Saks offers us a closer look at Jimmy Choo through an interview (and high heel) laden video. Get to know the founder and learn more about the book these Choos inspired. I'm loving these impractical (but no less necessary) gold snakeskin numbers. Hello, gorgeous.

Amo Venezia!
As I wandered the web looking for images of a chandelier for a certain someone, I came across these lovely shots of Venice on a TripAdvisor photo album. I can't wait to return to this amazing city! There's something so fabulous about crossing a street by boat. It is truly a unique experience.
We stayed in a room that reminded me of this one. In true Venetian style, the drapes matched the bedspread which matched the fabric wallcovering... it was overwhelming, but so apropos for our first stay in Venice.
There's something familiar about this bridge. It makes me wonder if this couple stayed in a room near the cafe we went to on our first evening. I'd like to imagine this was take early in the morning as the sun came up over the city, but judging by the number of people in the shot it is more likely it is an afternoon shot.
And this is the cutest image of all. I love the silhouettes of our 'mystery travelers' during their stay in Venice. What a lovely space they are in.. and how romantic to have the room to themselves so early in the morning. The views... the floor... the floor to ceiling drapes... the round tables for two by the windows...the VIEW. Ahh... Venezia is calling me back. Time to head back to the old country. Italy... I'm missing you dearly today!See the rest of this album on TripAdvisor.

Snug as a Bug in a Rug
If you missed it, please head over to Alkemie's blog to see her terrific post on the Rug Company's wide variety of impeccable floor coverings. Sadly, I can't think of a single room that needs a rug right now... but I'd love to have the one above. Gorgeous.
I love how she puts it:
I'll second that, Alkemie!"I'll never look at rugs quite the same way after The Rug Company!"

Put a Cork In It
I love the duality of runway fashion and home fashion. The two are intersecting now more than ever before. Right now I'm loving the cork platforms popping (sorry for the play on words) up everywhere. An early morning note from Z Gallerie let me know cork was high on their style list this season.
But that's not where the cork platforms end. Prada, Kors and Louboutin are just a few of the fashion houses who'll be propping us up on these cushy platforms this for summer and spring. I for one am thrilled. This means I can rock all of my cork platforms from last season (not that I wouldn't have anyway) while knowing I'm still at the front of the curve. And if you haven't slipped your feet into a pair of cork-bottom heels... do yourself a favor and buy several pair. A good pair of corks will feel like you're walking on air. Your feet will thank you. Like buttah' ladies. Like buttah...

Help Needed Locating Corner Shelves
I'm looking for something that I cannot seem to find. I need to locate three white corner shelves. These would be floating shelves that would be installed in the corner of a room. The style I am seeking is triangular in shape and fits snugly in the corner. Ideally, they'll have crown molding front edges to match (or at least coordinate with) these Pottery Barn shelves. I've looked in the usual locations online. Any ideas?
Leave a comment or email me. Thank you!!!!

Great White
It's hard to go wrong with the color white. But often, designers and decorators strive to cover barren walls with color. It is true that white, in the wrong hands, screams unfinished, unrefined, unsophisticated. And in most cases, white walls do indeed indicate a lack of creativity or confidence. Who doesn't remember white walls from the half dozen apartments they've rented, or the dorm walls you weren't allowed to paint.
But as you'll clearly see, white can often be the dramatic color a refined space needs. And the key word in that sentence is color. Yes, white is indeed a color that can help you evoke a mood. It can elevate, it can downplay. Yes, the great shade of white is quite chameleon like. It goes without saying that white can also be formal and modern. So the images below (all harvested from Desire to Inspire) will show you some of the other faces of magical, versatile white. Enjoy...
It's not surprising that white can be romantic. We expect that. A painted brick wall, a white duvet, an off-white chair paired with white shutters. This space screams romance. I want to imagine the window overlooks a small garden or patio in a chic little neighborhood, and if you lean out you can just catch the scent of the corner cafe. Such a mood. All thanks to the power of white.

Here, white is both classic and modern. The Saarinen table somehow blends perfectly with the Byzantine columns and rustic arched doorway. The items themselves are so varied in origin, but the mellow palette is the unifying glue that holds it all together. Behold, the power of white.
Here, white is rustic and weathered. It is soft and moody. It begs the viewer to ask about the history of the space and the objects contained within. Is this a seldom used corner of a weekend cottage? Are we in Nantucket or Savannah? White is mysterious and full of stories here.

