Domino Effect
I've found myself thumbing through the Domino book again this weekend. I'd forgotten just how fantastic that magazine - and the easy chic spaces featured - really were. The looks are so timeless they could easily be featured in this month's Elle Decor. It's refreshing to look at gorgeous rooms that don't feel dated.
One persistent feature in most spaces was velvet. Oh, velvet! How I adore thee!No matter the time of year or location, plush velvet is supple to the touch and adds instant glamour to any room. I must admit I'm a sucker for the fabric. Seductively soft, instantly welcoming... it's really the perfect fabric. My true guilty pleasure is the Sunbrella line of velvets. Though durable enough to place outside in the elements, these sumptuous fabrics are terrific for use indoors. If you've not seen them, visit Williams-Sonoma Home's site and search for "Performance Velvet" options. I've also noticed that Hickory Chair offers the line.
For me, this is the best option. Durable, fade resistant and can handle heavy traffic from guests (not to mention homeowners themselves). It's a no brainer. Especially if you have children or pets.
If you need a drool, I suggest peeking through the rest of these fantastic Domino pix via xJavierx's Flickr photostream. He's got some dreamy ones posted!

Velvet and pets? Really? I always thought velvet would be a fur and dust attractor so I stayed far away.

I suppose Im lucky that my pet doesnt shed much. But really, the synthetic velvets are completely carefree. Ive also noticed shorter piles on the recent updates. This helps eliminate the lint magnet effect. :)

you are so welcome, Gene. I have been very impressed with indoor applications of this fabric. I do hope you expand the line to contain more colors. I cant imagine a busy household that wouldnt find a use for this in upholstered goods. Many of the retailers (WSHome included) arent necessarily pushing this as Sunbrella - but its a name designers know and trust.
Lets see some new shades for 2011! :)

I loved Domino Magazine. When I moved from my apartment to my condo I threw them all away because I didn't want to pack them up and drag them to a new place. I've regretted it ever since.
