Drexel Heritage: High Point Market Showroom Tour
As you may recall, my great friend Elaine Williamson stood in for me on the High Point Market blogger tour. She and some of my favorite online (and offline) friends were shown around in style by brand representatives and the High Point Market Authority themselves. An insider's look at new collections, the customization process and emerging market trends.
Her biggest surprise was her own response to Drexel Heritage. Elaine wasn't as familiar with the brand and was impressed by the depth of their customization options, the frames available throughout the collections and the very high end appeal of this brand.
{Full disclosure: my company does some professional work with Drexel's parent company Furniture Brands, as well as a few of this company's sister brands... but that doesn't alter the fact that I am a genuine fan of Drexel's seriously hot pieces.}
The frames, the fabric selection, the wide array of custom finishes, the designer trim... this is no ordinary brand. Drexel offers tradition with a massive dose of glamour thrown in just for the sheer fun of it.
Throw in glamorous pieces like this Cloe Lamp Table (which I desperately need in my living room right now) and I'm a fan for life. One of the creative geniuses behind the success of this brand is Denise Alala. If you've not been in the showroom to meet this gorgeous force of nature, you're missing out. It's clear she has design genius in her veins. A few Markets back I had the pleasure of walking solo with her through the showroom and was so impressed not only with her style outlook, but her ability to render that vision flawlessly into the finished product.
Much like Pearson's Jennifer McConnell, Denise has seems to have a peephole into the future of design. She's a step or two ahead of the rest of the crowd, and if you're not following her cues you're going to miss out and wonder what just happened without you.
For a tiny sample of this force at work, tune into the Drexel blog to see what she and Carl drum up next.

The Wonderful World of Wearstler
Now that we K-Dub fans have caught our collective breath I can showcase some of my favorite pieces from her brand new site. Yes, Kelly Wearstler, polarizing design celebrity, is now selling her goods directly to consumers through her own site. I have to say... go Kelly! I love that she's doing this. More importantly, she is offering accessories and an impressive little collection of RTW as well. Most silhouettes are easy, breezy, flowy shapes. Great if you have Wearstler's stilt-like legs. For petite princesses like myself, this fitted black mini Chevron Dress is the key to sophistication. Add a conversation starting bracelet and snag a piece of jewelry for your home and - viola! - you've entered the wonderful world of Wearstler. Let it be known that I approve.

Boutique of the Week: Plum Pretty Sugar
Of all the worldly advancements, often the best life improvements are the most basic. A new category of apparel has appeared on the market. Loungerie. It straddles the line between lingerie and loungewear and couldn't be more perfect for today's modern girl. Pretty patterns, breathable fabrics, delicate silhouettes that offer coverage and comfort.
One of the masters of this craft is Plum Pretty Sugar. Like the pretty florals themselves, the brand is based in sunny California. To me, this is evident in the lightness and airiness of the designs. Whisper-weight cottons and easy silhouettes. It's exactly what any girl wants to wear when she's at home relaxing but still wants to feel pretty and feminine.
I've been following Nina on twitter for ages. She has a fabulous blog and an eye for beautiful things. Those inspirations are easy to find in her collections. There's a category for brides and bridesmaids (genius, as you need something pretty to wear while getting ready for the big event), a line of linens for the home (wise use of those impossibly soft fabrics) and a beautiful selection of headbands. It's all just so well thought out.
So when you find yourself unwinding this weekend, consider your choice of outfit. Are you maximizing the opportunity to feel pretty and beautiful while still enjoying the comforts of home? Why not slip into something a little more fabulous. I assure you... you're worth it.

Venti Cup's Joss & Main Curator's Collection Starts Today!
Today is the day! This morning my Joss & Main Curator's Collection will go live. The theme is Livable Glamour.
To me, true luxury is surrounding yourself with a home that is as luxurious as it is inviting. The key to achieving this lifestyle? Careful selection of those things you add to your home. Taking a bit more time to inspect upholstery, invest in quality furnishings, add accessories that have significance to you. It is a curated look. Think: hand-tufted wool rugs, unexpected objets d′art, comfortable seating in plush fabrics, soothing color palettes. I love mixing textures and periods. Decorating in this way creates warmth and interest in every room of your home. It is as sophisticated as it is welcoming, and that is true luxury.
As in so many areas, I've taken a cue from our European counterparts. Livable Glamour is not a "fresh off the showroom floor" look. Each item in your home (and your closet for that matter) should be something you absolutely love. Focus on touchable textures, interesting details and quality pieces that are stylish but not trendy... all of these combine to create an air of effortlessly chic style. This is how you build a great wardrobe AND style a fabulous home.
Today's Joss & Main Curator's Collection will showcase some of my favorite pieces sourced from the incredible Joss & Main catalog. Each item has been personally selected by me and chosen for it's ability to exude effortless elegance. Choose one, choose many... but remember to passionately pursue those pieces you love! Effortless glamour comes from loving your surroundings and expressing your personal style through your choices.
Happy shopping, everyone! Après vous!

