the work of Lorinda Seto of Cakes By Lorinda. See more of her incredible cupcakes in her gallery. You can almost feel the painstaking effort placed into creating each one. Just look at the quilting and seaming on the handbag. Perfection. Coco herself would approve!

White Hot
Good Lord, please give me this kitchen. Is that Fortuny-patterned wallpaper behind the gas range? Yes, please. Give me some of that. Loving the contrast of those sexy black pendant lights as well. So out of place that they fit right in. Only tweak I'd make: not keen on the farm table extension for the barstools (seen better in bottom shot). But really, if you gifted me with this lovely space I'd find it quite difficult to complain. It's hard to form words when your jaw is lying on the floor. It's smokin' hot. Hmm... probably a poor choice of words on my part. But you get the point. Consider this my Easter wish.

Game, Set, Match!
Those following me on twitter know I'm obsessed with tennis. For my birthday I've asked Mr. Venti for private lessons and a club membership. I held a racket a tiny bit in high school but haven't been on a court for even a moment of seriousness in years. Suddenly it's the only thing I want to do. The skirts, the sunshine, focus - it all sounds dreamy. And really, have you ever seen a female tennis player with bad legs? I rest my case. So rather than spend my summer in the gym I plan to hit the courts.
Thanks to the Dallas Stylistas I now know that Lacoste is introducing a collection in collaboration with the dreamy Catherine Malandrino. Hit's just the right note, doesn't it?

Life's Little Treasures
As I surfed blogs this morning, leading here, there, down this rabbit hole and into the next I stumbled upon Kelly Wearstler's My Vibe, My Life. Hello, happiness. This shot say everything you need to know. It's the full integration of her life. Work & play. Glamour & grime (notice the heels and fabulous bracelet, thankyouverymuch). Family & business. It very much epitomizes my life. I hope this brings a bit of cheer to your Saturday and encourages you. Don't be afraid to mix it up. Don't focus on being so compartmentalized. It's your life. And if it's one incredibly over-blended hard-to-explain-to-family-and-friends-exactly-what-you-do kind of life - you're better for it. I do what I love and it enriches me. Dream it, do it. Don't fill up so much time in between wondering how any why and when.
Life is passing, baby, and you better jump in and get a bit messy. Have more fun. Stop limiting yourself with imaginary (yes, imaginary) boundaries and rules and barriers. They are anathema to creativity and true passionate success. LIVE YOUR LIFE the way you dream of living it. If you're waiting for permission from someone it will never happen. Your mission today? Go play! (thank you, DS for the link!)

Beachy Keen
A short while ago I was invited to check out a brand new kind of car. If you've been reading for a while, you know I LOVE cars and have a particular affinity for convertibles. There's something about the idea of cruising down the coast, ragtop down, breeze in your hair and a smile on your face that encapsulates the Venti Life concept. Living every moment to the fullest and really embracing life. I think it's partially because driving a convertible requires full commitment on the part of the owner. A few things are certain: you will have messy, windblown hair. You will garner attention. You will have fun. It's guaranteed. Is it for everyone? Truthfully it's all about timing. At some point in your life I feel everyone must own a convertible. I'd have loved a convertible in high school. Now that I have a little one to incorporate into my daily life it's not the best time (even though I'd love the thrill of tooling around my little neighborhood running to and from the coffee shop and gym). But give me a few years and I'm in. Fully and completely in.
But back to this car. This one was a little different than most. First, it's an SUV convertible. Let that sink in for a moment. That's right. An SUV with the top down. Now I've got your attention. Next shocker, it's a Nissan. And it's as cute as it can be. Two doors, a slightly higher ride than a typical car, leather interior, 20" wheels, GPS, Sirius Radio - the works. In fact, every car comes fully loaded with all the bells and whistles (how's that for fabulous?). No thinking required. Just get in, push the button to open the top (no latches!) and you're off. It is truly a thing of beauty.
The invitation was simple... come down to the Omphoy Resort, drive the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet, enjoy a fabulous lunch prepared by Michelle Bernstein at her oceanview restaurant in this swanky resort hotel (she is positively adorable in person, by the way) and go home. Simple enough. Let me assure you, they didn't need to ask me twice. I was on this like white on rice, baby.
What they didn't tell me is that I'd actually really dig the car. Nor did they tell me I'd be driving it on the stretch of land otherwise known as glorious Palm Beach (oceanfront mansions - oh yeah!). Hello, heaven on earth.
I went. I drove. I drooled. I returned. And now I know I must own a convertible a bit sooner than planned. And really, this one rocks. I also realized need to own some oceanfront property and should probably add in larger sunglasses to that "must get" list. This was Venti Living in every way. Carefree, fabulous, fun.
The entire trip from start to finish was flawless. I can't thank my gracious hosts enough. The room, the treatment, the amazing car, the hospitality - all top quality. The convertible had local residents gawking and commenting. It certainly drew stares and elicited much curiosity. In pretty metallic paints, this car is not for the shy among you, but it is for anyone looking to smile a bit wider and live a bit more joyfully. Two things everyone needs more of in life. Pre-order your smile maker here.

