Death by Handbag?
A Fendi ad. I assume she fainted upon seeing her Saks bill for the month.
A Louis ad from the 2008 campaign. I can only assume the car hit her because the driver was overcome by her scandalous outfit. Maybe the handbag cushioned the impact and saved her.
Either way, I love the implication that even after a fall, the woman in question keeps careful clutch on her fabulous bag. Even death can't separate them. Fabulous.

HaHa!
that's funny! I would faint at that bill for sure.

Classic. I'm loving the Post-Mortem chic look. Somehow, it makes me feel like I might die if I DON'T buy one of those scrumptious bags.

At least the model in the Fendi ad had the good sense to faint on her fur covered floor! I love how the bag gets more light than her face, very subtle. The color difference in the ads is striking as well. Says quite a bit about each company's direction.
Great post, Franki!

hmm this ad campaign looks a lot like one that ran in europe last year.

This is fantastic...so funny! Don't you love all the DRAMA that goes into these ads?

Hehe. Such a great post and so true!!!

Oohhh, love it! I'll have to blog about my experience in Rome recently visiting bespoke artisans, including a family who are the creators of exquisitely crafted handbags. Once you set your eyes on them, Franki, you'll be ordering one, I'm sure.

Too funny! Gets your attention though...and that's the point, yes?

you guys are so great. I'm so glad my sense of humor is shared. LOL.
Gotta love the Drama is right!

Love the comment about the saks bill! Dramatic ads for sure, but they're something that spurs talking, which is what the best ads aim to do.

I think the chick on the car hood is in the midst of a post-shopping orgasm. 'Course I would be too if I could afford an LV bag!

They are beautiful ads, though. What colors. I was floored by my the June Vogue, it was chock full of just the such. The Marc Jacobs - Posh ad was in there, maybe not new, but the first time I'd seen it. It was totally odd, wonder if you had any gossip on it. I just didn't get it.

The 80's gave us the torn, "just been raped" look, the 90's brought in the corsett on the outside, "prostitute" chic, and now we are privy to the final demise, "death" pose. What next? The unmarked grave by the side of the road with a Fendi Bag hanging from a wooden cross? Anyone else see a trend here?

LOL. You guys are a riot. Barb, your comment has me literally laughing out loud.
Rebecca, I am so behind on Vogue. Now I have to hunt this issue down and devour it. Interesting...
FashionGirl... wow! Now that;'s insight. ;)
Kate - you are exactly right. These ads were so effective I'm blogging about them. Nice agency work, I'd say ;)
What a fun bunch of comments.

The handbag ads are getting a little... odd. I've noticed it myself.

Okay, I just read this post today and this morning I happened to get a link to this http://www.melaniepullen.com/ which really disturbed me. Is this morbid fashion photography thing becoming a permeating trend, if so - give me runways and I am cancelling my subscription to Vogue

Oh my God. Those are deplorable, Melody. That's completely insane - not to mention unnecessary on their part.
Thanks for the heads up.
Sasha, I agree. "Odd" is a polite way of putting it ;)

Yikes! How sad or is it sick, that in every one of those shots I wanted to reach for the bag? I scare myself! Maybe these pictures are representative of the consumer's state of mind. More and more fashionista's are rebelling and thinking twice before spending 2k or 5k on a handbag that is "out" the day after they get it home. The designers are taking advantage of our love of beautiful things. I mean how many of you would spend 50,000.00 dollars on a LV bag that is made of remnants of other bags? (It was hideous and only one of those sold to JayZ for Beyonce.) If I could spend that sort of money on a bag I would head over to Hermes and order what I want in many colors ala POSH...O.K. if they let me in I would order them. They probably wouldn't let me in:-)
