Be Resourceful
One has to admit, getting information is a breeze these days. The real challenge is filtering out the fluff and finding the gems amongst the shards of glass.
In terms of interior design, several bloggers go far and beyond the call of duty when it comes to sharing their sources. Cote de Texas, Style Court, La Dolce Vita and the Peak of Chic all do an amazing job of revealing their sources for seemingly unattainable goods for chic interiors. I am continually amazed by their breadth of information and willingness to share the wealth.
So I thought I'd reveal some of my own sources for style, ideas and (my personal favourite) bargains. Let's begin with interior design since we're still on the topic. My latest technology-meets-needs crush is DesignerPages. It's like a playground for the designer in all of us. If I need to find an array of pedestal sinks, they've got myriad options to show me. Need to collaborate on a project? You can do that too. It's a dream come true if you have a client out of town (or even just one who is busy). I can't tell you how many hours I've spent looking at unusual wall coverings. It really is too much girl for a girl to have and still be considered work. Go. Play. Now.
Next up, I am a die-hard online shopper when it comes to fashion. Take me to Nordstrom on Saks and I'm likely to walk out empty handed. But online? Online I am a true shopper. One of the reasons for this is Retail Me Not. If you've ever wondered if there was a coupon out there right before you clicked "submit order" on the shopping cart page, Retail Me Not can answer that question for you. Submitted by users just like yourself, the site offers a bevy of coupon codes.
Better yet, some sites actually pay you back. That's right. Imagine getting 10% back when you shop at MaxStudio.com. Or 7% back just for shopping at eLuxury. You heard me. Money back. How? Easy... I use LuckyMagRewards.com or FatWallet.com every single time I make an online purchase. By logging in to these sites first I use a special link and THEN got to my desired site. A few months later, blammo! I've got a check or MasterCard gift card in my hand to go out and buy more goodies. I'm even earning 2% back on each eBay purchase. The percentages may not sound like much, but in just a few months I'm amassed a $345 rebate which should be coming my way right after the new year. Combine that with the money I save by making sure I have the latest coupon codes from the other site mentioned above...trust me, it pays to shop online.
So, those are just a few of my special sources. I hope you enjoy (and benefit from them) as much as I do. While we're on the subject of being resourceful... if any of you can figure out where I can buy this Burberry Toggle Bracelet, please let me know. After all, I need something to buy once my rebate checks arrive in January ;)
ciao!

Designer Pages is new to me! What fun; I may get hooked! And thanks for the kind comment too!

DP was new to me too. It took a bit to find time to play, but now that it’s filling up with products its a lot of fun. It’s easy to get lost in there LOL!

Great resources. Do you ever use Bluefly? Would love your opinion of them.

I write this looking at an open Bluefly box sitting on my desk. LOL. In short: yes. I adore Bluefly. The thing with them is timing. You have to sign up for their updates and buy on the specific days when they are offering extra discounts on that type of item. One day it’s 20% off handbags, the next it’s 20% off dresses. Timing with bluefly.com is everything.

Thanks for sharing, I love seeing more and more people understanding the value of sharing resources. Where often we hear the design industry so focused on competition and not sharing their secrets when the reality is the talent comes in knowing what to do with the wealth of information out there. Makes so much more sense to share what we know, we learn so much from the process and hence it's so satisfying to know you've helped someone find something fresh ... cheers to reading more over your great finds =)