Holy Rizzoli!
Is it just me, or is every book you're reading a Rizzoli production? The list of books I'm reading and dying to read are all Rizzoli publications. They have the corner on the market of the design & fashion titles of the moment and I am more than happy to further their cause.
Last week I was thrilled to add Charlotte Moss Decorates and Parisian Interiors to my bedside table. Before going further I want to offer a thought... it's a shame that books have become mere props lately. Every showroom worth it's client book is loaded with the latest and greatest fashion tomes and design "bibles" du jour. Peek into any photo shoot and you're likely to see the hardback Lanvin or I Married Adventure covers lurking somewhere. I admit I do own both, partly because they became ubiquitous a few years ago. The difference is I've read and devoured their contents. I don't think some design fans have so much as opened them.
Be sure you LIKE the books you own. Don't just choose them for their pretty covers or popularity. For all you know you won't actually like it - and that's okay. It's great to be different and form your own opinions. These are creations by designers or authors dying to inform you and entertain you. You can learn so much from a well written design book. Just take Thomas O'Brien's book American Modern from 2010. Holy smokes! Talk about a private lesson from the grand master of modern American design himself. Buy it. Read it. Think about it. Read it again.
Like Thomas, Charlotte takes it upon herself in this latest book to school the masses. She peppers this book with quick outtakes and thoughtful notes inside chapters. Charlotte is certainly not at risk of being dethroned, and it shows. It takes a confident master to share design secrets. She generously shares her of design approach and how the needs/wants/tastes of her clients come through in her designs. She holds your hand and leads you through some amazing projects. She may be known for her "why not" approach to design... and in this hearty book she seems to be saying "why not" share the inner workings of her thinking with fans.
Verdict: a fan before. An avid fan after reading this. Grab a copy and a comfy chair. Enjoy.
The next book that delighted me was the gorgeous Parisian Interiors. It's actually published by sister company Flammarion, but is distributed by Rizzoli in the US. It left me wishing I could turn back time and re-live my life as a girl in Paris. When the fog lifted from the dreamy photos I realized that it is my duty as a lover of design and fashion to spend time in Paris. The fabuleux homes showcased in this book are those of Paris's well-heeled and most stylish. Soaring ceilings and undeniably French detailing will have you logging on to Expedia at 2am to see what it would take to arrive in Paris by Monday. I always enjoy these aspirational books, but this particular book was so intimately produced that just owning it makes me happy. It's like a private tour of some of Paris's very best homes. A trip of a lifetime hidden between covers.
Verdict: WOW! If you (like EVERY American girl I know) wishes she were young, single, French and living the fabulous life of the Parisian chic, read this at your neighborhood cafe drinking espresso. Prepare to be transported.
The extra bonus here is this: both of these books look fantastic. Only now you'll have the added thrill of having read them and enjoyed them. :)
But back to Rizzoli... indulge your inner bookworm and see the bounty that is the Rizzoli inventory. I guarantee you'll begin creating a wish list of titles. I find myself unable to stop adding to my own list of "must read" titles, including the new Marcel Wanders Interiors volume. Beyond that I'm dying to explore their children's books as well. My little one absolutely loves reading and we want to continue indulging her in her growing love of books.
Happy weekend, everyone... and happy reading.

