Weekend Wardrobe
Ahhh, weekends. We live for them, right? Somehow the welcome arrival of Saturday morning is no less grand even when you're your own boss. There's a palpable shift in the air. Life is just a bit more relaxed, more nuanced and less straight & narrow.
Weekday showroom visits and and client meetings have me pulling for fitted jackets, pretty blouses and towering heels. But spring weekends are different. Relaxed glamour is the name of the game. Easy pieces that can easily transition from coffee shop to pretty dining patio.
The key elements? Fitted tops, pretty wedges, roomy totes and the all-important skinny white jean. And of course, fabulous sunglasses and "just enough" gold to keep things polished.
Here's what I'll be wearing this weekend. How about you? What's your spring weekend uni?
J Brand mid-rise skinny white jean // J Crew Cotton Jersey Top // Kennet Jay Lane Gold Coin Necklace // Rochas Glossed Leather Papaya Tote // Mac Jacobs Printed Satin Wedges // Victoria Beckham Aviator Glasses // Emilio Pucci Quartz & Crystal Ring

Feeling Bookish: Fashionable Favorites
There are books... and then there are books. These next three volumes are three of my favorites in the Venti design library.
Rooms to Inspire will knock your designer socks off. It's a comprehensive look at the best work of some of the best designers. It's magical and motivating. Notice it's position on the top of the stack for easy reference when the moment arises. I LOVE this book.
New York Interiors gives you an insider's view of private homes of seven of the city's interesting inhabitants. I will say this, case aside all expectations and let the imagery wash over you. It's a very interesting look inside the way people live, which is always intriguing.
And Dior Couture. What can be said of this amazing book other than, wow. I have many fashion books, but I cherish this one the most. Dior is one of the most prestigious design houses in Paris, and to view their couture works up close in detailed imagery is a priviledge. Even if it is only in a book. A beautiful book, I might add. Warning: you will decide you need to own a Dior gown at some point in your life. Not a bad goal to add to the list.
These are three "must have" books in my library. What are some of your favorites?

The Venti Girl Gift Guide: The Perfect Hostess
There's so much to covet from the Target + Neiman Marcus collaboration. But for me, this pretty little Robert Rodriguez dress is everything. Elegant lace with a four-layer, contrast underlay and scalloped edges. It is festive, feminine and perfect. My advice to you awaiting this limited edition collection of goodies? Shop now before it's all gone like a bottle of bubbly.

The Venti Girl Gift Guide: The Treasure Hunter
The truth of the matter is, what she collects most is compliments. And while acquiring "things" for the sake of acquisition has never been her thing, she does love a carefully chosen piece of jewelry now and then. Wow her with this artistic Gucci gold plated bracelet with oversized brown crystals. We love the ravishing mix of scale and style. She'll wear this season after season and always think of you.

The Venti Girl Gift Guide: The Charmer
It's hard to go wrong with Chanel. It's nearly impossible to disappoint if the object in question is a treasured piece of vintage jewelry. Such is the case with this vintage Chanel charm bracelet available at shopbop right this second. There's only one available, so if you are the giver or the receiver (or quite possibly both!) don't hesitate. This lovely charm bracelet is made in France (but of course!) and offers both whimsy with its classic appeal. An angel, a bottle of No. 5, a classic quilted flap dangle alongside a turtle and a high heel. These gleaming gold "objets" allow the wearer jingle jangle her way through the holidays. That lucky four leaf clover charm will keep her smiling broadly day and night, as she'll have gilded proof that she is indeed a very lucky girl this holiday season.

The Venti Girl Gift Guide: The Good Girl
Ahhh, the good girl. You know the one. Fabulous, talented, sweet as pie and sharp as a razor. She's the fierce friend and the ultimate wife. But don't confuse good with tame. She may have a good head on her shoulders, but that doesn't mean her shoes can't handle a bit of an edge.
What does she pine for during those chilly morning treks from the cart into Starbucks? These black patent-tipped YSL Triboo boots might just warm her pedicured feet as well as her heart. 5.5" of stiletto goodness tamed only by a 1" hidden platform. Parisian chic with just a hint of good girl logic. She'll be impressed and well dressed... and that's a gift worth giving.

