Can You See?
"When we are young we are taught how to read, but not taught how to see."
An incredible quote from one of the designers who has most influenced my personal style. John Saladino. I love his nonchalant elegance and his dual focus on treasured acquisitions and comfort within homes. Velvets and linens on plush pillows and sofas in spaces that are both opulent and casual at the same time. His rooms always have a focal piece of artwork or a ravishing antique, but nothing ever seems off limits or untouchable.
John is also a fan of solid colors and plain fabrics, advising us that they will "never betray" us. He's right. his portfolio never looks dated, even though I've seen many of the photos again and again over the years. Solids are always fresh and welcoming. They bring no baggage and have no birthdays to count. This does not mean he is afraid of color. John favors lavender and plums as much as he loves a good beige. There's just something really timeless about his work.
So what is it about this statement that I love so much? Its truth. We look all day at everything... our phones, our friends & family, our surroundings, our homes... but do we SEE the world? Do we take it in? Do we fully appreciate the details of the building facades on our way to the office or the coffeehouse? Do we notice the stitching of the leather on the seats of our car? Do we pay attention to the pile of a velvet chair? Do we truly "see" the wonders around us?
I can't answer for you, but I can encourage you to begin opening your eyes to the miracles around you.

I've noticed that once I became a photographer I have definitely started to really see the world! It's an incredible feeling!!!
