If you've been dismissive about the potential of Google goggles (or have no idea what I'm referencing), take a look at this video shot by Diane Von Furstenberg herself during Fashion Week. By wearing a sleek pair of spectacles outfitted with a teensy weensy camera she captured the world through her eyes (and the eyes of some notable models). We see her backstage, on the street, at fittings, fine tuning her runways show. Everything. Through her eyes. It might not seem that remarkable to you, but when you see the quality of the video, that opinion might change. What you're seeing is evidence of geekdom + celebrity designer synergy. Expect more of this. And expect it to be awesome.

My SpaWeek Rose Ceremony
I've been indulging in and enjoying SpaWeek for several years now. This year's experience at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel in Dallas topped them all. First, it begins with the ultra high luxury location. The Crescent is located just off of McKinney Avenue... a street we Dallas's best can't get enough of these days. Stylish eateries, chic boutiques and trendy hotspots dot this uptown area. If it's happening, it's probably happening on or near McKinney. In fact, much of the success of Uptown can be attributed to the Crescent complex. A 10 acre office-hotel-retail project that (by some estimates) cost as much as $400MM. The hotel itself is the centerpiece of this gorgeous crescent shaped development.
But enough of Dallas history... let's get to the pampering, shall we?!
The spa itself is actually subterranean. That's right. Deep underground. The tony rooftop pool might afford some stunning views, but the spa itself is hidden beneath the hotel. After descending the marble, mirror & brass staircase you discover a zen-like atmosphere of what is known as the Spa at the Crescent.
One glance at the counter and your surroundings and you know you're in for top notch pampering. I was outfitted with an ultra-plush robe, slippers and shown to my private locker. As I awaited my first treatment with Michelle I had my pick of the latest magazines titles, chilled water and fine teas.
Treatment one was an organic hydrating scrub followed by a Turkish bath. I've done many treatments over the years.. none quite like this one. The scrub was mild and gentle, just enough to prep the skin. What followed, however, was the most amazing bath. The private chamber (the exact one in the image above) was like a sanctuary. A curved-ceilinged room complete with a raised bubbling, steamy tub and total and complete privacy that allowed the mind to wander.
Michelle made sure I had cool water and fresh fruit on hand, but for the most part I was left alone to enjoy the jetted tub and nearby chaise for full and total relaxation. As busy mommy of a newborn and a 4 year old I can assure you - this chamber of silence was just what the good doctor ordered! It was sensational. The body unwound, the mind emptied of all clutter and my skinfelt ridiculously smooth after the hour had ended.
Afterwards, I was introduced to Linda... a woman I will forever call the Skin Whisperer. A few moments with my face and she quickly and correctly assesed two things: I consume almond cheese (I'm allergic to the "real" stuff) and I had morning sickness during my pregnancy. Her facial was nothing short of amazing, but it was her deep knowledge of skin and the effects of lifestyle and diet upon the complexion that amazed me. I cannot wait to return to her table so she can continue treating my skin. Her touch was gentle, her knowledge extraordinary and my face was glowing and flawless for days after my appointment. True facial bliss.
If you are ever in Dallas you absolutely must check into the Crescent Hotel for the ultimate overnight experience and book your spa appointments in advance. I saw many happy couples while I was there and groups of girlfriends engaged in deep convos between treatments. These were clearly Crescent regulars and I knew immediately that I would become a regular too.
Please note that both of these treatments are available for only $50 thanks to the miracle of SpaWeek. There's also a paraffin wax pedicure to be had for the same fabulously low price. True luxury at a fraction of the normal cost. Spaweek 2012 runs from April 16-22, so don't delay. Go. Escape. Enjoy. I certainly did.