East + West Glamour
{photo via WSJ, GABRIELLA CRESPI | The Z desk in Aerin Lauder's dressing room
Simon Upton/The Interior Archive}
Fashion and decor. Two of my absolute favorite things. And I have to admit to having a fascination with the relationship between the two. The causal influences of one upon the other. Do runways trends influence our homes or is it often the other way around? The answer to both is a resounding yes. On the whole, the two are so intertwined that it is almost a waste of time to try to sort of which led the other on trends and styles.
I like to think of personal style as all encompassing. Dressing your home is not so terribly different from adorning your body. If you favor chic mod or tried-and-true traditional in one area you are quite likely to love it in the other. Similarly: you should surround yourself in colors that flatter you - whether it be a gorgeous gown or the color of your walls. Are you a sucker for texture? You will likely find your closet and your home filled with touchable fabrics. Is gold your weakness? I suspect we'll find your bedside tables and your jewelry drawer adorned with gilded accents. The two areas are fascinatingly intermingled and - I suspect - always will be.
Personally, I always lean towards classic lines, elegant accents and timeless styles. I do love my gold, and I want touchably soft textiles around me at all times. Rest assured: you can favor classics and still keep things incredibly fresh. It's all in how you style it.
Just take a look at Aerin Lauder's dressing room. I have always loved this image. What's not to love? Floor to ceiling silk puddling on the ground. The handpainted chinoiserie wallpaper in a flowery, flowing design on the softest aqua ground. A glistening chandelier which is somehow upstaged by this insanely gorgeous brass desk. This room has such an abundance of femininity that it is almost literally dripping from the wall. This is somehow incredibly powerful yet quietly reserved at the same time. It's an interesting mix of bold and delicate, organic and modern. I love it.
To me, if this space were an outfit it would be worn by a woman with absolute confidence. She loves her life, she takes care of herself and she enjoys the very act of dressing herself. I see a flowing gown with Grecian influences and a curve-hugging silhouette. I see opulent gold everywhere: the shoes, the jewels... everywhere. These golden accents are present, but somehow not overdone. I see her wearing a chic chignon and a classic manicure. The updo serves to highlight the handcrafted earrings (that mirror the artisan quality of the wallpaper). The perfect manicure would be showcased so perfectly against the glimmering clutch in her beautiful hands.
But don't be fooled for her overwhelming femininity. It is her strength and not her weakness. This is a woman who accomplishes everything she has ever set out to accomplish. And she isn't finished checking off her life's to-do list. Not even close.
Her posture reflects that lifelong confidence and her skin glows like a woman lit from within. She is luminous, driven and poised. Like this magical room, she has wisdom and inner strength beyond her years and will blaze a gilded trail on her way to her version of "the top."
She, like this room, leads others to wonder how she does it. She is equal parts open book and intriguing mystery. She epitomizes style and grace yet possesses a dynamic energy that won't be contained or easily defined. One thing is certain: she knows what she loves and carefully edits her personal space and her closet to contain only those things that completely delight her. And isn't that what personal style is all about? I think so.

A Day in the Life of DVF via Google Goggles
If you've been dismissive about the potential of Google goggles (or have no idea what I'm referencing), take a look at this video shot by Diane Von Furstenberg herself during Fashion Week. By wearing a sleek pair of spectacles outfitted with a teensy weensy camera she captured the world through her eyes (and the eyes of some notable models). We see her backstage, on the street, at fittings, fine tuning her runways show. Everything. Through her eyes. It might not seem that remarkable to you, but when you see the quality of the video, that opinion might change. What you're seeing is evidence of geekdom + celebrity designer synergy. Expect more of this. And expect it to be awesome.

