Wild Kingdom
Every year the fashion forecasters tell us "safari is going to be big this season"... is it just me, or don't they tell us that every year? Fortunately, I LOVE this look. So bring on the khakis, the exotics and the strappy platform sandals - this is my kind of adventure!
And, once again they are telling us python is the "it" skin. That's funny, it's been the "skin to be in" for at least to springs. But that bodes well for those of us with a few clutches and shoes in the closet. (Not that we cared about being "in" or "out" anyway).
I do, however, like that this version of "safari chic" is very tailored and body conscious. It looks feminine and elegant without making it seem that you work at Busch Gardens. It is very polished looking.
For me, the look needs a satchel or clutch, because the hobo bags just make it too sloppy and unstructured. But clearly Gucci (at the top) is pushing the slouchy bag. In fact, theirs is hanging down closer to he knees and isn't being worn across the body. Interesting detail... maybe that's what's coming down the pipe for us. I'll pass on the dangling bag, but keep those unbelievable bronze Gucci platforms she's rocking.
So bring on the urban jungle, baby. This is a look I'll definitely be rocking come spring.
{Editorial comment: am I the only one who thinks she looks dangerously thin? She's more gazelle than Giselle, that's for sure.)

Safari has been in since Michael Kors made his comback many years back. But like you said this one is at least clean with a little more structure so it's all good. What is up with those bags!? I actually saw this in the boutique, it is not just long it has fringe as well. Very busy. But that clutch and the platforms you have there are so fab that the fringe is forgotten. Fabulous post! Thanks you!

Charlie!!! Thanks for popping by! Yes, you are so right. the fringe. Too much for me.
And Michael.. how could I have overlooked the influence of Sir Michael Kors himself. The king of sportswear himself :)
ciao!

Great. I love all things African, but those shoes...you could kill yourself wearing them.

Love... but in moderation. Not done well and I think of Banana Republic circa the 90s. But the clutch and platforms posted are fabulous

The platforms are fabulous! That's the right way of reminding someone (me) of the upcoming season. Thanks! :)

Richele, I'd love to say I'm sick of it, but it always strikes me as so refreshing come spring. Head to toe, no "look" is ever good. But I love some of the detailing and the African bangles...
Ladies, I agree, those shoes are amazing! Stilts or not, they'd make my calves look so nice!

Touche! I love safari as well and yes, they do always forecast that as the next 'big thing' of the season.

They do tell us that every year, but since the recent shows I've also been hearing a lot of "The Russian peasant look is going to be in this year" and "The English Heritage look (tartans and tweeds) is in again" and yet i have a magazine clips and my own photos from stores in Europe from one, two, even three years ago when they were saying the same thing. Do the fashion gurus simply think we don't remember anything anymore or have the cycles shortened from a decade or two to a year? I do love the safari look though - super for travelling!