Show Me Your Dallas
I've really got to get better about tooting my own horn. So here we go. Toot too, beep beep as they say in disco songs!
Remember the Show Me Your Dallas feature I began a few months back? The point was to connect with these amazing girls I'd met online before moving to Dallas last winter. Each of them were given the opportunity to show me "their" version of this incredible city and play the role of stylish tour guide. Let me tell you, these girls did NOT disappoint!
It became such an affair that the Dallas Morning News got word of my adventures in coolfinding. A few calls, a few emails, an interview and photoshoot later... voila. Front (and back!) page of the Life & Style section on the 4th of July weekend issue of the paper. Full color. How's that for a welcome to town? Since the online article is only available to subscribers, you'll need to download the PDF here.
Why did I do it? There's nothing like exploring a city through the eyes of local experts and fellow design-minded girls. And trust me, the ones I chose were amazing at highlighting amazing hidden resources and fabulous boutiques.
Who was this chic posse? Interior designer extraordinaire Emily Johnston, award-winning designer Elaine Williamson, IBB showroom co-owner and designer Shay Geyer, talented designer Kyle Knight, graphic designer and social media vixen Sandra Evans, local Dallas interior design celebrity Beth Dotolo were first on the schedule.
Honestly, everyone was amazing, gracious and incredibly generous with their time and attention. I couldn't have chosen a better team to go on playdates with. The best part? Loved them all and genuinely feel it was th ebest way to kickstart offline friendships. Dallas is a city of fabulius people, but these girls are all at the top of their game and it shows.
There are still more posts to come, as it takes a while to recreate the whirlwind tours of the city on the blog. But stay tuned, as I have three very talented girls left to feature: The talented and stylish Haley Schultheis of Nonsense & Senibility, product designer Erin of Global Views, and interior designer Abbe Fenimore of Studio Ten 25. We completed our outings ages ago but I've been too caught up with client work to post them. Girls... stay tuned ;)
In the meantime, read all of the adventures here.
Last but not least, my heartfelt thanks go out to features writer Jamie Knodel from the DMN. Jamie, you found my blog, saw the feature as newsworthy and really made this a terrific experience from start to finish. I can't thank you enough, Jamie, for authoring the piece so generously and for spending so much of your company's precious colored ink on me and my girls. I am delighted to call you a new friend as well. Thank you.

Dream Destination: Cap Estel
If you've not yet been to the Cote D'Azur, you absolutely must discover this posh region for yourself. Lush scenery, pristine beaches and some of the world's most wealthy, beautiful people roaming the streets. It is absolute heaven on earth. Add to that the perfectly mild climate of the Mediterranean and the effortless upscale vibe and you may soon be asking yourself why you don't live here year round. But unless you're the Princess of Monaco (let me pause on that note to fantasize... 3...2...1...) you'll need to go home periodically to handle that pesky citizenship issue.
But back to the photos above of this incredible hotel. Cap Estel has been a fixture on the French Riviera since the 1950's. A private hideaway located between Nice and Monte Carlo, the luxury hotel has played host to such celebrities as Catherine Deneuve and the Beatles - not to mention certain royal family members from distant lands that choose not to be mentioned by name. After all... this is a discreet boutique hotel good at keeping private matters private.
My suggestion? Treat yourself for the luxuriously appointed 5000 square foot suite. It comes complete with complimentary champagne, expansive marble floors and features breathtaking views of the Mediterranean - a sight you'll want to behold from your private terrace. Go ahead... live the life of luxury you deserve. And throw a few chips on the table for me while you're there.

Oman, Oman, Oman
There are places you travel to... and then there are destinations that transport you. The Chedi Muscat in Oman is surely the latter. You can certainly unwind here, in one of two incredible pools - one of which is reserved for adults only (a blessing if you've ever sought to find tranquility with children running unattended nearby).
Thanks to the intense heat you may even wish to lounge in a cabana all day enjoying massages and indulge in their premier tennis courts at night, when savvy guests choose to fit in a game by moonlight. Book with a Visa and receive VIP status, best available rate, free room upgrade upon check-in as well as free valet parking (not that you'll need it since you're likely being chauffeured from the airport by a private Mercedes sedan) and a host of other perks.
Yes, the Chedi is calling my name. A little East meets West sounds good right now.