Falling for Fall
Have you seen it? Your new fall uni? It's slim, trim and powerful. A few key pieces you'll need t pull it off with panache:
Skeek pants that just hit the ankles... a few showstopping jackets, preferably with statement collars (I love this one by Rachel Zoe), platform booties & shooties in glam black. And that's it. Pair with camis and tanks or tops you already own. Toss on a pencil skirt or a blouse on occasion and mix with knee-high boots. You're done.
Simple, sophisticated and entirely versatile.

"F" is for Fabulous
It's official... the F in DVF stands for fabulous. Need proof? Look no furnter than her Spring 2013 collection. Flowing fabrics, sleek (ut not pin straight) hair, colorblocking that is anything but Crayola and more swagger than you can buy. It. Is. Amazing. See it all here.

Regal White
NYFW is showing us all that is right and all that is wrong with fashion. I'm seeing myriad bandage dresses, boleros, shrugs, pleated "Hammer" pants, floor-dragging palazzo pants and plenty of crochet. And don't forget the mesh bandage look. I can't say I love all of those things.
What I do like, however, are the pretty dresses and skirts that seem to draw influence from the wonderful world of tennis. Perfectly pleated (yes somehow slim and tailored) mini skirts paired with long, slim tops. More importantly: they are white. The look is amazing and I have to have it.
The other version of the "white" look is captured perfectly again in Catherine Malandrino's second look above. A slim white embellished sheath topped with a strong swing coat with a faux exotic texture. I could never, ever own too many off-white coats, and I must have this one above. It is perfection.
Her goal for the season was to "capture the majestic, royal quality of Paris for the woman who lives at a fast pace in New York." Athletic influences (tennis!) made their way into her vision and her collection as she somehow made lycra look elegant and worthy of Grace Kelly. No easy feat. Looks are sexy but not revealing (as was the complaint last season), with only the occasional mesh "window" to the skin.
The two looks featured above are - to me - the very best from her Spring collection. They are classic, elegant and I could see Ivanka Trump (or myself) in either one. See all of Catherine Malandrino's looks here, and decide for yourself is she's achieved her goal of Paris royalty caught up in the busy Manhattan lifestyle.

Victoria's Secret
There's a softer side of Victoria Beckham emerging. A sensitive, thoughtful, polite side. It's always been there it's just that the American press (and public) are now seeing it, embracing it and celebrating it. Her beautiful Spring '13 presentation for her eponymous label plays with texture, lingerie influences and - of course - Victoria's incredible eye for detail.
Before the show she shared that she examines each look to ensure "it looks good from every angle." Sounds fundamental enough, but one glance at the #NYFW shows will tell you that not everyone shares her enthusiasm for that quality. She also wants to design only pieces that she'd want to wear herself. Again, there's an obviousness to this statement, but in her case she really does design looks that are completely Victoria Beckham. And we love it.
The look is black and white with pops of a vibrant sunset orange. There's movement, waist-loving silhouettes and just the right amount of sheer versus opaque fabric. Even her pants have a dressmaker's quality.
She once again shows us that beauty isn't boring, and "girly" can indeed be strong. There's an innate power in her delicate pieces. The result is a celebration of femininity that doesn't require ruffles and bows - but doesn't rule them out either. There's a wearable sexiness
here that is completely Victoria Beckham.
I love it. This is easily her most wearable collection and I suspect we'll all be rushing out to invest in our favorite pieces. For me it's that black dress that the designer herself is wearing.
Oh, and for those of you keeping score, David was there too.

Daily Obsession: Nicholas Kirkwood Glittery Platform Sandals
Who would have thought that all that glitter I played with as a little girl would someday live a glamorous life on a pretty little platform heel. Nicholas Kirkwood obviously has such a visionwhen designing these glitter finished strappy sandals. 5.5 inches of sparkling heel and a 1.5" toe support make these easier to walk in than they first appear. Trust: you'll feel like Cinderella at the ball in these fabulous, sparkling shoes. No prince required.