Passionate Pursuit of Excellence
If you listen closely to leaders, entrepreneurs, moguls and admirable people a common theme will ultimately emerge. Excellence. They demand it from themselves, they expect it from their team and they strive to create it with whatever grand idea, innovation or product they are developing. A simple word but a lifelong challenge: the pursuit of excellence.
Immediately names like Steve Jobs (known for his relentless pursuit of perfection) and Richard Branson (who refuses to take no for an answer) come to mind. People for whom "it's not possible" or "it's good enough" readies them for the challenge.
Also look at Alli Webb the founder of DryBar. Do one thing and do it exceptionally well. That's her (and therefore her brand's) goal. Be the best. Accept nothing less. Offer exceptional quality and service. Raise your standards and be far better than anyone else would ever dream should be expected of you.
These thoughts all came to mind as I attended a Nespresso event at one of Dallas's hottest eateries, PrivateSocial. Once in, I had the opportunity to sit with Padma Lakshmi of Top Chef fame. She shared with me why she partnered with the brand and what makes a famous model/author/host/mother/businesswoman choose to add coffee spokesperson to her long list of titles. Her answer was fairly straightforward: excellence.
Listening to her speak about coffee was eye opening. The vocabulary she used and the passion she had for the topic was something I'd only seen among oenophiles. She spoke of varietals and picking the berries (yes, berries... for in face what we call a coffee bean is actually one half of the seed within the delicate berry) at the precise right moment from the right location and roasting them to the unique roasting level that is best for them. Using terms like "science" and "respect" she shared stories on how far and wide Nespresso (a European phenomenon) goes to source the ultimate product. Perfection is the goal.
You'd think it would end there... but as the event went on we had the opportunity to talk to many people from the product team. It was pretty clear that although ceramic glasses and shiny proprietary equipment surrounded us, we we were hardly talking about coffee any longer. They were preaching a different gospel. How to conceive the best idea, execute it flawlessly and deliver it to the right people at the right time. Do one thing and do it exceptionally well. Better than your fans, your competitors, your supporters or anyone else expects from you.
Isn't this the formula for success for every business and - frankly - every life? Be the very best at what you do. Pursue excellence with every fiber of your being. The result in this case was incredible coffee in a very unique delivery system with some of the prettiest packaging and equipment I've seen. But how does this apply to your life? Are you striving to be the very best at what you do in life? In excellence your goal?
If not, take this moment to shift your focus. Decide to be unreasonably great at your craft, your business, your job, your life.
How did I get this from fabulous food and incredible coffee? Because it was clear that excellence was the goal of the PR team, the brand leaders, Padma, Master Chef Tiffany Derry and all of those involved. Passion for excellence is impossible to hide and always shines through.
Pursue excellence and don't settle for anything less in your life. Ever.
I'd like to graciously thank the Nespresso team for the invitation and the incredible products they shared with us. Thank you for a reminder to be truly great at even the finer details of my craft. True greatness is all in the details after all.Posted at 07:45 AM in celebrities, dallas, design, entertaining, events, glamorous gifts, success, technology, the venti challenge | Permalink | Comments (2) | TrackBack (0)

Louboutin Looms Large over LA
You lucky Angelenos have all the fun. An 80 degree New Year's Day. Balmy, breezy climate. All the celeb watching one can tolerate. And of course, the huge mural of a Louboutin stiletto on Sunset.
I love that this massive (10 stories tall?) image of a stunning heel was created in collaboration with street artist Galo Make Canote on the side of an otherwise unsightly building. You LA dwellers certainly know how to welcome a fellow to town. That's right, the massive billboard was created to properly greet Mr. Louboutin to Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills on February 3. And, of course, to drum up press mentions just like this one. I'd say it's working.
Those of you who are going to the event, be sure to give Chris a big squeeze from me, okay?

This Little StyleSpotter Went To Market
That's right... it's almost time (again) for High Point market. I am astonished that I'm already mapping out accommodations and showroom visits... but such is the nature of the biz.
If you're stumped on how to begin or are a pro seeking insider scoop, I have both to offer. For newbies... check out the High Point Market Authority's site and this starter PDF. For you seasoned pros, don't miss the insider's guide to market I created with Pearson's VP of design for last fall's market. It's a can't miss guide to the best Market has to offer that most visitors never discover.
Either way... see you there!Posted at 10:48 AM in celebrities, design, designers, events, furniture, home accessories, interior design | Permalink | Comments (2) | TrackBack (0)

Best of Black Friday
Don't sweat it Just get it. This is my shopping motto today and always. Having worked retail early in life, I don't go near a mall the day after Christmas. Isn't that what online shopping is all about, anyway? I can shop in my jammies propped up against my headboard while others brave the cold and the crowds.
For those of you like me, here's a roundup of some of the more notable online style deals to be had. Enjoy!Posted at 07:29 AM in events, fashion, great gifts, shopping, style | Permalink | Comments (1) | TrackBack (0)

