Swimming pools. I love them. Particularly those of the rectangular, sparkling blue variety. For some reason the lagoon style and black bottomed versions don't appeal to me. It's all about that particular shade of blue that begs me to slip in and cool my skin.

The beautiful scene above is where Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer (granddaughter of Estee) finds serenity. It's the pool of her East Hampton home. Isn't it lovely? The cabana, with it's multiple sets of floor to ceiling french doors is the perfect size. When I see a space this grand and welcoming always hope that the homeowner or celebrity realizes the magical space they own. I hope Aerin hosts weekly parties and spends hours just relaxing by this beautiful private oasis.

This pretty shot is being added to the "keeper" file. The only things I'd change would be the potted plants (I love pink flowers) and patio furniture (I like mine a bit heftier). Other than that .... sheer backyard bliss!

Deep in the throes of full summer heat, I'm seeking coolness of another variety in this breezy outfit. A chiffon top, cropped white jeans, platform sandals and playful sunglasses. Oh... and that iconic Chanel reissue. Yes.. it's all so absolutely perfect.

I had a wee bit of time to play in Polyvore today. I keep promising myself I'll commit to building a catalog of sets. For those of you who are curious.. this outfit (like most of mine) was created from the shoes up. 

While I have many corners of the globe yet to conquer, the Maldives are among my personal top five. From the alluring turquoise waters to the pristine beaches, this remote group of islands are the closest thing to paradise many of us are likely to see.

As if the above weren't reason enough to visit, the Maldives now boast their very first south of the equator luxury resort. The Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa occupies an island all its own. Four miles of coastal perfection. Villas so private you'll forget about your friends and family back at home. In fact, if a reprieve from your hectic life is what you seek, I suspect this boutique resort has the cure for all that ails you.

Imagine waking up and enjoying a breakfast of fresh fruit after a dip in your private pool. Follow that with a hike through the lush tropical vegetation, stopping off to dip your toes in the occasional lagoon. For a special mid-day treat, take a chartered cruise the equator. There, as you gaze out at the lapping waves enjoying lunch and a cocktail you'll marvel at the idea that you're straddling the two hemispheres. After so much activity (this is a lazy vacation, after all) you'll head back to your private villa where your biggest decision will be whether you ought to sleep or go snorkeling. Ahhhh... paradise at last.

Another one of those "why hasn't this been around for a while?" ideas: Suite Arrival. What it is: an online mini boutique specializing in travel-sized toiletries and travel necessities. What makes it special: They offer customizable kits and can deliver the goods (including goodies like Oscar Blandi hair care products) directly to your hotel. (I suppose this is for those of you who've had your cherished products confiscated by TSA agents on your way out of town).

My quick take: The shop is new, so the selections are fairly limited, but I see a lot of potential. The customized kits are a great idea. In addition to organic offerings, they have something for everyone - even little ones. The best news is all orders over $50 ship for free.

Bottom line: great idea, and they are using social media in a big way to drive early success. Pop on over see what the fuss is all about. When you're done, friend them on facebook & follow them on twitter.

Posts may be a bit quick this week, as I'm deep in organization mode. For whatever reason - to organize my mind I need to get control of every item in my environment. I'm editing, editing, editing. Cabinets are being cleaned, wood polished, tile cleaned, closets organized. The bottom line: own less, lest your possessions own you.

It's exhausting but incredibly cathartic and filling me with specific purpose and focus. In preparation for the exciting content coming your way once I'm done (trust me, baby... it's coming!)... I thought I'd leave you with these marvelous images of Pottery Barn's upcoming fall 2010 collections. The clean lines and light as feather vibe are perfect inspiration for my current cleaning mode!

Likewise, those of you looking for a fixer-upper are a curious breed. I admire your desire for home (or man) improvement. I tend to be the kind of girl who prefers new construction, or at least move-in ready. In terms of a man, this would mean he already has a taste for nice shoes and crisp business shirts.

Now... the kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of the home. Is it light and airy? Or is it a dark place that needs a little (or a lot of) love. Again, I can't imagine having to gut a space and start from scratch. Those of you with more patience (and deeper pockets) might thrive on the idea of tearing down cabinets and inventing a space of your very own. Again... in the man department I prefer the type without war wounds to heal. A guy ready to commit right away without having to unpack his old baggage first. 

The unifying quality? Light. Lots and lots of light. Light - for me - means joy, energy, endless possibilities. It lifts my spirits and fills me with optimism. Much like a husband or boyfriend with a sunny disposition makes a great counterpart, a sun-drenched home makes me smile day in and day out.