Limoncelli, Please
For those of you just looking for a vacation spot, consider Positano's Il San Pietro di Positano. Named for the man who built this dreamy establishment, this luxury boutique hotel stands proudly on the rocky cliffs overlooking nearby Capri.
As you lounge by the panoramic pool sipping Limoncello distilled from locally grown Sfusato Amalfitano lemons and dream loftier thoughts under the glistening Mediterranean sun, take a moment to count your blessings.
This tiny jewel of a hotel boasts a Michelin Starred restaurant and an elevator that will take you straight down to the beach below. As far as I can tell, you have no need to venture far beyond the grounds or the nearby beach. It is, after all, a Condé Nast Traveler Gold List winner from 2011 as well as one of Travel + Leisure's 500 World's Best Hotels winner from 2009 & 2011. Enough said.
If you notice the girl smiling broadly behind her oversized Tom Ford glasses, that's me enjoying my sweet, sweet life. See you there!

Boutique of the Week: à Bientôt
Occasionally a girlfriend is generous enough to spill her most sacred fashion resources. Paloma of La Dolce Vita and High Gloss fame was kind enough to reveal that à bientôt is a favorite Houston boutique. A quick Google search and I discovered she was onto something magical. Owners Betty & Christina travel the globe in search of fantastic finds. As you might imagine, their acquisitions are as varied as the cities they visit. But clearly these two share a passion for fine things and are willing to share those goodies with lucky Houstonians.
I shouldn't have been surprised that Paloma was clued in to such a terrific little shop. After all, she's built a career on being on top of all things fabulous. Turns out, the DMN is hip to the shop as well. They have it listed as one of the top places to visit when visiting the hot southern city. While I look for an excuse to visit in person (and there are many) I'll enjoy shopping online and keeping up on their adventures through the blog. (Tip: check back often as their merchandises changes frequently!)
Thank you, Paloma, for so generously sharing one of Houston's (as well as your own) great style secrets. Seeing as "à bientôt" means "see you soon" I'll take it as a sign that there's a trip to your hometown in my near future!

Turkish Delight
Last week I visited a friend's home and was delighted to see we shared a passion for Trina Turk's magnificent indoor/outdoor fabrics. They are colorful, exotic and bold - but incredibly tasteful. It's not an easy balance to achieve but the talented Mrs. Turk has this mastered. The patio in question was outfitted with my very favorite of Trina's color palettes: the royal blue & teal combo. I favor this combo because it absolutely begs you to dip your toes in the pool. It epitomizes that refreshing summer vibe and really sets the tone for unwinding with friends. It was such a pleasure to see that my very stylish friend had indeed created an outdoor oasis that was as tranquil as it was thrilling.
With all of the new textiles on the market beauty and durability are no longer mutually exclusive. You can have both. You should have both. And savvy moms are making maximum use of these all-weather fabrics indoors as much as out. Little ones with dirty fingers? Husband with a predilection for red wine? These incredible fabrics can handle every challenge you can dish out. Between Trina's colorful options and my beloved Sunbrella velvets I'm in designer heaven - and you should be too.
More to come on those sexy velvets later. In the meantime, get your lemonade ready... summer is coming!

Show Me Your Dallas, Beth Dotolo
Continuing my journey deeper into the Dallas design community, I spent Friday morning with the lovely Beth Dotolo of Hello, Splendor. Instantly I was struck by her relaxed, easygoing vibe. But don't mistake her ease for lack of interest. Like most of my designer friends, she's lazer focused, well-informed and manages to balance her left-brain/right-brain traits with aplomb. Love a girl who can dish shoes as easily as she can dole out info on the legalities of being licensed to design in Texas.
Our first stop was the Garden Cafe tucked away in the East Dallas neighborhood of Junius Heights. Had it not been for my Google map, I'd have passed this sleepy little street. Once inside I knew with certainty that the lack of fanfare is by design: it's a special place the locals hope to keep to themselves. Beth and I dined on a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the very garden that provided so many of the ingredients on our plates. Over our delicious meal we touched on the current state of design blogs, the merits of the NCIDQ and the differences of various Dallas neighbrohoods. I've no idea how long we stayed after our plates were cleared, but it was great to share a bite with another designer with so many of the same thoughts and opinions.
It's easy to see why D Magazine ranks her as one of the city's top designers. She and fellow registered designer Carolina Gentry run Pulp Design. Together they carefully craft incredibly stylish spaces. Rooms that have an inviting quality much like Beth's personality. They ask you to sit back, relax and live in the moment. What a terrific quality in our rush-rush/go-go world.
Her special blend of powerful-creative-force-meets-new-mom came full circle as we stepped next door to the adorable children's boutique, Little Bean. This incredible little boutique is a wonder in an of itself. Owner Christine Visneau expresses her stylish point of view with thoughtfully chosen items, personally sewn apparel (yes, a special line of Little Bean apparel resides amidst other impossibly hip brands) and imaginative local artwork on the walls. It is as much children's boutique as it is art gallery.
The true beauty of the shop, however is on the wall behind the register. Just behind Christine's counter is a massive collection of kid-created art that would melt even the coldest of hearts. Seriously, there's enough Crayola and construction paper back there to start up a craft store. Cutest thing ever. I'm not sure if they were drawn by her two children or were given to her by the children of loyal customers, but it added even more warmth to this already special little boutique. I'll have to ask Christine the story on my next stop into the shop.
Speaking of next time... looking forward to getting together again with my new designer friend at the Cafe (what can we say, the food is insanely good and we both love breakfast. Win-win!) so we can introduce our little ones to one another. Something tells me that morning won't be quite as chill as this one, but I suspect we'll find quite a bit to amuse us.
Stay tuned for more in the series! Next week: Elaine Williamson & Tonia of Chic Modern Vintage.
(By the way, Beth - you are totally right. Kim Catrall should absolutely play you in a movie!)