Thomasville Furniture: High Point Market Showroom Tour
Another stop on the High Point Market Blogger tour was Thomasville. It's interesting to note that this brand is available at the retail level, meaning anyone can walk into a Thomasville showroom and make a purchase - no designer required. But for a commercially available line, Thomasville really steps it up when it comes to offering customizable pieces and boasting incredibly chic styles.
Another thing that sets this brand apart is their commitment to offering accessories for the home. Most brands establish a niche in furniture OR accessories... but Thomasville's product lineup says: come here for everything. Including, it should be noted, a really glamorous selection of bedding ensembles and lamps.
This is quite savvy on their part, as normally it's impossible to complete a room while shopping under the roof of a single brand. Rather than visit multiple showrooms and shop for weeks (or give up mid-hunt) you can find hardware, throws, coverlets, mirrors, wall art... you name it - all at a single showroom. By collaborating with designer brands the resulting look is high-end and has the air of a luxury interior designer's fingerprint. This extra merchandise gives customers the freedom to make a space uniquely their own (especially with those hardware options!) and provide for themselves a finished look that fully custom at a price they enjoy.
Here's a great roundup of new introductions for October Market, including two featured collections: Cassara and Spellbound. The latter being especially Venti Approved! See this stunning hall chest for proof of the power of a little glamour in your home.
Special thanks to Elaine Williamson again for being my eyes and ears on this showroom tour. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the showroom and the pieces (she couldn't say enough great things about the bedding!) I also want to note that my company does do work with Thomasville's parent company as well as some of its sister brands... but we do not work specifically for/with Thomasville. Opinions and appreciation all my own :)

Drexel Heritage: High Point Market Showroom Tour
As you may recall, my great friend Elaine Williamson stood in for me on the High Point Market blogger tour. She and some of my favorite online (and offline) friends were shown around in style by brand representatives and the High Point Market Authority themselves. An insider's look at new collections, the customization process and emerging market trends.
Her biggest surprise was her own response to Drexel Heritage. Elaine wasn't as familiar with the brand and was impressed by the depth of their customization options, the frames available throughout the collections and the very high end appeal of this brand.
{Full disclosure: my company does some professional work with Drexel's parent company Furniture Brands, as well as a few of this company's sister brands... but that doesn't alter the fact that I am a genuine fan of Drexel's seriously hot pieces.}
The frames, the fabric selection, the wide array of custom finishes, the designer trim... this is no ordinary brand. Drexel offers tradition with a massive dose of glamour thrown in just for the sheer fun of it.
Throw in glamorous pieces like this Cloe Lamp Table (which I desperately need in my living room right now) and I'm a fan for life. One of the creative geniuses behind the success of this brand is Denise Alala. If you've not been in the showroom to meet this gorgeous force of nature, you're missing out. It's clear she has design genius in her veins. A few Markets back I had the pleasure of walking solo with her through the showroom and was so impressed not only with her style outlook, but her ability to render that vision flawlessly into the finished product.
Much like Pearson's Jennifer McConnell, Denise has seems to have a peephole into the future of design. She's a step or two ahead of the rest of the crowd, and if you're not following her cues you're going to miss out and wonder what just happened without you.
For a tiny sample of this force at work, tune into the Drexel blog to see what she and Carl drum up next.

