Fresh From the Delhi
I've often marveled at specialized professions. Take for example, the team of clever girls and boys who dream up the names for OPI nail polish. It's a never ending source of amusement. Today, I selected Lunch at the Delhi - a yummy shade of coral pink guaranteed to put you in a good mood. There's always a play on words, a clever turn of phrase, a playful way with words. It makes you wonder just how large the dream team is at OPI's headquarters.
Can you imagine heading into a quarterly meeting dreaming up names reminiscent of the Iberian Peninsula? Or next fall's Parisian inspired line of glossy hues? I'd love to eavesdrop on the heated debates. A name could be borderline obvious like California Raspberry (boring...), but the real fun comes when we see clever names like Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey or Kreme de la Kremlin. Big points for creativity.
But if you're looking for a bit more Eastern inspiration, I can't help but point you to this season's India collection. The colors are as inspiring as the names themselves. The above color is Curry Up Don't Be Late - and if it doesn't put you in the mood for all things exotic, you might be due for a full day at the salon.

I have often said the same thing, I bet their meetings and brainstorming sessions are fun and I would guess at times funny! Love the creative names!

I do too, All the Best. You have to wonder just how heated the discussions become. I think the destination selection would be the best part of the process... Drawing upon what elements the locale inspires. Absolutely amazing to think an entire team works on such a detail!

They really do! I still remember the fall I wore “I’m not really a waitress”... It makes you wonder who came up with that name and why. I have on “Melon of Troy” right now. Ha!
Thanks for stopping by, Jess!

I thought the same thing, Maryam. The women, the jewels, the colors. Incredible. Everywhere I look right now it’s all about India – which is glorious from a design perspective. Even Hermes is having an Indian Pink moment. Luscious!

My favorite OPI names are:
~ Not So Bora-Bora-ing Pink
~ Tijuana Dance?
and
~ I'm Not Really A Waitress
but did you know they have a color called "Who Comes Up with these Names?" LOL!!!!! ... which reminds me, I need to make a mani/pedi appointment for Sat....

Oh what a riot. I had no idea. LOL. Yes, I still have an old bottle of ‘waitress’ around here somewhere.
Where are you mani/pedi’ing it these days, love?

The images are beautiful, and the names are so witty and fun. The only one I can remember from the top of my head was from when I was little, "Pink in the Afternoon" . . . I just really liked the lazy, sunny, sleepy way it sounded.

If you love these ads, you must visit Dubai/UAE... with its huge Indian population there are ads in all the glossies for Indian fashion and accessories and they're just as lush. The shops themselves with the sequinned gowns and bejewelled slippers and bags are hard to leave after entering.
