How to Wear: Sexy Florals...

Sexy

One undeniable trend has been dark florals. These are not preppy, happy Lilly Pulitzer prints. These are certainly a sexier spin on the bouquet. Think: seductive tones on a noir background. Deep plums, olive greens and off-white blooms. While it might be easy to dismiss this is a fall trend (a la Valentino's 2014 Fall ready-to-wear #PFW show from this week), designers are showing us subtle ways we can continue to bring sexy florals into spring.

Fragrance is one way to do it, but I like the idea of softly-hued florals on a black background. Nudes, soft plum, champagne and just a hint of pink set the tone for this more subdued approach to springtime bouquets. Keep things light with white denim or a billowy chiffon blouse for day, but don't be afraid to pair a dark floral blouse with black leather pants at night.

The key is to choose one standout patterned piece and at most reinforce it with floral jewelry. Less is certainly more when it comes to this decadent way of dressing. One of my favorite ways to add a hint of romance is with pretty floral shoes or perhaps a standout camisole. Top with classics and you've dipped your toe (perhaps quite literally) into the trend without going overboard.

A spritz (or two) of an intoxicating aroma, a hint of shimmer and you're out the door.