So... What is New and What Is Next?
For those of you who weren't at the NYDC event a few weeks back, we wanted to follow up with Pearson's impossibly chic creative director Jennifer McConnell and ask the question on everyone's mind: What is new and what is next?
For a quick background, you have to realize that Jennifer's role with Pearson requires her to travel extensively in search of new techniques, new textiles, new ideas, etc. She is always, always a few steps ahead of trend and has an amazing eye for style. While global travel keeps her informed and curious, it's clear she possesses an innate flair for design. If Jennifer says it's en vogue, you can take that to the bank.
Best of all, she's bubbly, energetic and one of the most fun people I've had the pleasure to work with. Pearson has a true dynamo on their hands with her!
She took time to follow up and answer my questions about What's New, What's Next and shared more about the event. Read on to see what she has to say about the home fashion forecast and the talented company she enjoyed that evening.
Jennifer, we must know... what is new in interiors and furnishings that was evident at WNWN?
"We are definitely seeing a return to the 70’s. Whether it is 70’s glam or 70’s boho chic its taking front and center just like it is in fashion. Sparkly gold mixed with mirror feels like studio 54 disco glamour. Ikats and batiks feel much more earth mother sensible."
Were there signs of what we can expect next? Emerging trends?
"More color! Everyone is finally tired of the greys and ivories. Touches of gold everywhere from furniture to bathroom fixtures, and color is taking front and center – not just “pops” anymore."
You walked the Hickory Chair + Pearson showroom with Michelle from Lonny and the talented duo that is Tilton Fenwick... what elements stood out to them the most?
"I brought from High Point a quick sneak preview of some of our more exciting exclusive textiles for Fall 2011. Lots of color mixed with hand crafted looks; ikats, tie dyes, batiks. Oranges, fuchsias, raspberries and indigos. They generated some of the most excitement for the event – definitely the most photographs taken. Michelle loved one tie dye stripe so much she took it with her for hopefully the upcoming issue of Lonny! Keep your eyes peeled for it!"
"They also loved the number of mirrored pieces mixed with the menswear looks. Michelle commented that they keep the herringbone and wool upholstery from feeling too masculine."
"And they both adore the 9651 shagreen bunching table!"
The event was a huge success by all accounts. We heard you were selling pieces directly off the floor to keep up with demand! Which item was the runaway hit for the evening? Or were there several?
"Everyone loved the small occasional pieces! They are so perfect for NYC living when space is limited so pieces have to wear multiple hats. In particular I saw one 9645 silver leafed table and one 9651 shagreen bunching table be carried out by very happy shoppers!"
How did the crowd respond to your newest additions, like the new chaise sectional or the swanky new sofa?
"The chaise sectional combination is just perfect for NYC living. A number of people commented on how decadent it is to own a sectional in NYC because it takes up so much space. However, they loved this version because both pieces are very small scale, and both can ride up in a passenger elevator (no freight elevator needed!) For such a small footprint, it seats quite a few, and of course looks stylish while doing it!"
Anything you spotted in another showroom or heard from the attendees that was unexpected or downright fabulous?
"There were so many amazing events going on – Sub Zero had celebrity chefs cooking gourmet meals in their showroom. Neirmann Weeks had a silver leafing demonstration happening – if you ever get the chance to see a demo like that make the time! It is an amazing dying craft! Laura Kirar was supporting her gorgeous new collection for Arteriors. There was so much going on, that it was too much to see in one night!"
Thank you so much for sharing, Jennifer. Looking forward to the next soiree and more importantly, excited to get a preview of those new colorful textiles coming at us this season. Color is back!

There's always party somewhere at High Point Market. This year the fete to attend is the star studded Rizzoli book signing. Sunday from 4 - 5:30 PM in the Courtyard at Market Square you will be elbow to elbow with some of the brightest stars and biggest names in the business.
The Trendsetter Book Event will offer for sale the fresh titles from top designers, who will also be on hand to sign the books. Are you ready for this list? Martyn Lawrence Bullard, signing his tome Live Love & Decorate. The impossibly glamorous Mary McDonald penning your name in her book The Allure of Style. Suzanne Kasler (a dear personal and professional favorite of mine) with her fabulous book Inspired Interiors. Designer Bobby McAlpine signing his book The Home Within Us: Romantic Houses, Evocative Rooms. Star Michael Connors with his volume Caribbean Houses, The Splendor of Cuba, and British West Indies Style. And last but not least, Florence de Dampierre with the terrific title Walls: The Best of Decorative Treatments, and French Chic.
Put away your corporate AMEX, the event is free and open to all who attend High Point Market. Insider tip: the fab designers will only be on hand for an hour to sign books, so be sure to get there early.
Bring a tote to lug away all of those terrific hardback books. These are more than just pretty coffee table books to decorate a space, they are incredible published works you'll want to devour when you have a free moment. They are indeed seriously delicious.
For more scheduled events, be sure to visit the High Point Market Authority's comprehensive site.