And finally, in this image white is downright inviting. This space is relaxed and welcoming. And lets be fair, white sofas do not often beg you to put your feet up. But this one wants you to bring your dog and your coffee and settle in for a long, lazy afternoon.

le bébé élégant
I'm having a field day getting the nursery ready, although I;ll readily admit it is designed to my style, not that of a newborn. And (no surprise) eBay is turning out to be a wonderful resource for all things stylish.
For example, I found this lovely chandelier from an amazing eBay seller, Trendy Vintage Collection. The chandelier care packaged with such care and attention to detail. I could not have been more pleased with the quality of the item. It looks marvelous in the new room. If you have any need for lighting of this sort, I cannot say enough great things about her product and her service.
Next, I came across these chic little letters for the wall. For me, this solved a 'what in the world do I place over the crib?' issue. Yes, these are available in many locations, but I found an amazing vendor on eBay who can do the letters in virtually any font at all (a major bonus, as I'd fallen in love with a new typeface recently). If you (or a hip friend) are pimping out a room for a little one, Creative Woodcrafts is the way to go.
If you're interested, I might post pictures of the space once it's finished.

InSite is... Insightful
Somehow I did not notice the Neiman Marcus blog: NM InSite. Sure... it is peppered with product placement, but there are some nice flourishes as well. Take, for example, the random quotes such as the one below:
"For me, elegance is not to pass unnoticed but to get to the very soul of what one is."
—Christian Lacroix
Add to that, designer interviews. Including one with Trace Ayala of William Rast. And - of course - they note the emerging trend of shaded chandeliers. Not a bad blog, for a corporate blog. I'll admit it, I like it. They don't allow comments, but it's a nice approach for showing a more personal side of the luxe giant.
Now I just hope they'll tell me what skin care products this gorgeous girl above uses. Her skin is impeccable. Maybe Neiman's will bottle her beauty secret. If so, I'm lining up for my pre-order...

Up, Up and Away!
Travel is such an important part of my life. One of my favorite quotes is this one by St. Augustine:
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."
I couldn't agree more. Add chapters to your life by planning the trip and buying a ticket. Most of the people I know who do not travel fail to take that final step. They dream of "someday" doing this, "one day" going there. Listen, the tourism board is very unlikely to come knocking on your door and pack your bags for you. You must take it upon yourself to travel. It is your right as a free person and your duty as a citizen of the world to explore this lovely marble we all live upon.
But even seasoned travelers wrestle with where to go and what to do once they select a location. Enter my good friend Anne Lindell Herndon of Instant Native Travel. She's the maestro of the stress-free getaway. Whether your next trip is Mumbai or Manhattan, Anne has a magical way of taking all of the pressure off of you and handling the details herself. All you'll need to do is pack your bag and hop into the town car as you head to the airport. She'll handle airline arrangements, book your hotel and arrange the best itinerary for your mode of travel. I can't say enough good things about her personal service and her ability to understand the level of involvement you prefer.
Need to get away? Visit Anne's site to learn more about her personal concierge services. She says it best: "If you can dream it, I can plan it!" You know what? I believe her. her business is booming, and it is no doubt due to her expertise and consistent commitment to quality. I've never seen anyone delve so deeply into their area of expertise, and it clearly shows in her work.
And while I'll be delaying any far flung summer trips this year, I can assure you that the next vacation we take will be planned by the lovely travel concierge herself. And I have no doubt it will be fabulous. Keep up the great work, Anne!!!