Show Me Your Dallas, Emily Johnston (Part II)
{Part II of my excursion with Emily Johnston of EJ Interiors}
One we'd finished stargazing at Leslie Taylor, Emily and I dug deeper into her hidden Dallas. This is where her knowledge and passion really came through. Emily's secret source of design goodies require you to hunt. First stop: White Elephand Antiques. I'd heard of it, but I'm not normally the antiquing kind of girl. That might be changing....
A good friend of hers owns Gypsy Soul Interiors. As we entered White Elephant and turner right, there was this amazing boot (technically two booths) that blew you away. Overscale paintings, fantastic chairs, a Greek key table (seriously, someone needs to go purchase that table TODAY) and a nicely chosen group of other items rounded out the scene. This wasn't at all like my previous forays into antiquing. These were carefully curated items dying to be snatched up and seen in a new light. Yes, the chairs could use reupholstering, and maybe the table would look even better with a mirrored top (Emily's brilliant idea) but it really gave me an insight into her design ethos. This is no off the rack designer, clearly she's willing to shop smart and find the perfect item for each and every project. No wonder her portfolio is littered with glowing reviews - she earns those accolades.
Next we popped over to Found, a shop my hairdresser had clued me into (hi, Daniel!) a week or so ago. It's one of a pair that are cleverly named Lost and Found. Isn't that cute? We only made it into Found on Wednesday - but my wallet is grateful. Found is truly a wondrous place. They are trade friendly (meaning professional designers are offered a discount with proper credentials) and sure to be a regular stop on my trips into the district. I had a particularly difficult time leaving behind a Neiman Marcus pop-up book.
We did finally make it back to Again & Again - which was such a lovely place that I'll save it for another post. Emily - thank you so much for such a marvelous morning and for your incredible peek at insider's Dallas. I knew there were hidden gems around the corner and you certainly proved me right. What a treasure trove of design goodness.
Stay tuned for more of this journey of Dallas through the eyes of local designers and aficionados (or perhaps I ought to call them aficionadas?). There's much more to come, as I spent yesterday morning on a laughter filled excursion with one of Dallas's top 10 interior designers Beth Dotolo. Stay tuned for more!

Show Me Your Dallas
Since the move last fall, I've been slowly but surely discovering incredible areas throughout my new city. Truth be told, the "good stuff" isn't usually in a guidebook. Smart locals save that for themselves. Who can blame them? But I consider myself a local now, or at least a girl who plans to make Dallas her permanent home. So I want to know it all. I want to see it all. I want to experience it all.
Rather than spend a year or two in search of all that secret coolness throughout the Big D, I've decided to enlist the assistance of local experts. These are bloggers, designers and fun girls you already know and love. I've asked them to do one simple thing, "Show me your Dallas." This can be a tucked away fashion boutique, a legendary landmark or a simple taco stand down the street. It can be anything they wish.
It's my quest to discover more of the uniquely local places that are authentically "insider" Dallas. After all, this is their version of this great city and I want to empower them with the freedom to enlighten me. The ultimate goal is to get together, enjoy a little girl bonding and showcase some of the city's hidden gems along the way.
Stay tuned!

Stamp of Approval
Warning: you're going to want to make a purchase after you read this post. These sophisticated rubber stamps by Holly's Houses have a very Charlotte Moss vibe to them. Holly Anne Rolfe is the daughter of an architect and has been drawing images of homes for as long as she can recall. Holly studied illustration at London's Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design and shows no sign of stopping in her quest to express herself through pen and ink. If you've been looking for the perfect gift for someone special in your life, this is surely the source.
Imagine adding chic little thank you notes brandishing this stamp on aged parchment tethered to your gifts with tiny little bits of twine. It's an incredible finishing touch. It shows you care and you've planned ahead. The stamped image is indeed a little ink drawing of your home. Can you imagine how great this is as a gift? I can already think of at least to people n my life who need this.
But rather than just limit it to your own home, there's no reason it couldn't be the personalized image you use on your wedding invitations and correspondence. Imagine a little drawing of the church in which you'll say your vows. Or possibly the front door of your new home or the combo mailbox/flower bed of your summer retreat. Your little one's treehouse or maybe even an illustration of your new puppy's adorable dog house. Regardless, you need this. It's just too posh to let an idea this charming go unused. Learn more about Holly on her blog.