Venti Cup's Joss & Main Curator's Collection Starts Today!
Today is the day! This morning my Joss & Main Curator's Collection will go live. The theme is Livable Glamour.
To me, true luxury is surrounding yourself with a home that is as luxurious as it is inviting. The key to achieving this lifestyle? Careful selection of those things you add to your home. Taking a bit more time to inspect upholstery, invest in quality furnishings, add accessories that have significance to you. It is a curated look. Think: hand-tufted wool rugs, unexpected objets d′art, comfortable seating in plush fabrics, soothing color palettes. I love mixing textures and periods. Decorating in this way creates warmth and interest in every room of your home. It is as sophisticated as it is welcoming, and that is true luxury.
As in so many areas, I've taken a cue from our European counterparts. Livable Glamour is not a "fresh off the showroom floor" look. Each item in your home (and your closet for that matter) should be something you absolutely love. Focus on touchable textures, interesting details and quality pieces that are stylish but not trendy... all of these combine to create an air of effortlessly chic style. This is how you build a great wardrobe AND style a fabulous home.
Today's Joss & Main Curator's Collection will showcase some of my favorite pieces sourced from the incredible Joss & Main catalog. Each item has been personally selected by me and chosen for it's ability to exude effortless elegance. Choose one, choose many... but remember to passionately pursue those pieces you love! Effortless glamour comes from loving your surroundings and expressing your personal style through your choices.
Happy shopping, everyone! Après vous!

Scheduled: Monday Relaxation
My life is presently dominated by my big "to do" list. So much so that I'm now scheduling in a bit of relaxation amidst the work. A massage and pedicure on a Monday morning, you say? You bet. I've been working weekends, mornings, nights and in my sleep (what little sleep there is). So you bet your pretty pedicured feet I've book a Monday morning "me" session.
Admittedly, this one is in the name of blogging and business... so you might say I'm still being productive. In this case, I'm visiting a spa in Dallas for SpaWeek. A Better Body, The Spa at II Creeks has invited me to sample their 75 Minute Soothing Hot Stone Pedicure following a 50 Min II Creeks Signature Massage. I said yes to both faster than I could place my standing Starbucks order.
If you haven't SpaWeek'd before, you are really missing out. Your areas top salons and day spas offer new or signature services at ridiculously low prices. Why? To get you to try them out and spread the word.
My mother rightly pointed out that American women tend to think of spa services as extras and indulgences. If you've traveled abroad, you've no doubt noticed that in other countries both women and men regularly partake in body treatments, facials and other restoring services. It's called caring for yourself, and we should certainly incorporate more self-care into our over-scheduled lives. But for most of us, it is seen as an extra and a bit self serving. May I ask.... what's wrong with doing something nice for yourself? Especially if the result is renewed energy, restored beauty and a better frame of mind? We could learn a little from our European friends.
So today I've booked a self imposed "ringer off & email doesn't exist" portion of my morning. The little one is at school. The husband is at the office. The timing couldn't be better, I just wrapped up a massive project and very much deserve this chill session. I'll even be able to really relax, as there are no pending due dates for others, only things I've manufactured on my own for my to-do list. And yes, I'll be sure to share the details on this spa once I wake up from my zen coma.
Do yourself a favor: explore the spas and salons in your area that are participating in Spa Week. You'll discover guilt free prices for fantastic services.

Fashion Camp for style-minded teens. What does it entail? Sweet
Every girl needs a little treat on occasion. I'm already thinking up plans for my birthday in June. Chanel cupcakes, perhaps? While I wouldn't normally be drawn to black baked goods, these are so positively chic that I might just bed the rules. Photos are property of Sugar by Winz, found on Flickr. They did a fantastic job with the detailing on the camilla flower. Even in the closeup you can see the attention to detail and the level of craftsmanship. Impeccable! These next images are via Temeraire, also on Flickr. These lovingly crafted cupcakes are the work of Lorinda Seto of Cakes By Lorinda. See more of her incredible cupcakes in her gallery. You can almost feel the painstaking effort placed into creating each one. Just look at the quilting and seaming on the handbag. Perfection. Coco herself would approve!