Mies Van der Rat?
Someone has a wicked sense of humor. Style Saves the World pointed us to Spot on Square, an company churning out environmentally sensitive products for children. At first glance? Cute. Modern, hip. Very cute.
On a normal day, I'd have let it go. But... curiosity called, and I decided to dig around the site to see what the mod home furnishings store had to offer. And I'm so glad I did. Here's why...
For those of you who don't know (okay, 99% of you won't know), in my "day job" I'm a professional interactive designer. I design web sites, blogs, corporate branding... you name it. Whether it involves pixels or paper, I can make it (and you) look fabulous. (My side gig and future direction is interior design...which explains this blog, and my love of all things interior...but I digress...) What does this have to do with Spot on Square? I'll tell you...
Design involves a lot of organization and a systematic way of doing things. You are constantly naming files, assets, projects. Naming plays a large role in the life of a designer. And as time goes on (10+ years in my case) you begin to have a lot more fun with it. After all, in most cases, only you will see the names of your files. But product design and branding allows you to assign names to objects that others will see. Often these are personal, and only mean something to the team (think: wallpaper named Isabelle, possibly named after the designer's daughter), but other names are almost there as hidden jokes. Which, I can only assume, is the case with this product...
Mies, as this plaque is called, is quite the funny name for a piece of bamboo wall art with the shape of a rat in it, no? As a student of interior design and architecture, I can only assume the team (or comical person) who named this planned to build a little humor into the product. Mies. MIES. As soon as I see it, I immediately think Mies Van der Rat. Sorry, this 'designer humor' may be lost on you.
And that's not all... Charles is the name of the cow. Wait for it... wait for it... Chuck. Ground chuck. I'm sorry, but this is too funny to ignore. And Frank is the name of the pig. Has to be an ode to those cheap little ballpark franks made with pork. I'm sorry, but this was too funny to keep to myself.
(Roshini... I hope you are out there giggling...and I hope you're having fun giving quirky, tongue-in-cheek names to as many items as you possibly can. For the other 99% of you out there... forgive me for laughing at the humor of my peers.)

parlate italiano?
We've decided to learn another language together. Spanish makes the most logical sense, as I've had four years of classes in the past. But it isn't nearly as interesting to me as Italian. If pressed to choose another country to live in, Italy would be at the top of the list. Therefore, getting that pesky language barrier out of the way is a nice goal. Practical? No. Life enhancing? Yes. And who am I kidding... I'd love to be able to speak privately to my husband in Italian... not to mention, be able to more easily converse with the locals when we travel.
I would easily spout out helpful phrases such as "Questo viene nel mio formato?" (does this come in my size?), "Quando ha luogo andare seguente del traghetto per Capri?" (When is the next ferry leaving for Capri?) and "Quali pesci suggerite oggi?" (which fish would you recommend today?) without hesitation. Ahh, the good life.
Have any of you taken up another language in your adult life? Any input?

The Bohn Supremacy
Confession: we love bank robbery movies. If it involves a heist, grappling hooks, cracking a big safe or getting away with a sensational caper you can bet we've seen it or would love to add it to our Netflix list. So when Shannon at Pink Wallpaper featured Laura Bohn's New York loft - located in a former bank, no less - I knew it deserved to be mentioned again.
Here's how New York Social Diary describes the loft:
We were swept away by Laura Bohn’s loft in a Beaux-Arts former bank building in the Village. Instead of decorating, she almost seems to sculpt interiors. She is in love with texture, strange contrasts and the play of light. She sees potential in all kinds of modern materials, including the most lowly or unyielding –concrete, plastic, finished metals – and turns them to her advantage. There is a luminous, organic quality to the colors with which she works, resulting in a space that is somehow simultaneously dramatic and serene. She is totally unafraid of a bare space, adores gut renovation and, by her own admission, is a workaholic.
The cavernous space is obviously no match for Laura's aesthetic. She manages to make it feel intimate and grand at once. It is colorful without being loud. Neutral without being boring. And as the observation above attests, texture is the name of the game with this rediscovered loft space. Again, my acid test for any environment is "would I want to live there?" The answer here (even without that delicious safe door) is a resounding yes.
Laura is a former model turned designer interior designer. And I should have guessed by looking at her work, but she actually worked for one of my all time favorites: John Saladino. Now that she has an established practice of her own, she describes her relationship with her clients:
I used to fill in with traditional work but now I really don’t bother. Actually nobody comes to me anymore for it. I’ve been around so long and either you like what I do or you don’t. I get people who want to start from scratch, to start over.
Her tips for fellow designers?
I constantly look for new materials. Plastics, different and strange metal finishes…there’s always something new. At the moment I love these hatbox toilets. Have you seen them? It literally looks like a hatbox shape but the tank and everything goes in it and then you have a mechanical seat…I mean it’s a $2000 john…but it’s gorgeous. Gorgeous!
Thanks for spotting this masterpiece and brilliant designer, Shannon! I'm hooked.