Magnifique!
Oh, how I long to spend the summer in Paris! I die!!!! And yet, the realities of life are what they are.. busy schedules, long flights, busy lives...and a virtual vacation to the City of Lights will just have to suffice.
Enter Shabby Apple's timeless Oh la la collection are doing wonderful things to my very vivid imagination. In my mind I'm already enjoying the frolic of the city and basking in the sun beneath the shadow of the Arc de Triomphe. Ahh, to dream!
The dresses are classic cool and (shockingly) affordable. You'll fit right in with your fellow Parisiennes as you walk along the Champs-Élysées in any of these beauties. They are the epitome of feminine sophistication and timeless cool. Ultil I can fit in a proper vacation to Paris, these French inspired looks will tide me over. Oui oui, my lovelies!

Sleeping Beauty
In light of all this, today's surprise sleep-in was a welcome surprise. I felt rested, recharged and a wee bit indulgent for slumbering on the first day of the week. And this being early spring, I arose to the sound of birds chirping and the beauty of light streaming in through my bedroom blinds. When I describe it like that, there is a bit of a fairly tale spin to it.
So imagine my delight when I discovered these beautiful boudoir images at Savio Firmino. The Florence-based design company was established in 1941 near the Santo Spirito district. If you've been to this area beyond the River Arno, you recognize it as a bustling are filled with specialized artisans and busy workshops. Standing on cobblestone streets peering through the filmy, paned glass windows at the artists lost in their work it is easy to lose your place in time. It's as though you're flung back into the Renaissance. It's a magical feeling.
As generations pass, that craftsmanship and skill is often lost. Such is not the case with Savio Formino's company. Named after the comany's founder, the company (now located in Scandicci) is internationally recognized as a brand leader in interior design. His passion and attention to detail is still visible today in their beautiful collections of bed and bath furnishings. Grab your espresso, have a seat and prepare to lose a bit of time as you peruse their site.
The next time I sleep in and wake to such an enchanted day, I can only hope I'm surrounded by beauty like that seen in the images above. One might be encouraged to slumber for a bit longer every day. :)

Coolest. iPod. Dock. Ever.
I know what you're thinking. You've got that cool white Bose Sound Dock for playing the latest Black Eyed Peas song. But, guys... look at this cool iPod dock I found. Harmon Kardon surround-sound. AMG 5-point custom wheels. Power rear sunshade. Vented leather seating. Dual panoramic sunroof. Talk about premier example of man's mastery of design.
Imagine yourself in the driver's seat listening to the sounds of Fergie, Will.i.am and.... those other guys. Every control you could ever wish for is at your fingertips, including built in GPS navigation. Of course, this supah-fly dock comes with a stiff $90K price tag. But just think how amazing the sound will be inside the cashmere beige leather interior. Ahhh.... I can smell it now.
By the way, if ever a car epitomized my idea automotive fantasy - this is it. This is exactly my preferred color combo (I'm a white on tan with wood accents girl). It is absolute German perfection. Of course, now I'm just being redundant. Let's just turn the volume up and kick back for a few.
"I've got a feeling...."

Homecoming Queen
A few nights ago I discovered my favorite barista had returned to my nearby Starbucks. He possesses the quintessential espresso-serving personality: smooth, easy going, warm with a hint of earthy goodness. I'd been missing him for the better part of a year. While we chatted it up I discovered he'd relocated to Vancouver and was only back in town for a short while. From there we sprang into a long discussion on his fabulous his new city.
Vancouver! If ever I was going to move north, this British Columbian gem would surely be the reason. It is unlike any other place I've visited. Somehow, this city with towering buildings and a gleaming city skyline offers the ideal blend of city living and abundant nature. Their impossibly chic downtown is walkable, their connection to nature will astound you and their culturally diverse population greets you with open arms. You'd be hard pressed to have a bad time in this world-class Canadian wonderland.
When we visited a few years ago, we were blown away by the top quality restaurants, the bustling art galleries, lively waterfront districts and beautiful architecture. And then... we discovered it: Stanley Park. If you could combine rugged wildness of the Pacific Northwest with Central Park's manicured spaces, add in a dash of European flair and a heavy serving of "are we still on the same planet?" beauty, you'd still be unable to sum up the wonder of the area. It is shockingly beautiful.Whether you enjoy hiking kayaking, biking, rock climbing or simply sunning yourself on the sand, Stanley Park is the cure for what ails you.
With the Olympics starting up shortly, I realize the entire world is about to descend upon this marvelous part of the world. It makes me want to pop up for a quick trip before it becomes too popular. While it's doubtful we can make in there in the next few weeks I'm dreaming of the places Id' stay if we could. Top of my list is the cosmopolitan Loden Vancouver. Billed as one of the best hotels in Vancouver BC, The Loden is a masterpiece on the city's waterfront. Just look at those photos! It doesn't get more sexy than that.
If you're looking for places to stay during the winter games, poke around HelloBC.com for things to do while you're there. I promise you'll consider relocating or at least buying an apartment in one of the many high rises that dot the downtown landscape. It's a spectacular city.
And as for my barista? He's headed back soon to enjoy the fresh sushi and vibrant lifestyle of his new home. Rather than be sad when he returns I'll look at the bright side: now I know a local who can show me around the next time I visit!
{Editor's note: I'm THRILLED to announce that I found this hotel the via Kiwi Collection site. Kiwi focuses exclusively on the world's best boutique and luxury hotels. I wish to thank them for being the premier 2010 Venti Cup sponsor. Stay tuned for more exciting destinations!}