Show Me Your Dallas, Shay Geyer
Ask a native Dallas girl to show you her city, and you'll need to brace yourself for a whirlwind of an adventure. Shay Geyer, daughter of remarkable designer & entrepreneur Beth Rafferty, took on the challenge with glee. We began our busy day at IBB Design, the family-owned showroom where she spends her days. If you're wondering, the "B" in IBB stands for Beth. Shay is second-generation Dallas design royalty and it shows in everything she does.
The showroom itself offers two floors of some of the best brands in the furniture business. Shay and I have had the pleasure of meeting a few times in High Point. We're both guilty of spending too much time in the Hickory Chair showroom. That appreciation for fine quality is reflected in the pieces on display at her business. Room upon room of beautifully styled vignettes featuring Henredon, Maitland-Smith, Century, Barclay Butera, Thomas O'Brien & Suzanne Kasler for Hickory Chair and other greats humble even the most seasoned ASID member.
IBB itself is a full service interior design business. The showroom serves as both retail showroom and to-the-trade resource, making it a must-see for anyone with a penchant for design. I've been in a few times myself, but never seem to canvas the entire property. When you go, don't miss the glistening John Richard room. {Insider tip: Don't see what you're looking for? Ask for a peek inside the attached warehouse and prepare to have your breath taken away.}
Next, we ventured to the Design District for a visit to one of her favorite art galleries, Samuel Lynne Galleries. Shay expressed such fondness for the works of JD Miller, a "reflectionist" (his words) who is the great mind behind a method he refers to as acrylic sculpting. Rather than flat, framed works, JD's pieces have a true depth to them that makes them almost leap from the canvas. We were blessed to discover he was in that morning, and he was gracious enough to share his methodology and his inspiration.
As lovely as his work was (and it is glorious) it was the artist's personality and warmth that made me an instant fan. he believes that we are all responsible for producing positivity and good energy. His works are his way of giving out what he seeks to return. Just listening to him speak was enough to make me want to rush home and begin expressing my own good works.
For a real treat, be sure to attend a live in-studio event on May 21. JD will demonstrate his signature 3-D oil technique from 6-9 that evening. It's an experience you surely will not want to miss. RSVP here.
After seeing so much color and beauty, it was going to be difficult for our next stop to impress. But leave it to a Dallas event to blow away any predetermined expectations. Just after the clock struck noon we were elbow to elbow with fellow fashionistas at Stephanie Anne in Highland Park Village. If any city honors it's own, it's Dallas. Stephanie Anne is a multi-talented designer with a remarkable eye for style. She transformed her home accessory showroom into a DJ-spinning, champagne serving charity fête. We were in another world the moment we walked in the door.
The Super 10 Event served two purposes: it introduced her new line of glamorous jewelry and supported 10 remarkable charities. As attendees sipped cocktails and chatted, we were treated to a fashion show of her colorful and flowy jersey dresses and her impressively hand-crafted gold jewelry. Think: Egyptian royalty and you're almost there. Her pieces reminded me of those found on Pharoahs in ancient Egypt. This is no ordinary collection, and Stephanie Anne (by coincidence, a St. Louis native) is no ordinary entrepreneur. These 24K gold-dipped pieces are sure to be a hit.
As a fellow entrepreneur, I can't wait to see what she launches next. It's fun to see someone turn their stylish vision into reality. Swing by the glamorous boutique to see the pieces in person. Or... take note that Neiman Marcus will also be carrying her fine, fabulous pieces. Stephanie, I'll be seeing you again soon!
Like two modern-day Cinderellas, Shay and I soon realized that 1:30 was upon us and we had to return to reality. Translation: in the middle of this fun day of play and projects we have little ones, both of whom were due to be picked up from school in minutes. Our moments in crystal slippers were fading quickly and it was time to jump back to reality. Time to roll!
Looking back, I'm not sure how Shay does it all. Later that night she headed back out for an industry party honoring the launch of D Home Magazine's new blog. She's a very busy girl and I appreciated her taking time out to show me her version of the city. She's deeply woven into the fabric of this city's busy social scene and effortlessly glides from one role to the next.
Shay, thank you for such a fun outing. I look forward to our next adventure, as I know you still have dozens of fun locations up your sleeve! Hopefully we'll have a bit more time!

Skin Deep
Last night I previewed a new treatment being offered at U Medical Boutique & Spa. Started by mother daughter team Carol & Desiree Robinson, it is in a tony little strand of shops and boutiques in Plano.
My appointment involved a scalpel, a steady hand and very gentle strokes over much of the face. No, not surgery... a facial. Tte SkinCeuticals Micropeel uses a process is called Dermaplaning. Sounds a bit sci-fi at first, but the results speak for themselves. The process was painless (thank goodness!) and followed up by a light chemical peel and then (ready for this?) very fast application of dry ice to the face. This last step closes pores, eliminates any redness and calms the skin. All in a blissful 50-minute treatment.
I left my appointment with no redness, no pain and without that telltale blotchy face. I can't always say that about monthly facials. Caycee, my gifted and gorgeous aesthetician, shared that most clients come in for a series and that it's ideal for my common skin complaints. I can see why. I woke up to buttery smooth skin.
I will admit, the description itself sounds crazy (a surgical blade and cryogenic treatment?), but it was very gentle and serene. We have our colorists put tin foil in our hair. We pay for waxing in areas better left unmentioned. We do some brave things in the name of beauty, and this was far from extreme.
Will I do it again? Yes. Soon. And I'm thrilled to have found my spa home in Dallas. Fingers crossed this will be on promotion during SpaWeek next month.