Starring: Jill Milan
Today's featured designer is a lesser known brand called Jill Milan. Here's the thing about these marvelous creations: all of their handbags are free of leather, fur and other animal-derived materials. Instead, Jill Fraser and her partner Milan Lazich focus on designing bags and accessories from natural, luxurious materials such as velvets, ultrasuedes and buttery-soft faux leathers.
Each bag is handcrafted in Italy and is sewn completely by hand. When everything around us is so heavily manufactured, I love the idea of a person stitching together an item that I own. That personal touch itself is a luxury these days.
If you're looking for something new, pretty and handcrafted flip through their lookbook. Me? I love her clutches of course, so when you go to look don't miss the Art Deco version. That chic metallic wonder up above. It's a thing of beauty!

To Maternity and Beyond
Much love to Isabella Oliver for featuring me in their World Style Panel. Several months ago they phoned to ask my for my bumptastic style tips and how I maneuvered the dubious world of maternity style. Honestly (and I mean this in all seriousness), it was the discovery of Isabella Oliver during my first pregnancy that made my second one so easy.
"if you find something that really works buy a few in different colours"
This brand allowed me to dress in the same manner during pregnancy as I did before. Even better? I'm shocked at how many of the pieces still work! The ruching really makes these lifetime pieces rather than short-lived styles. It's also a big bonus that they now offer a 365 Collection. Same amazing jersey, terrific styling and pretty colors for the rest of your life.
"I love the layering camis because you can extend the rest of your wardrobe so easily."
I can't say enough lovely things about the brand, the team behind the brand and the level of quality you can expect with these pieces. Whether you're rocking a bump or not, I assure you this brand is luxury you deserve every day of the year. Go. Explore. Enjoy.

Spring Style: Easy Does It
My summer "uniform" seems to have only two modes: dresses (which I adore for their simplicity and ease) or cropped pants & platforms. Either way the look is effortlessly chic.
As usual, Isabella Oliver has my number. Their seasonal lineup includes striped tops (love!) and a personal favorite: city shorts! I'm not sure why I love these, but I do. They look so terrific with sky high platforms and a pretty top. These are not to be confused with Bermuda shorts. These are super skinny, tapered and are extremely flattering. I prefer mine sans cuff, like the blue pair above.
Lucky you... save 15% on your order at Isabella Oliver and you too can rock this easy warm weather look. I guarantee you'll be hooked!Posted at 11:08 AM in fabulousness, fashion, style, trends | Permalink | Comments (2) | TrackBack (0)

Bold in Black & White: Kate Spade
While I'm not your typical full blown Kate Spade fan, I do love her ability to consistently churn out poppy, happy items. Her latest foray into home goods that serve up Jonathan Adler-worthy "anti-depressive" items is her Florence Broadhurst collection. Be sure to check out the full décor shop to see just how positively cheerful this basic pairing of colors can be when used to display Japanese blossoms. It's downright giddy if you ask me!
My pick? The tableware, of course. And while there is no espresso cup available, I love the idea of adding these "tidbit" plates to serving arsenal for a party.Posted at 08:27 AM in celebrities, cooking, cuisine, designers, fashion, glamorous gifts, great gifts, home accessories, shopping, style | Permalink | Comments (1) | TrackBack (0)

Closet Stalking
Because I (and I'm guessing you as well) can't resist an opportunity to peer into a fabulous closet, may I offer you a glimpse into the master closet of this $6.5MM University Park listing. The home itself is just under 9,000 square feet and is in one of my favorite parts of Dallas.
Yahoo describes the home (and mostly the closet) this way:
I will say, Dallas homes have some of the best closets I've ever seen. We are willing to have smallish yards in order to accommodate our need for generous square footage inside the home and maximum storage space. For more fabulous real estate drool sessions, be sure to peruse one of my favorite sites, Mathews Nichols for some of the city's finer examples of luxury homes. This listing ought to get you started. Note the insanely pretty kitchen and dreamy back patio. This is what living in the South is all about. This house, built in 2007, almost looks like a converted warehouse from outside. Highlights include an underground garage, marble floors and fireplaces, and a geothermal HVAC system. The master bedroom has his and hers baths, along with this enormous closet with high ceilings. The closet has shelving for shoes and cowboy boots, as well as overhead storage for hats and out-of-season clothing.