I'm Seeing Someone New
It's true. I've become ensconced in a new relationship. Before you write me off as a scandalous woman prone to infidelity, know that the relationship in question is with another blog. Yes, Designer Pages (my guilty pleasure for sourcing the web's most fabulous finds) has invited me to be a member of their blogger team.
What's in it for you? You get to hear the tale of our office redesign as it unfolds over a series of posts. You'll see me wax poetic over delightful slipper chairs. And witness my fascination with the staying power of those ubiquitous ceramic stools.
But fear not. You can't get rid of me that easily. Venti Cup is my first love. I just wanted to let you know where I spend the occasional sunny afternoon indulging my designer desires.

Pivot!
Whenever I hear the word pivot I am taken back to the classic friends episode where they move the sofa. I can't tell you the number of times I've 'supervised' while having people move large pieces of furniture for me. Like Aniston, I'm always confident they will fit - no matter how small the space. This is consistently met with much frustration from my helpful companions.
So when I saw the new Pivot table by Israeli designer Shay Alkalay I had to giggle at the name. But Shay's innovative design quickly halted my laughter. Talk about functionality. Storage, versatility and high concept all rolled into one cool piece of furniture. I initially only came across the blue version (as featured in the NY Times), but fortunately dezeen opened my eyes to the deep walnut option.
Who is Shay? dezeen fill us in:
Check out his studio Raw-Edges.Shay Alkalay is a young Israeli designer. Having graduated from the Royal College of Art in London in 2006 (MA Design Products, Ron Arad’s Course) he is now designing in his own Raw-Edges Design Studio in London

Just Saying Hello... and Thank You!
The best part of blogging is the discovery of new and wonderful people. This past week I had three new people swing by to say hello, and their blogs were so noteworthy I had to take a moment to share them with all of you.
First up is Michelle who authors Just Imagine. Her blog has no shortage of incredible imagery, but it's her enthusiasm and eye for the unique that will keep me coming back again and again. Michelle, I'm so glad to 'meet' you!
Next is a blog sure to make your mouth salivate. I'm completely enamored with Meg's take on life. A little food, a little family, a little fashion. What more can a girl ask for? Her blog, Dolce & Nutella, is just as sweet as the name implies. Thanks for stopping by to introduce yourself, Meg!
Finally, you haven't seen beauty until you've seen the collection (endless collection) of stunning photos on display at SimplyGroove. Something tells me this chic little blog is going to help me find plenty of ideas for design projects in the near future. Even her "have a nice weekend" image had me making a wish list. You've got a good thing going, darling. Keep it up!
If you've been lurking here and haven't said hello yet, I'd love to meet you! Leave a comment or send an email! Have a great week, everyone!

KELLY WEARSTLER home designs now online!
The long awaited release of KW's mod-baroque line of home accessories is now available online at BergdorfGoodman.com. Hooah! Here are a few of my personal picks...
You know I have to rock the iconic Greek foot. Yes. Call me a neo-Classicist (go ahead, I won't hear you), but I can't get enough of Greek and Roman artifacts. While it's scale may not rival that of Colossus, every time I see this I'll be taken back to Europe, if only in my mind. And isn't that what great interior accessories should do?
My need for luxe objects surrounding me at home makes this next item irresistible. Kelly's Confetti Bowl is sleek and modern while still offering an organic randomness that makes it seem like it came from a small pottery boutique on an off-street in Milan. While there may be thousands of these in production, you'd be pretty safe telling your friends it's one of a kind. Unless of course they're as cool as you, and already have a bevy of KW's objects. Then you're busted. ;)
The collection is a well edited (that's designer speak for small), but laced with enough variety to satisfy her throng of discerning fans. Get them before they sell out...

Arm Yourself for Nordstrom's Fearless Approach
I couldn't let the week pass without sharing one of this week's highlights: Nordstrom now offers free shipping. Yes, f-r-e-e. I've become a major Nordstrom customer in the past two years (have you seen their shoe department?), and find myself shopping online far more than driving to my local shopping center. Partly for convenience, but more so because of the seemingly endless collection of luxury items. Not to mention, their unparalleled customer service (unlike Neiman Marcus's outdated return process).
And while their shipping fee was always quite reasonable at $5 for any size order, it's just nice knowing I can shop with reckless abandon knowing that if I return it all (as I am wont to do with apparel) it will be a pain free (and fee free) experience. Shop fearlessly.
And now I'm off to buy some of those bangles she's wearing...