Signed, Sealed, Delivered.
One of the prettiest fabric patterns seen at market was what I refer to as the "signature" print. It was so pretty! I have always had a fascination with handwriting. It's so expressive and full of surprises. And it's hard to mention handwriting without assigning personality traits to the writer. For those reasons and more I was smitten by this lovely fabric. We first saw it at the Pearson showroom. On accent pillows, on chairs, on settees. It really is quite versatile.
Later in the trip we saw a throw pillow at Hickory Chair in what appeared to be the same hand printed fabric. And then, last but not least... a gorgeous print I refer to as the calligraphy print. It reminds me of handwritten wedding invitations and bespoke stationery. Note the lovely wingback chair above in that bold and attention-grabbing fabric. SO yummy! I'd seen during my Hickory Chair trip in the spring, but never had the opportunity to post the photo. I suppose I was keeping it secret :)
But as with all trends, it reaches the masses faster than you can say copycat. Yes... upon arrival home, I saw what appeared to be a near identical pillow on the cover of my latest copy of Pottery Barn.*gasp!* I kid you not. But if you want the textiles that will last forever, check out Pearson's collection. (The fabric is brand new for market, so I don't see it on the site yet. Keep checking, though!)

Fit for a Queen
Take in enough visual information and it becomes easy to identify emerging trends. During my time at High Point Market a few key styles really stood out. First up, oversize chairs. True, Wearstler has been employing the use of these for years. But this was the first time I've seen them across the board offered for residential design. It seemed every brand offered their own version of "the big chair" - and often many varieties. These sizable beauties are all from the Henredon showroom. The chair in the above photo was enormous! Some of the girls asked me to sit in it to show just how big it really is. (For reference, I'm about five feet tall.) The more we looked, the more of these cartoonishly large chairs we noticed. These oversize forms took wingback to the extreme. To me, these chairs had a certain arrogance about them. And yes, I do mean arrogance. Without any words, furnishings like these tell the world you know a thing or two about design. The forms are bold, imposing and impossible to ignore. It says you outfitted your home with purpose and without hesitation. In my book, that's a good message to send! And I will say this... it felt great to feel so dainty and small in such a large, cozy chair. Something to consider if you're looking for a statement piece for your home. I love the look of pairing two together to create a conversation area.
On a side note, scale was one of the trends that surprised me the most. Clearly, many of these were meant for grand hotel lobbies or generously sized homes. It was inspiring to say the least.
Stay tuned for more from High Point Market!

Sunday Brunch
Yesterday was a full, fun packed day of play soaking p the sunshine and perfect "pre-fall" weather. We spent time at a beautiful park, played with the Chanel bags at Saks and enjoyed lunch outside - all before 1:00. It was one of those jam packed Saturdays that embodied la dolce vita. Great weather, great company and not a care in the world.
And it's a good thing, too, since today brought with it rain and clouds. The weather, of course, is driving me online so find beauty "indoors" to catch up on my digital life. So it's about time I mentioned how much I LOVE Shopbop's improved shopping experience.
First - the new layout. As a designer - I give them two thumbs up for the improved functionality and the new look. Bigger images, easier surfing, overall more immersive experience. I LOVE the new look. It makes me want to shop, which is clearly the result of good interface design and an expert design process.
Next up, the shop your style feature ROCKS. The "old" shopbop site used to prove a bit challenging for me. The rocker chic look tends to dominate in terms of merchandising. So much of the merchandise is tattered, torn and filled with grommets and studs. My style is somewhere between girly and classic, and the new site pulls together those looks for me. It makes shopping a breeze and introduces me to merchandise I wouldn't otherwise have seen. The result? I start lusting after merchandise I'd never have seen had it not ben for their gentle merchandising persuasion. Nice work, shopbop.
Take that yummy Thread Social dress above. I'd never seen it before yesterday. Today I'm wondering how I can live without it. Yes, it's that pretty to me. And of course... a cute dress is only as good as the shoes. And these Elizabeth and James open-toe ruffled metallic shoes are (OMG!) to die for, are they not? I love this whole ensemble and am pretty convinced I'd wear those yummy shoes with nearly everything in my closet. LOVE them. (Can't you just see Rachel Zoe rocking these?)
So shopbop, thank you for completely reworking your site. Otherwise I'd have nothing to drool over on this rainy Sunday. Much love to you. Mwwwah!