Pencil Me In
I could never understand the girls who grumbled and griped about Valentine's Day. As they day approached they grew more bitter. Truth is, these were pessimestic people to begin with... and the impending day of romance was just one more excuse to draw attention to their distaste for life in general.
The thing is, romance is a lot like joy and happiness. It's your responsibility - not that of someone else to manifest this in your life. It's something you experience, not something someone does for you. Frankly, some of my best Valentine's Day were those I enjoyed as a single girl. It's a day when you can add a bit more lip gloss, higher heels, have a bit more of a spring in your step, wear pink without irony and - yes, even buy yourself a massive bouquet of your favorite Stargazer lilies.
Being happy and embracing your femininity is your responsibility. Waiting on some white knight to "rescue" you is putting undue responsibility on someone else. Joy and satisfaction comes from within. And how could you be anything less than happy in a deliciously pink pencil skirt?.
So I say, single or not, treat yourself to something fun this holiday. Maybe it's a tube of gorgeous gloss. A pedicure. Maybe it's a handbag you've been coveting. Maybe it's dinner and drinks with the girls... maybe it's just some time out for yoga. Whatever it is, realize that the onus is on you to manifest your own happiness today and every day in life. Not that of Mr. Right.
Frankly, nothing is more appealing to a man than a confident, happy, self-satisfied woman. So be that woman. And in festive pink with a broad smile on your glowing face, you'll be hard to miss and impossible to resist.

Capsule Collection
Celebrity designer Christian Louboutin's highly anticipated capsule collection is now available. Twenty shoes to celebrate twenty years of craftsmanship and artistry. And - it bears mentioning - six celebratory bags.
I am absolutely swooning over the illustrations - far more than the anniversary collection shoes themselves. There's no denying he is a force of nature too powerful to be stopped. Here's a man who knows how to absolutely seduce an audience. Not only would I gladly take a closet filled with his shoes, I'd love a few walls adorned with his illustrations as well. The question is... which is more closely regarded as art? The conceptual sketch or the real thing? You be the judge.
Steal a peek at more of this great artistry on Marie Claire.

Waist Now. Want Not.
If you've been lax on your Reformer classes or skipping those Bar Method sessions... let me warn you that spring is nearly upon us and you'll have nowhere to hide once that calendar hits March. Have you seen the fresh looks I'm seeing? Curve hugging goodness, girls! Platform shoes, to-die-for dresses (in that yummy knee-length) and most importantly: waistlines! This season's looks showcase your best assets and believe me you'll want to be toned and fabulous to rock these looks.
It;s not about being skinny... in fact, I think these looks are all about celebrating a woman's curves. In at the waist and va-va-voom at the hips. Play up your best features and you'll be good to go.
Because I adore them, Isabella Oliver is my (not so) secret source for items that won't be seen all over town. The secret of course is their jersey and their commitment to showcasing rather than hiding the body. Spring 2012 does NOT disappoint. And more importantly... COLOR is here! Pink, blue, orange... I love it. Of course I've only shown you a sliver of the collection, but these were four looks I absolutely must have. Visit their site for the full array of goodies (including those incredible leopard accessories shown in the bottom right look). And seriously... hit those classes. Confidence is the most appealing thing a woman can wear!

The Big Two-Oh
Hard to comprehend that Christian Louboutin has been crafting his masterful creations for two decades. I say this largely because his brand has only been a household name for the better part of this decade. And yet, his creative genius has been focused on fine tuning the craftsmanship of shoes for twenty years. What an anniversary!
If the thought of $1000+ footwear makes you and your financial planner woozy, might I suggest the book that celebrates their design? It's the savvy girl's ticket to fabulously hot footwear while still keeping her Benjamins cool.
If, on the other hand, money is no object... I adore these croc-sequined peep-toe pumps that beguile me with their shmmery luster. By the way, I wear a size 6. ;)
For up to the moment Louboutin news, be sure to follow them on twitter. Always many in-store appearances and festive events happening around the globe.

