Pivot!
Whenever I hear the word pivot I am taken back to the classic friends episode where they move the sofa. I can't tell you the number of times I've 'supervised' while having people move large pieces of furniture for me. Like Aniston, I'm always confident they will fit - no matter how small the space. This is consistently met with much frustration from my helpful companions.
So when I saw the new Pivot table by Israeli designer Shay Alkalay I had to giggle at the name. But Shay's innovative design quickly halted my laughter. Talk about functionality. Storage, versatility and high concept all rolled into one cool piece of furniture. I initially only came across the blue version (as featured in the NY Times), but fortunately dezeen opened my eyes to the deep walnut option.
Who is Shay? dezeen fill us in:
Check out his studio Raw-Edges.Shay Alkalay is a young Israeli designer. Having graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 2006 (MA Design Products, Ron Arad’s Course) he is now designing in his own Raw-Edges Design Studio in London

I, too, am instantly taken back to that Friends episode whenever I hear the word "pivot" or see a sofa being moved! It was one of the funniest scenes. Anyway, I like the walnut finish also; very nice!

we always end up crying out 'pivot!' when we're moving something. I love how that's such a part of pop culture now. certainly makes sofa moving more fun ;)