That's Some Serious Coin
One of my favorite magazines right now is Town & Country. I adore it. They don't weigh themselves down with fussy things like the economy and the Dow.
I wouldn't call it escapist reading, necessarily. But if you are looking at the market, look at the market. But please, keep it out of my fashion and lifestyle magazines. T&C cooperates nicely with my desire for compartmentalization. This magazine is for those who take their leisure and their jetset lifestyle seriously. It is, bar none, my favorite glossy.
A month or so ago the issue was dedicated almost entirely to jewelry. It was there that I discovered Roberto Coin. His pieces are beautiful. What I loved most about him, however, were the things he shared in an interview.
He is self taught.
He believes you are either both with creativity or you are not.
He believes that design school teaches oyu to design things you've seen. To produce.
To be a creator, he asserts, is the true gift. The ability to create that which has not yet been seen.
And in true fashion, he credits his Italian genes to much of this innate sense of style and creativity. And while his pieces don't at first glance appear to me groundbreaking designs, there is a certain newness to them. A level of detail you don't quite expect. The trademark jewel hidden or inset somewhere into the design. It's marvelous, really.
I happen to agree with Roberto, by the way. You can't teach someone to have an eye for design. I've been in classes with many who wanted so desperately to be creative visually, but it just wasn't in them. True, they could learn to master certain skills...but the best creativity spills forth like a fountain that cannot be stopped. It comes from the heart, not the hands.
And I suspect that's exactly the way Mr. Coin designs... from the heart.

Pull Up a Chair, This May Take a While
This week the topic focus was on beautiful printed goods. Be it paper, posters, artwork, stationary... artistic paper is worthy of celebration.
The image above is a clue as to the two topics I'll be covering before the month ends. It features Barbara Barry's exquisite Bracelet Chair for Henredon. Is that not the prettiest chair you've seen in ages? The photo jumped out at me from this month's MetHome magazine. Deeeelish! And the fabric is actually a Barry-designed textile available through Kravet. (At this moment I'm shaking my head and smiling at the ever-prolific Barry. Designers like her don't come around often. But when they do, we should all stand back and watch her craft her web of fabulousity.)
So... what are the topics? Next week is all about jewelry. Bracelets, baubles, bangles, bling... call it what you will. I've been uncovering some of the prettiest pieces available and I'm itching to share them with you. My advice? Freeze your Amex in a block of ice this weekend, because some of my discoveries are irresistable!
The following week we will go chair hunting together. Armchairs, side chairs, low-slung, outdoor... it doesn't matter. We'll talking fabulous seating and that's all that matters. Get ready to drool over some of the beautiful options on the market today.
Until then... have a fantastic weekend. I'm takinga few days off to play in the sun and rediscover my inner Zen. I'll catch you back here next week. Ciao a tutti!
{I'm not the only one drooling over the Bracelet chair. Check out Patrick's terrific post on the iconic designer.}

Trading Places
Looking at the Samantha Browns and Anthony Bourdains of the world I begin to wonder what other courses in life I could have taken. Fashion magazine editor, buyer for Bergdorf, host of Top Chef? Any number of things could have been fun careers to try.
But while eating and shopping your way around the globe for the Travel Channel seems effortless and fun, I imagine it's challenging to travel with a film crew and present your findings in a television friendly format. I don't envy Anthony his job. One culture's delicacy is another's dog food. He's definitely a man of the people and has the "when in Rome" attitude when it comes to local cuisine.
At least Samantha Brown is staying at the Four Seasons when she travels. And since her show isn't food-centric she enjoys the freedom of choice when she dines. I'd love to have her job for about six months. Long enough to see the world and get a sample of what it's like to do so in the public eye.
What about you? If you could perform any career on for size what would it be?