“Think of it as giving prêt-à- porter the couture treatment."
But all you and I truly care about is this: through ModeWalk you and I can book in-person appointments with Paris designers, gain access to runway show tickets, and access private sales. All without leaving your perch.
Need more reason to sign up for the "members only" site? You and I can each earn a $100 gift card to spend (on any purchase of $200 or more) just by both signing up and delving int the world of Haute Couture.
Per Style.com:
Happy shopping!“Drawing on a rich history of craftsmanship traditions, haute couture epitomizes the peak of fashion as an art form,” the group behind the site, Henri Deshays, Beatrice Pang, and Indre Rockefeller, told Style.com via e-mail. “We would like to use the Internet to enable modern clients from around the world to rediscover the genuine workmanship of this magical universe.”
Modewalk is opening up its virtual doors with a carefully selected roster of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture designers, including Alexis Mabille, On Aura Tout Vu, Alexandre Vauthier, and Christophe Josse, as well as ready-to-wear and accessory items by French designers (Paris is their “launch” city) you might not be familiar with. Prabal + Sephora = Sleek & Cool
Your favorite Sephora cast member will no longer greet you in a staid black ensemble. Expect to see a flash of red and a much more sleek silhouette as envisioned by hotter than hot designer Prabal Gurung.
Before continuing, I must confess... I've been a huge fan of Prabal's since long before he became so popular. In 2010 he made an appearance here in Dallas at the flagship Neiman Marcus and I jumped at the chance to see his collection. He was already on the popularity upswing at that point, but it was one of those moments when you knew you were standing in the presence of greatness before the whole world fully caught on.
Fast forward to today and he - and his fresh modern aesthetic - have taken the fashion world by storm. He has truly become the darling of design, and having examined some of his more elaborate pieces in person, I can assure you that his craftsmanship and attention to detail are a large factor in his success. Add that to his healthy good looks, easy and magnanimous demeanor and his ability to consistently produce imaginative collections and you've described the combo that has taken the fashion world by storm.
Now... on to those updated uniforms for your male or female favorite beauty expert. Here's what BellaSugar has to say:
How this will impact the beauty peddler's bottom line is hard to say. But the updated look will surely energize the staff and the overall appearance of the store. That flash of red - like the heel of a Louboutin - adds much needed zing to the full black outfit. Be sure to see the video of these fetching outfits in person.Designer Prabal Gurung has just previewed the new uniforms he designed for Sephora, and they're a big change from the plain black ensembles you're used to seeing. Now, male "cast members" will have their choice of sleek, black separates with red detailing, and women will be wearing fitted pantsuits with blazers or black trapeze dresses with red accents. The classic palette and sophisticated feel of the new attire is chic, and there's something a little futuristic about the styling, too. All in all, it's a Prabal Gurung collection beauty aficionados are sure to see frequently.

Digging Deeper: Isabella Oliver Winter Sale
I could shop the Isabella Oliver Sale racks forever. Seriously, I don't know what those ladies are up to, but their designs are absolutely impeccable. This lovely outfit above? Culled from their clearance section. That's right... the perfect leather jacket, ideal straight-leg jeans and a chunky necklace that'll make you swoon. Pair that with an of-the-moment (yet timeless) striped tee and a luxe leather bag and you're off with style to spare. I could go anywhere in this outfit with the right shoes. In this case, sky high black heels should do the trick.
(Full disclosure... I have this top and I wear it as often as I can... I adore it!)
One reason you shouldn't browse the sale racks for too long? I assure you your size is at sell-out risk. Take it from a girl who frequents this online store. If you see it, snag it immediately lest it be added to the "one that got away" file in your emotional memory.
Shop now or forever hold your peace.