Yes, please. Add this to the list.
There are a few things on my "do before I die" list. Aside from seeing the Galapagos and seeing the Great Pyramids of Giza at dawn (the travel list is way long), I'd also like a few "girly" and materialistic accomplishments. I'd love to be featured in InStyle sitting amidst my closet of surrounded by my fabulous bags and shoes and dresses. Ahhhhh, yes. But seeing Sheryl Crow standing proudly in her Hollywood Hills home makes me realize a few things. One: I desperately need to live in California (something I've known for years). Two: I want the revitalized AD or Elle Decor to feature my next home.
We just relocated but are leasing for a year or two until we choose "the" house. Moving is exhausting and expensive. This next home? We'll live there for many, many, many years. While we'll own vacation homes, we do not plan to move from this next "super house" for a very long time. And I have to tell you...Sheryl's house is quite special. Although I love clean lines and modern conveniences, I've always had a deep soft spot for the Spanish hacienda style abodes that line the coast of Southern California. Tiles floors, arched doorways, wrought iron railings and a sense of inside marrying outside via terraces, patios and courtyards.
Let's start with that sectional please. No, my, God! It is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Tuxedo arms, tufted back, bench seating. It's the Ginebra sectional from 22 Bond Street. And it is FABULOUS and the embodiment of what I'm currently seeking. (Here's more on that beauty.)
But look at her sparkling pool and sweeping views. Sheryl, how about a live-in stylist? We can dish fashion, interiors and all things girly. I'll keep refining the look of your fabulous space and allow the rooms to evolve as your tastes change.
Back to this amazing property. As much as I adore my home state here, no place in the US compares to the lushness and natural beauty of California. Mr. venti lived in LA and there's probably no way I can drag him back there to live. But he has agreed that it'd be a great place to own a vacation home. Hollywood HIlls, Pacific Palisades... those are a few places that are undeniably gorgeous. Just far enough away from the craziness that is downtown LA to create your own oasis. And when we do... AD. you can bet I'll come calling & asking you to swing by. Oh, and by then I'll be more than ready for InStyle to do that expose on my closet. Maybe Sheryl can even swing by too.

An Affair to Remember
Unexpected invites to formal affairs send most women into a mild panic. The attire, the hair, the entire ensemble... it can all be a bit overwhelmin when you're caugh off-guard. Thankfully, a post I discovered by lovely Diane Dorrans Saeks, has me eagerly anticipating my next elegant fete. She spoke to fashion designer Karen Caldwell and displayed some of the most glamorous - and surprisingly easy to wear - gowns I'd seen in a long time. These evoke images of days past when movie stars looked the part. A dress that drapes on the body as these do might just require you to have a Cary Grant on your arm.
Lest you think for a moment these would feel the least bit cumbersome to wear, here's an expert from the post at The Style Saloniste:
“I have such fun creating these gowns,” Karen told me. “I travel all over the country to find the best fabrics and then drape them on the body. And the linings and inside are as carefully made and shaped as the gown itself. We also introduce very custom-made finishing touches like special buttonholes and hidden zippers. I often add jeweled buckles, shoulder ornamentation, and vintage jeweled embellishment.”
“I make each gown to order, and each is fitted several times until it is perfect,” noted Karen, who is in negotiations to sell her collections at a Los Angeles fashion store, and a top San Francisco retailer.
I can think of few joys in life as great as looking like a modern day Grace Kelly and feeling comfortable in your own skin. I am certain a dress that fits this well and is made with as much attention to detail will have you feeling - and looking - the belle of the ball. For more information on Karen's craftsmanship and order placement at karencaldwelldesign.com. Be sure to visit Diane's blog for the rest of her wonderful interview with the designer herself.