bienvenido a miami!
One of my best girlfriends went to medical school near Miami. It become a bit of habit to visit her once the weather in my state turned cold. Snow storm? Perfect. Just hop on a jet and escape for a few days like the other snowbirds.
There's nothing quite like visiting a Floridian mid-winter. The weather is absolutely perfect, poolside grilling is a regular affair, restaurant patios are brimming with people. It's Florida at its best. But locals think it's intolerably cold. I am no stranger to hot climates. (50s? 60s? It can seem chilly depending on how the sun hits. But mid-to-upper 70s is just not cold. Sorry.)
To my Miami friends it was the middle of winter. I saw people on the beach in parkas (I'm not kidding), couples bundled in sweaters and long pants, children in coats. Had I entered another world? An alternate universe? It was perfect outside. I made a mental note to myself one morning as I jogged along the beach: always fly south for the winter. Regardless of how offensive my open toed shoes seem to those in their fur coats. In the process of my trips, I developed a bit of a fascination with Miami. The beach culture, the nightlife, the Art Deco design, South Beach. And sadly I never made it down there as much as I should have. Funny how you long for something you never quite had. Miami certainly had that affect on me. I always wondered what it would have been like to live there and really dive into the culture that is South Beach. It's an entirely different world. Would I eventually pull out my fur jacket come January? Given enough time in the tropical heat, probably.
These days I wouldn't dream of moving to Miami, but it's been too long since I vacationed there. As I did a bit of digging I stumbled upon a marvelous find: The Shore Club. Smack dab in the heart of Miami's pulsing nightlife district, it's a luxury hotel that doubles as the center of the strip come nightfall.
70 suites, 307 stunning rooms, a cluster of bungalows, villas, extravagant penthouses, famed NOBU restaurant, the iconic Skybar and standard 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets... Aye! It's no wonder this is often described as one of the best hotels in Miami. I'm tempted to pack my bags as I write this, but I realize this would be quite the treat come winter. But really, it's not the club scene pulling me this morning. It's the lure of the completely luxe spa. Get a load of this:
Bienvenido a Miami! I should tell you that rooftop pools are one of my longtime guilty pleasures. And Florida boasts some of the best rooftop swimming pools I've crashed. (Yes...I've been known to invite myself to a swanky pool or two with or without an invite. What? Who's going to tell a girl in a bikini no? The answer to that is simple: no one.)
Now that my longtime BFF is a full fledged doc, she's no longer living a quick drive from South Beach. My winter escape is now a thing of the past. This December, I suspect I'll feel that annual snowbird craving that can only be quenched by the beach. And when I do, you can bet the Shore Club (and that coveted rooftop pool) will hear me come knocking - even if the locals are all huddled inside by the fire in their UGGS and chinchillas.

Featured Artist: Jason Brooks
Can't get enough of these images. I've actually posted this image before. Yet it took angel-Arabella's comment from the Jordi Labanda post to lead me to the source of such beauty. I want a large print of this one my closet wall. I adore everything about this image. The frames, the lips, the lashes, the hat. It's dreamy.
And here is an illustration inspired by Lanvin. Delicious in lavender.
I want notebooks with the left and right images on the cover. Actually....I want a print of the poster on the left and I want to live the life of the girl on the right. Dreamy, dreamy, dreamy. I do believe we can order these via the fashion illustration gallery.

Oh Lordy, More Jordi!
Ummm..... yeah. Time for a confession. Remember those pretty notebooks I mentioned that I use for my to-do lists? I deftly omitted the fact that they are Jordi Labanda illustrated notebooks. Yeah. This may seem a week bit tweenager of me, but they are one of my private obsessions. I've loved them since about 2001, way before they were picked up by certain mass market retailers. I knew about them before they were common and I have a stash of spiral bound Jordi books hidden in my cabinets. I love the covers so much that I actually don't throw my old journals away. Okay. I said it. Now you know. Now the world knows. Let's move on with this post.
Jordi is an impossibly talented illustrator from Barcelona who creates these ridiculously indulgent collections of stationery, paper products and other (often silly but mostly just pretty) products. Very few people know about my addiction to the notebooks. My husband and my girlfriend (who prefers I not call her out on my blog, so I'll call her Sasha) are my two secret enablers. And while clients and friends have seen me carry these to meetings, coffeehouses and other affairs, I'm always a week bit embarrassed when they catch a glimpse of the glamorous blonde on the cover. I have to say it feels good to finally come clean and confess my Labanda obsession.

Bailemos Tango!
I yearn for my first trip to Argentina. The flamenco dancing, the polo, Buenos Aires, the impossibly delicious seasoned steak, the architecture, the world class beaches (the world class shopping, while we're at it). Ahhhh.....it's going to be an amazing time.
And while I assumed South America (or at least a trip on the scale of what I am envisioning) was out of the question now that we've added a Bugaboo to our stable of vehicles, apparently I was wrong. Turns out, Argentina makes for a wonderful trip, whether or not you've got a little one in tow.
Sounds like we may try to plan a trip that coincides with the Triple Crown Cup of Polo in Palermo Buenos Aires this November. That buys me enough time to plan the trip. My new secret weapon? My Little Swans. It’s a site for families who travel the world with little ones in tow. The site helps us plan our next global adventure, itineraries, recommendation, trip planning and all. Read my full review of the site and the high-end service on Life in a Sippy Cup.
Which leads me to say one thing...Bailemos Tango!
