Some rather noteworthy candid photos from Paris Fashion Week. I really enjoyed these and thought you might as well. More can be found at The Moment.

Candid editorial thoughts:
I'm a sucker for candid photos. I feel everyone looks better in them. No matter how blessed you are in the looks department, I just don't love a forced smile, a strained pose, a frozen ice queen (or king) moment.

Do I love editorial spreads in magazines? You betcha. They serve a purpose. But if you want photos of me you'd better catch me in my natural habitat and not ask me to hold still for the camera. At the end of the day, I really want albums filled with photos of me and those I love taken as the moments of my life happened. I think it's a shame we freeze and strain to pose for family photos when someone pulls out a camera. The next time you catch yourself (or someone else) doing this, remember that the goal is to capture the moment, not kill it.

Think about it, wouldn't you cherish photos of your grandmother laughing far more than seeing her hold an awkward pose for 39 seconds as the rest of the crowd assembled? And your husband... your wife... you want to see them living, laughing, loving. Not forcing a stoic pose.

Maybe it's just me, but I want the photos in an album to mimic the snapshots in my mind. The wind blowing through my hair as I drive down the coast in a convertible listening to music just a bit too loud and having way too much fun. I want photos of my parents and grandparents enjoying themselves doing whatever it is that they love to do. I want images of my friends as I see them in my mind.

So, raise your glass (or in my case my water bottle) to candid photos. I hope to see (and be seen in) as many of them as possible.

What the beautiful people are saying...

Great post - couldn't agree with you more. I usually run when I see a camera in sight. Hate being asked to stand there while the person taking the photos says "oh wait ... okay ready ... oh shoot .. hold on." all the while my smile turns sour.

I love this photog for The Moment, I've been obsessed with their fashion coverage.

It's one of the best blogs out there right now ;)

candid is the way to go. I hate posed photos - there is nothing interesting in capturing a moment that is planned, only a moment in time that is spontaneous.

Something to say, gorgeous?
