Faded Glory
Not a fan of this trend at all. The melted/faded appearance of vases, handbags and dresses everywhere. Whether they call it 'dipped' or 'glazed' doesn't matter. You won't see me rocking any of these looks.
At least Prada had the good sense to let it fade (sorry) into the history books last fall. You'll see none of the above 'bleeding' looks in Spring's collection. But mass retailers like White House Black Market are still rocking the look. The clutch seen at the top is brand new.
Interestingly, I don't mind the home interiors variety of this look. That''s largely due to its more classic interpretation. Witness the glazed vase above. Clearly there's an Asian influence in the design. The inconsistencies in the glaze actually lend it an authentic, kiln-fired appearance. Objects like this (while available for almost nothing at your nearby mall) offer a richer appearance without losing their modern edge.
It's possible that I don't like the 'dipped' look in apparel and accessories because it seems too dated. It seems like this decade's version of tie-dyeing - which I've never cared for at all. I know I'll be able to identify any of these items as 'winter/spring '08' for years to come. I like objects that defy time stamping. Looks that stand the test of time.
I offer my sincere apologies to any of you looking down at your new spring dress, noting its gradient fabric. It is, after all, only one woman's opinion. And you might be the kind of fashionista who never met a trend she didn't like. If that's the case, send me a picture. I'd love to see you rocking your look like nobody's business! Carry on, fearless diva. Carry on!!!

Yeah, I'm not a fan of this trend either, especially the purses. I think they just look old - not styled. The dress though, and maybe it's just the model, looks pretty good. I've hated faded jeans for a long time - at some point in the late 90s, I swear I couldn't find jeans without whiskers. Finally I bought a pair of APC jeans that were totally fresh and was able to wear them down naturally over the next few years. Great post!

OMG Adima said the same thing when I showed him that purse and the matching pumps in the catalog. I kinda liked them myself *shrug*.

p.s. I pray I don't fall victim to the high-waisted pants I see everywhere O_O *gulp* ... that is a trend me no likey one bit!

Oh the whiskers. The whiskers are the worst offenders! And there is seemingly no end to the production on those jeans. I still see them offered everywhere. Glad to hear I’m not alone in my disdain for that trend!

Maybe it’s the graphic designer in me... I still see the resurgence of gradients and think it is “so very 1998.” I don’t want it to look like I dropped my fabulous bag in an inkwell just before leaving the house.
But I will add this... I LOVE seeing other people experiment with trends. It’s like going to someone’s home and seeing a lemon yellow sofa. I could never have that in my current layout... But I love seeing someone else pull it off with aplomb.

it is the graphic designer in you 'cause Adima said (and I quote) "aren't gradients old fashioned?". swoon... a man after my own heart :-)

Can I just say I don’t want to see you in high waisted pants. Worse yet (or more daring yet) are high waisted sailor pants. You know the ones... Brass buttons flanking your abs, flare bottoms... On second thought... I’d pay heavy cash to see you in all your splendor ;)

DRATS! Guess I won't be wearing that nautical high-waisted knickers number I saw in the Viccy's Look Book to your shower after all :-<.

Hello Franki! Maybe not the clutches (even if they are Prada), but the dress doesn't look too bad, although it may well be the lighting and the cute skinny model. The glazed vase, on the other hand, perfection!

Franki,
That faded red Prada wallet is to DIE FOR!!!! I also really love the dress at the bottom. Lovely picks! Great taste as always.

Franki - I didn't read clearly enough before I posted my comment, sorry about that. End of work day. I love red and so I actually really like the look of that wallet. I do agree though that the fading look doesn't look good with many colors and can look old.
Karen *sheepish look*
