Life is a Journey. Pack Your (Stylish) Bags
Vuitton recently made the decision to cease print ads. I was shocked to learn this, considering I enjoy seeing the parade of new releases on the back cover of my favorite magazines. The brand awareness and resulting sales surely must offset the exorbitant costs of full page back cover ads. A world without print Vuitton ads? I just couldn't imagine. But Vuitton's decision makes more sense after seeing this lovely, alluring, seductive spot. All I could say is wow.. this is what an ad should do: entice. I think you'll agree.
Here's what the company's PR machine had to say about the upcoming campaign:
90-second spots demonstrate that cost is a non-issue for the brand. I'm excited about the shift in marketing strategy. It will be fun to see new luxury spots on the small screen. If this sample is any indication, it will bring about a good case of wanderlust and desire in the most jaded consumer. In an unusual marketing move for a fashion and luxury goods brand, Louis Vuitton said Tuesday that it planned to advertise on television for the first time, with a travel-themed 90-second spot that was shot in France, Spain, India and Japan.
The campaign, which will start Feb. 15, will run on cable and satellite television channels and in movie theaters around the world, the company said. It shows ordinary people, rather than celebrities like Catherine Deneuve, Andre Agassi and Mikhail Gorbachev, who are featured in a current print campaign for the label.
Louis Vuitton, a unit of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, described the advertisement as “the first ever on-screen corporate campaign by a luxury house.”

This is fascinating. I hate to think about the end of print. I love printed matter, and my job is based on it.
The ad is beautiful though. Fantastic art direction and cinematography.

I think some of us will always love print. And no one can replace greeting cards or glossy magazines or... Or so much. I have to say, I’ll definitely miss their (now expected) back page ads! :(