J Who?
Let's just get it out there. We're all a bit J Crew obsessed lately. It started on the sly, and now it is far beyond any of the stages of denial normally reserved for cult-like fan behaviour.
What I like most, is seeing how we weave them into the theme of our blogs. Take, for example, those of us more than just a wee bit obsessed with home interiors. We can still find myriad ways to integrate this purveyor of all-things-12-gauge-fine-knit-cashmere into our story.
Witness Habitually Chic. She has done a lovely expose on the catalog shoot at the iconic Kaufmann house. And Turquoise Chic... who I can always count on for digging up incredible photos of luscious interiors. Yes, our little style-minded vixen has also fallen prey to the (fiercely powerful) pull of the latest thigh grazing silk frock (available in sizes 0-14 and falling 21.5 inches from the natural waist). *sigh*
At least those who have readily called themselves fashion bloggers have an excuse. I expect Glossy Scented Magazines to lust after the male models in the catalog. I'd be disappointed if a post like this didn't appear. And Priya of Love Made Visible does such a great job writing about style in general. She's fully entitled to openly fawn over the latest installment of argyle goodness from the classic-fit broken-in chino (made of washed two-ply cotton twill, faded and frayed for a vintage look) masters themselves. And Coquette wouldn't be Coquette if she didn't adore the Campo de Fiore dress.
So how do I justify my obsession? I can't. Other than to say I've quietly been filling my closet with fresh picks from the 2008 line. Like this (lovely boatneck, three-quarter sleeve merino) sweater dress which I am so anxious to wear that I've already selected the shoes I'll pair with it. (Yes. Yes, I am 8 months pregnant and cannot wear my new cashmere cardigans and shift dresses yet...but they wait in my closet like an arsenal of style... awaiting my fashionable arrival... if nothing else, you have to appreciate my commitment to the cause.)
So let's just call it what it is and admit we're crushing on this brand in a major way. And by the looks of my closet and jewelry box, it seems they are responding very well to the encouragement. So stop denying yourself the pleasure. Head on over and clean up on their final sale items after you've drooled over the spring lineup. I promise you'll be happy you did.

Faded Glory
Not a fan of this trend at all. The melted/faded appearance of vases, handbags and dresses everywhere. Whether they call it 'dipped' or 'glazed' doesn't matter. You won't see me rocking any of these looks.
At least Prada had the good sense to let it fade (sorry) into the history books last fall. You'll see none of the above 'bleeding' looks in Spring's collection. But mass retailers like White House Black Market are still rocking the look. The clutch seen at the top is brand new.
Interestingly, I don't mind the home interiors variety of this look. That''s largely due to its more classic interpretation. Witness the glazed vase above. Clearly there's an Asian influence in the design. The inconsistencies in the glaze actually lend it an authentic, kiln-fired appearance. Objects like this (while available for almost nothing at your nearby mall) offer a richer appearance without losing their modern edge.
It's possible that I don't like the 'dipped' look in apparel and accessories because it seems too dated. It seems like this decade's version of tie-dyeing - which I've never cared for at all. I know I'll be able to identify any of these items as 'winter/spring '08' for years to come. I like objects that defy time stamping. Looks that stand the test of time.
I offer my sincere apologies to any of you looking down at your new spring dress, noting its gradient fabric. It is, after all, only one woman's opinion. And you might be the kind of fashionista who never met a trend she didn't like. If that's the case, send me a picture. I'd love to see you rocking your look like nobody's business! Carry on, fearless diva. Carry on!!!

Fresh From the Delhi
I've often marveled at specialized professions. Take for example, the team of clever girls and boys who dream up the names for OPI nail polish. It's a never ending source of amusement. Today, I selected Lunch at the Delhi - a yummy shade of coral pink guaranteed to put you in a good mood. There's always a play on words, a clever turn of phrase, a playful way with words. It makes you wonder just how large the dream team is at OPI's headquarters.
Can you imagine heading into a quarterly meeting dreaming up names reminiscent of the Iberian Peninsula? Or next fall's Parisian inspired line of glossy hues? I'd love to eavesdrop on the heated debates. A name could be borderline obvious like California Raspberry (boring...), but the real fun comes when we see clever names like Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey or Kreme de la Kremlin. Big points for creativity.
But if you're looking for a bit more Eastern inspiration, I can't help but point you to this season's India collection. The colors are as inspiring as the names themselves. The above color is Curry Up Don't Be Late - and if it doesn't put you in the mood for all things exotic, you might be due for a full day at the salon.Posted at 06:11 PM in style | Permalink | Comments (10) | TrackBack (0)
