From the Desk Of...
Writing is a wonderful thing. In addition to having the technology of the web at your fingertips, and a seemingly infinite network of blogs and bloggers to connect to - I'm happy to think that so many individuals have discovered the joys of written word. There is a satisfaction in "finding your voice" and crafting your own individual style as an author. How grand is it to sit at your desk, craft your thoughts and hammer them out in pixels for the world to see?
I know many have a love/hate relationship with blogging... but I for one love it. What's not to like? I interact with exciting people every day, post pretty pictures of things I adore and admire, and have an excuse to be alone with my thoughts and opinions.
What many don't consider, however, is the author's pulpit. Where do you do your best writing? Is it a window seat at a busy cafe? Or are you an office blogger, squeezing in posts between meetings and reports? For me, I prefer to write from my home. I love the windows, the sunshine, bare feet (sorry, no Choos allowed on these floors!) and the relaxed mood.
But this doesn't mean I'm satisfied. In fact, in my next home I want a dedicated space specifically carved out for me and my beloved Mac. A space far too feminine for my husband to appreciate. Surely I'll need oversize paned glass windows (french doors are my great hope), a chandelier, the white lacquer table from WS Home I adore so very much, a Bergere chair and a pair of Ghost Chairs nearby. A mirrored console with a fresh bouquet of stargazer lilies, colorful artwork on the walls and a view... oh the view. I'm aiming for a view of a sparkling pool. But mainly I need beams of sunlight and high ceilings. Yes.. this will be my favorite retreat in the home. A space that screams "venti girl" all the way.
But I'm curious... where do you do your best writing?

It seems we share the same dream of our own private space in our next home. Oh how I long for a room (that is not my bedroom) that I can walk into, close the door, and let out a long, contented sigh of satisfaction. And like you, surrounded by all things girly.
I've done a bit of writing at the public library (which I enjoyed) but at the moment I do my best writing in the early morning hours when the rest of the family is still asleep. I'll plop down on my comfy, oversized couch, curl my legs beneath me with a fresh cup of piping hot coffe next to me. Ahh...bliss.
Great post, Franki!

Cathleen, lately my perch of choice is the kitchen table... its not ideal, but it saves me tons of time. I have this fantasy of sitting outside on our furniture enjoying the breeze and the sun... but its just a fantasy. On the occasion that I do venture out to try it, the suns too bright without shades, and I cant see the screen as well with the sunglasses pulled down. Ten minutes later Im hunched over and hot, so I teeter back inside and land myself at the table once again... peeking out at the patio thinking I should be out there. LOL.
I do know the solution, however: poolhouse or cabana. Complete with my own staff, trickling fountains and someone to bring me my bottles of Evian. Ahh, sweet goals. Where would I be without them? ;)

I am right there with you, girls! Right now, my writing space is on the sofa in the living room of my incredibly small apartment. I long for a proper desk, balancing the laptop on my lap has grown old. I also require a stereo system where I can play jazzy music without lyrics so I won't be distracted, a plush carpet underneath my tootsies and a view of the water. A deep blue pool will do nicely;-)

I'm a "squeeze it in between meetings & phone calls" blogger, but honestly it is during sleepless nights or the verge of slumber that I feel the most wordy & creative. Words & thoughts spin together, weaving beautiful posts in my head, but I'm usually too tired to turn on my computer or grab a pen to capture those profound moments.

Anne, you definitely need a sketchbook pen by your bed. I am usually one to solve big problems in my head. If Im desperately seeking a solution I usually wake up with the best answer. Without my trusty notebook those would never be recalled come morning!

cutest post. all those desks are divine! I was thinking I must be so naughty for my pulpit of choice (between meetings. definitely an office blogger. don't tell my boss) but I feel so much better than it's prevalent enough to be included in your categories. Write on, bloggers! :)

I have a feeling if I had an office as adorable as these, I'd be daydreaming instead of working!

In my old fourth floor apartment, my perfect writing spot was a huge window sill in our living room that overlooked the city. I wish I had that same cozy place now, but having my bed next to a window is a good runner up.
These offices are amazing, btw. I tried picking my favorite, but it's just impossible. I love them all.

I used to think I did my best writing with a pen and a notebook sitting in bed, but that has changed since I began blogging. That was more of a "let me hurry up and write this paper for my class" kind of writing in college.
Now I love my little office nook that holds my laptop and necessary girly accessories. That's where it all comes together. Love your blog by the way, just found it over at Fabulous K. I'll be following ;)