Louboutin Looms Large over LA
You lucky Angelenos have all the fun. An 80 degree New Year's Day. Balmy, breezy climate. All the celeb watching one can tolerate. And of course, the huge mural of a Louboutin stiletto on Sunset.
I love that this massive (10 stories tall?) image of a stunning heel was created in collaboration with street artist Galo Make Canote on the side of an otherwise unsightly building. You LA dwellers certainly know how to welcome a fellow to town. That's right, the massive billboard was created to properly greet Mr. Louboutin to Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills on February 3. And, of course, to drum up press mentions just like this one. I'd say it's working.
Those of you who are going to the event, be sure to give Chris a big squeeze from me, okay?

Change of A Dress
While you may easily overlook the power potential of a tan dress, I say it is one of those closet essentials that is truly underestimated. You can easily go from meet-the-parents sweet to drop dead diva with just a few quick accessory changes. And if we're confessing here, I must admit to having a closet full of festive prints that can barely be worn more than once. That's the secret power of a solid dress: it out performs any print, since you can transform the way you wear it each and every time.
This lovely sample above? The perfectly polished Sunset Boulevard dress from Shabby Apple. This, dear style lovers, is what happens when khaki meets curves. The fabric has a hint of sheen, a bit of stretch, and is nipped and tucked in all the right places. If you're looking for a versatile piece that will go from day to night and back to day again, this is the number.
My favorite way to wear a piece like this? With sizzle. Lots of it. A bold cuff, towering tall heels and (just to mix it up a bit) a lady-like scarf tied about the neck. Add big sunglasses (is there any other kind?) and voila! You are ready for anything that this fabulous life might throw your way.
So... who, you may be asking is Shabby Apple? They are a "no boys allowed" brand. What do I mean by that? It's all about the dress and the skirt. There are no pants to be found anywhere on their site. Dressing in skirts and dresses is the epitome of femininity if you ask me. There's no mistaking that you see yourself as a woman when you walk into a room in heels and a dress. And certainly not a dress like this. Va-va-voom, baby!

Venti Girl Holiday Gift Guide: The Deserving Diva
Don't let her hard charging attitude towards life (and reaping her due rewards) fool you. This fashion forward friend deserves to keep her feet warm in style as much as you do. Give her the gift of lavish leather and plush rabbit fur booties to keep her pedicured feet protected from the elements. The comfort that only a YSL shoe can deliver will only be outweighed by the savvy style choice you've made. A hidden front platform gives her even more vertical lift, so it's easier for her to look down upon those lacking her sartorial standards. Oh, and did I mention they are on sale?

Venti Girl Holiday Gift Guide: The Posh Princess
As a general rule I frown upon gifts that tell a recipient how to dress or how to decorate their homes. The idea of giving clothing to an adult or offering someone some form of home decor seems very imposing and assuming.
There are a few exceptions, however. If you're giving the gift to a love interest or very, very good friend whose taste (or burning desire) you absolutely know, then by all means forge ahead. In this case, the Vanessa Knox one-shoulder, curve hugging knit top is one such item that your favorite fashionable female would be hard pressed to refuse.
Designed with Grecian styling in a buttery soft jersey rib, this flattering silhouette creates a sexy look for night out glamour. I love it best in violet or mouse, but charcoal offers far more versatility. For added drama she might pair this with an arm full of bangles, tousled hair and skinny black pants. As gift-giver you might consider some dramatic earrings to top off the look. Caution: she (and you) should brace yourselves for compliments from this fabulous wardrobe addition. It's attention you both are likely to enjoy all season long.