Warm & Fuzzy
It's super windy outside this morning, but I'm off to get ready for a warehouse furniture sale @ibbdesigns. While I drink my coffee I'm drooling of these truly gorg photos at C.R. Laine Furniture. How hot is that color combo? Seriously? I die!
Okay... coffee sipped, work done... time for me to finish getting ready & bolt out the door with my lip gloss. Have a great weekend, everyone! Wish me luck shopping!

An Affair to Remember
Unexpected invites to formal affairs send most women into a mild panic. The attire, the hair, the entire ensemble... it can all be a bit overwhelmin when you're caugh off-guard. Thankfully, a post I discovered by lovely Diane Dorrans Saeks, has me eagerly anticipating my next elegant fete. She spoke to fashion designer Karen Caldwell and displayed some of the most glamorous - and surprisingly easy to wear - gowns I'd seen in a long time. These evoke images of days past when movie stars looked the part. A dress that drapes on the body as these do might just require you to have a Cary Grant on your arm.
Lest you think for a moment these would feel the least bit cumbersome to wear, here's an expert from the post at The Style Saloniste:
“I have such fun creating these gowns,” Karen told me. “I travel all over the country to find the best fabrics and then drape them on the body. And the linings and inside are as carefully made and shaped as the gown itself. We also introduce very custom-made finishing touches like special buttonholes and hidden zippers. I often add jeweled buckles, shoulder ornamentation, and vintage jeweled embellishment.”
“I make each gown to order, and each is fitted several times until it is perfect,” noted Karen, who is in negotiations to sell her collections at a Los Angeles fashion store, and a top San Francisco retailer.
I can think of few joys in life as great as looking like a modern day Grace Kelly and feeling comfortable in your own skin. I am certain a dress that fits this well and is made with as much attention to detail will have you feeling - and looking - the belle of the ball. For more information on Karen's craftsmanship and order placement at karencaldwelldesign.com. Be sure to visit Diane's blog for the rest of her wonderful interview with the designer herself.

Lavish: Head South this Winter
Mark your calendars: December 10-12th lifestyle bloggers will converge upon Atlanta for a lifestyle luxury unconference. Finally... a brainstorming, networking event for those of us that don't feel that BlogWorld or Blogher is our gathering "home." The "un"conference is for us. Who are we? We love beautiful things. We love posh surroundings. We love ruffled trenches. We love culinary artistry. We love fabulous shoes and beautiful decor. We blog about it. We dwell upon it. We embrace it. We are bloggers, readers, advertisers, pr-types like YOU. Lavish is for us.
I'll be speaking on a few style panels with some noteworthy figures: Kelley L. Moore of For the Love of Design, Sondra Lewis of Chic Chocolate, Monica Barnett of Blueprint for Style, Dawn Del Russo of Bella Dawn, Roshini Cope of Glamazini, LaToicha Givens of Luxe Tips and Kalyn Johnson of Possess your Style. We will discuss the ins and outs of writing about fashion, life and style.
If you've ever wanted to visit Georgia's sweetest peach, this is the time to go. We'll be staying at the Mansion on Peachtree (a swanky Rosewood hotel) and this won't be similar to any other event you've attended. The brains (and beauty) behnd the operation is Shameeka Ayers, whom you no doubt know as the Broke Socialite. Shameeka runs in circles with some of the web's most notable figures. She saw a niche to be filled for bloggers like myself.
Her idea? To host an intimate gathering in a chic location and keep attendance to a minimum. That's right... we don't want thousands of attendees. We want small gatherings in intimate spaces where we can discuss our work, our experience and our questions with one another. Think of a weekend with close friends where you can truly discuss the details of your experience and learn from one another.
If you want to sit alongside some of your favorite tweeters, facebookers and bloggers and chat face to face about lifestyle blogging: this is the event for you. Oh... and did I mention that Rue Magazine is the official online media sponsor of the event? That's right. So pack your Goyard bags and join us. We'd love to meet you.

