I Choose Choos. What About You?
Are shoes the new lipstick? Seems to be the case. This is an excellent article on Second City Style about what we're spending money on right now. And you know what? They are right. I'm focusing on investment pieces exclusively right now. Which doesn't mean I'm spending less. It just means I'm not interested in buying this season's vintage tees or experimenting with new shades of gloss. I'm completely focused on quality. Cashmere. Perfectly fitted jackets and classic yet fabulous pieces. But then again, I am in the midst of a massive closet rebuild, so it makes sense I'm starting with my foundation pieces.
But when pressed, industry insiders reveal that women are absolutely having fun with their purchases. Cocktail rings, bracelets, scarves, handbags, shoes (shoes!), vintage tees (yes, vintage tees) and red lipstick. If women's shopping preferences are any indication of the financial climate of the world, it's clear we are motivated by and large by what makes us happy. It is referred to as the Lipstick Effect.
So I ask... what are you buying? Is happiness the determining factor?

Shoes...definitely and building an envious wardrobe of fab pencil skirts to go with said shoes. =)

My favorite line from Sex and the City is when Carrie looses her Choo's.

i'm still buying shoes too, but find myself looking for less expensive options for the more trendy styles.

Mrs. E. just spent the birthday budget on several oils. Real paintings by at least one well known artist from the 1930's.
I'm still holding out for a good pair of tassle loafers by Alden, a double monk strap (Lobb?) and a perfect suit...

I love these shoes. LOVE.
I have to say that my spending habits have completely changed. Regarding jeans for example, I decided that I just can't spend the money right now. I need a new pair of dark blue and a new pair of white bc my chip and pepper and citizens and sevens from seasons past need a break or need a new home...but what did I do, I bought a pair at Banana Republic and one at gap (the white jeans there fit me like a glove). I had to. Oh, and you mentioned lip gloss...I recently started buying the Revlon glosses and they are amazing! They look as fabulous as my Dior gloss and Mac and Chanel but they are no where near the price. But one thing I will never skimp on is shoes and bags. There is a reason why certain items cost so much...they are worth it and I'd rather put my money toward shoes that I know I will have for years like my Manolos or Fendi or anything else that I have. Even Joan and David and Charles David and Tahari...they cost less than the others but they are just as gorgeous and cost less but they are not cheap...the jeans, whatever...I will wear them for a few months and after that the wear changes...and besides, the BR ones this season are really great. :)
I'm also buying dresses for some reason. I'm really into them for this summer...I hit the Bluefly sale the other day. all I can say is: wow.za.