Venti Girl Holiday Gift Guide: The Multitasker
As you may know, even though I have a young daughter I am opposed to the concept of "diaper bags" or other child specific bags. Why, you ask? I discovered immediately that (at least for me) it was completely unnecessary. What I should have purchased (and ultimately did) was a large, high quality handbag that could be worn multiple ways. Hand held (for those rare situations where I had a free hand or was able to go out on my own, sans bébé), on the shoulder (for times when I had at least one free hand) and cross-body (arguably the most convenient position to wear a bag in, so long as you can find one with a beautiful strap and just the right "drop").
Knowing what I now know, I'm approaching the arrival of #2 with a far more educated approach. This time I want a stunning bag that can be worn multiple ways - yet still be chic enough to use when I'm bopping around the city sans company of little ones. As it turn out, I am not the kind of mom who carries an entire nursery with me when I venture out. What that little one needs most in her life is you and a handful of diapers. Just add few baby-centric necessities to your bag and go on about your day.
Meet my newest multitasking friend, the Chloé Elsie Large Day Bag in Beige. Like every busy woman I know, she does it all with panache. Boasting a sturdy top handle, she also has a detachable shoulder strap, an internal zip-fastening pocket and is fully lined in a durable olive twill. Because we all need a bit of shimmer in our lives, she has glorious gold hardware accents including an eye-catching turn lock-fastening cutout clasp at the front flap. She'll take you from design appointment to doctor's visit without skipping a beat.
And isn't a versatile element in your wardrobe the best kind of luxury one can ask for? Trust me, this beauty will prove herself to be a high performer in your closet. I know she'll be pulling double duty in mine.

Saturday Night Fever
We have the first of several holiday parties coming up. For every woman I know this brings up the age old question: What to wear? What to wear?
In many ways, it's even easier to dress right for festive winter events. Shimmer, shine, high heels and a touch of luxe fur. It's a foolproof recipe for party perfect good looks. Black is always a safe bet, but with this season's bold blue hues I think you may be drawn to try something new.
If you're in the market for a stunning new item, shop the picks chosen by Vogue.com from Isabella Oliver. All items in featured in the mag are now offered at 25% off. Order today and you'll have them in hand in plenty of time for the weekend.
While everyone else is rushing around looking for a last minute dress you'll be focused on more important matters... like whether to wear your up or down.Posted at 01:02 PM in beauty, fashion, holidays, shopping | Permalink | Comments (2) | TrackBack (0)

Mundane to Marvelous
When I think of successful people in whose footsteps I'd love to follow, those with lifestyle brands are always front of mind. I previously lumped Trina Turk in with successful forces in the fashion industry. Even her line of outdoor fabrics counted as fashion to me, as it seemed a natural extension of her wildly successful prints normally seen on dresses and other items from her apparel line.
But look at her now. Firmly standing with one foot deeply rooted in fashion (including preppy menswear) and the other reaching deeper and deeper into interiors. No longer limited to just pillows, Trina's colorful world now contains candles, stationery, bedding and other household items. What kind, you ask? It might surprise you to discover that she offers such common items such as the dustpan. Leave it to this master of print and pattern to enliven humble household items and elevate them to superstar status. Scissors? Measuring tape? A toolbox? You bet. And they're pretty good looking to boot.
So what about you? What master of their field or mogul do you wish to emulate? Who in your view has blazed a professional trail worthy of admiration?
For me it's those with a brand beneath them. Actual objects with their brand name boldly emblazoned on them. Kelly Wearstler. Trina. Suzanne Kasler. DVF. These are the first names that come to mind, as well as the always on top Barbara Barry. It's about taking the design within and seeing it on shelves and on pretty tables. It's about the realization of a lifelong dream.
And you?

Venti Girl Holiday Gift Guide: The Gold Digger
Lest ye judge too quickly, this gold digger isn't trying to pry a man's black card from his wallet. Sheearns her keep and is more than happy to purchase her own carefully selected baubles and jewels. This Christmas she plans to add a few new trinkets to her already shiny jewelry box. A vintage Chanel charm bracelet fits the bill (and her dainty wrist) nicely.
This gold-plated beauty hails from Chanel's decadent 80's collection and is sure to brighten her mood whenever she hears the logo adorned charms jingling all the way.
