2010 Color Forecast

Blue2 Pantone, "the" source for color in our lifetime, has established their 2010 dominant color prediction: turquoise. Here's the skinny from Luxist:

Last year color-defining company Pantone chose sunny Mimosa as the shade for 2009. Their choice for the color of 2010 is PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise, a tranquil blue-green hue that recalls tropical waters and clear skies. The choice marks another year of distinctly cheery hues, far less dramatic than 2008's moody blue iris or 2007's fiery chili pepper red. Pantone's color experts say that the turquoise color can be used as an accent both in clothing and in home decor to provide a calming and colorful touch. They are also pushing it as a wedding color, pointing out how well it offsets white. One trendsetter has already embraced turquoise, Michelle Obama wore a bright turquoise dress on December 2 while unveiling the White House holiday decorations.

Personally, I'm still enjoying my poppy-hued home accessories. I don't mind shifting my apparel with the times, but interior design color palette doesn't swing so wildly with the changing winds. Turquoise is going to have a tough time integrating with my home's hues. Fashion, however, is another story. Michelle makes it look season appropriate, but I find turquoise much more difficult to contemplate when it's 30 degrees outside. Come spring, however, I imagine I'll be changing my tune. Time to pull out those Tory Burch tunics from a few seasons ago...

What the beautiful people are saying...

Lusting for Michele's boots!

I am loving the color, but I'm always skeptical of a "year" color because, as you know, the trends tend to change with the seasons. I, myself, like to change things up with the seasons and, while I love this beautiful Caribbean turquoise blue, if I saw it everywhere for a year, I'd probably get sick of it.

So true, Sara. The other problem with a year of color is that you look back in photos, books, magazines and think Oh, that was soooo fall 2007. No one wants to be too trendy. Thats one reason I dont let these things dictate my interior color palette. A new blouse is no big deal. A new sofa? Thats unrealistic unless you are the set designer of a summer blockbuster movie and need to be perfectly on-trend.

Is it just me or do you feel like we have already been in the year of turquoise? I feel like I have seen it everywhere including home decor. Don't get me wrong I actually really enjoy the color especially in pillows, window treatments and other accents....maybe it is something to look forward to for the spring but I agree stay away from the big purchases in any trendy color!

I feel like this color comes around every summer. It is the quintessential summer hue, since its the color of tropical water. So its difficult to imagine isolating this as the color for the year, right? This past year I saw so much navy paired with it. I cant imagine doing it again in 10. So I agree, we just did this. LOL. Maybe pantone is losing their touch ;)

Yay - love turq! That dress and Mrs.O's coat are gorgeous.

I love it that Michelle Obama is wearing flat boots! FLAT!!

Something to say, gorgeous?...