A Very Special Tribute
Every once in a while I come across a shoe that possesses so many ideal qualities it can only be described as perfection. These (almost completely sold out!) YSL Nude Tribute sandals are my idea of the quintessential shoe. Sexy, stylish and perfectly designed. Avid fans swear by the comfort of the design. Those of us needing the extra height (me, me, me!) love how the platform - and especially this nude shade - elongate the leg to near Gisele proportions. So long as the platform is en vogue, you might be able to call this shoe 'classic' (please, dear Shoe Gods... grant us permission to don the platform for many years to come). At least that's what I tell myself when I'm drooling at it and it's eqally jawdropping price tag.
I'll share a little secret... it's my birthday today (yay!) and I'd rather have this pretty little pair of shoes than any other sweet confection in the world! YSL sales are everywhere, so if you see this beauty (or her equally fabulous black sister), give me a shout! And yes, I'm serious about that. I'm looking everywhere for this baby.
But my real special tribute today is to you, dear readers. That's right, gorgeous... YOU! Thank you for another year of amazing comments, heartfelt emails and growing friendships. Blogging, tweeting and facebooking have enriched my life in ways I never expected, and I look forward to what the future holds for all of us. If you're willing to jump in head first and ride the waves being onlline is a terrific experience. My Venti wish for 2010? To meet as many of my online friends (ahem... that would be you) as possible and deepen my connections with all the rest.
Wouldn't it be great if we could just get together for a bit of shoe shopping and lunch at Neiman's? Maybe start the day with a power yoga class and pedicures to prepare us for the onslaught of strappy designer sandals - that ust happen to be on sale? *sigh* To me, that's a perfect day. Here's to you, stylish friends. Here's to you! Mmmmmmwah!
XOXO,
Franki

Cythia Rowley Rolls into Town
Hey Dallasites... busy this weekend? Take a few moments to swing by Highland Park Village to see the lovely Cynthia Rowley. She'll be rolling into town quite literally, via her "shop on wheels" event. Expect to see her frill frocks and festive footwear in her outfitted mobile boutique parked next to Vince (across from Starbucks). What to expect? The complete spring 2010 RTW collection from head to toe, even eyewear.
Why do you care? Because the weather is going to be absolutley perfect this weekend. Also - Cynthia dresses women like the feminine creatures they ought to be. Her florals are not overwhelming, her heels are always graceful and her hemlines are short enough to show off those legs. I can't say I'm head over heels for her S/S 2010 line, but there are a few very pretty pieces and she's definitely offering some pretty colors. I love the iris-hued number above paired with nude heels and a simple clutch. Just one look at the model's legs and I'm looking online to buy the Poetic Waxing kit.
Even if Mrs. Rowley isn't there herself you can paw through the goods, grab yourself a Frappuccino and pop into Vince, Chanel and D. Porthault to console yourself. Any way you slice it, you'll have a lovely afternoon.
Starts today and goes through Sunday. Get details via her blog.Hapy shopping, ladies!

They should call it ooh, la, la
There's a reason some things cost more to produce. Frette linens may be many things, low-priced isn't one of them. But I'll let you in on a secret... you can snap up a set of fresh linens for yourselves this coming week courtesy of Rue La La. That's right. You + a set of supple, soft, luxurious linens = many nights of restful sleep. In my opinion, you can't put a price on something as precious as beauty sleep. Sale starts this week on the 25th.
High thread count sateen not your thing? DDF skincare goes on sale tomorrow morning, your opportunity to get a bargain on European Yachting on the SeaDream happens Tuesday, Michael Kors sales happen Wednesday... let's just say it's a full week. If you need an invite, here you go! Happy shopping! XOXO

Reese's Pieces
Her looks were opulent and rich with a hint of Chanel-esque textures
and prints thrown in for good measure. And though I feel inspired to
add a few Tracy Reese pieces to my wardrobe, I also feel that I could
achieve the foundation of these looks with pieces I already own. I'll
just need a fresh pair of booties, a cashmere snood and a fluffy scarf.
While it is true Tracy didn't put on a mind-blowing avant garde fashion show, she definitely presented looks perfect for the way modern fashionistas actually dress. We layer. We want our shape to show and underneath it all we want comfort.
