We're Just Not That Into You
We rented He's Just Not That Into You last night thinking it was more along the lines of a romantic comedy. Far from it. For all of you (99% of you) who've already seen it. Oh. My. Goodness. I wasn't prepared for the harsh honesty of it all. And yet this morning I was compelled to torture myself with the excruciatingly painful deleted scenes. It's a wonder any of us end up happily ever after, isn't it?
After watching the movie I had one thought in mind: why do we agonize over it all so much? And - more importantly - why can't we just say it when we're just not that into someone. Why can't we be more upfront? More candid? The truth hurts, but isn't it more unkind to keep someone's wheel spinning on your behalf?
In terms of running your own business, clients are the new "romantic pursuits" that keep you reeling. You await their call. Wonder if your spam filter snatched the email from your inbox. So you call...hoping to catch them at their desk. All you want is a simple yes or no on your proposal... your services...you. And yet.... you wait....
Occasionally you make excuses for their delayed response. "They must be in meetings." Or the ever popular "He's probably traveling this week."
But what about us? Sometimes we are indeed the client. Aren't there times when you should just tell the painter, the landscaper, the stylist, the vendor that you've decided to go with someone else? Are they on the other end making excuses for you? Surely the answer is yes.
And so I wonder...how much time and energy could we save by just being freed by the truth. No matter how awkward and painful? Isn't dragging out the timeline and the effort even more unkind than a simple yes or no?
Free someone today.

AMEN! *drops a $50 into the offering plate and passes it along*

Well Said!! & So True!!
I hated that movie too. I bought the book several years ago to help recover from heartbreak and LOVED IT..i actually keep it on my bedside table! so, when i heard they were making a movie, especially with so many "big names" i could hardly wait!! but, i was so disappointed, instead of it being funny, lighthearted and entertaining, it actually made me angry and affected me for a few days after!!!!

i hated that movie too! i just felt that woman were just so desperate in there.
i agree that sometimes we should be up front. when i was wedding planning i notified the vendors that i chose someone else. i wouldn't want to be the one wondering so why do that to others?

I have been invited to a girls movie night and will be watching this one shortly. Maybe it will be funnier with a few glasses of wine.
