Desert Paradise
It's never the heat of summer I find so oppressive, it's the humidity. I'll take the desert any day over the swamp-like conditions of Houston or Chicago. There are many nonbelievers out there, but there really is a difference with a 'dry' heat.
This love of the dry air (and frizz-free hair) makes Scottsdale cry out like an oasis of luxury in summertime. I spent some time there a few summers back and find myself pining for it every year when the temperatures begin to soar. My prerequisite for a summer vacation typically requires palm trees, sunshine and sand. Scottsdale has all three, in addition to an abundance fo hip places to dine, shop and play. Who knew 112 degree days in August could feel so good?
Fortunately, not everyone shares my tolerance for dry heat. Due to rising temps this summer, the Phoenician resort and Westin Kierland Resort and Spa are lowering their summer rates. That means heat seekers can enjoy this paradise while saving their might dollar for more exciting ventures. Like dinner.
The Lobby has the scoop on this desert paradise: "A quarter-mile away, Scottsdale's evolving entertainment district now has more than 50 lounges and nightclubs, all within walking distance. On many nights, the hottest clubs have long lines snaking down the street. Can't get in at popular Axis, which pumps house music, or its sister club Radius, which caters to the hip-hop crowd? Try Suede, the dining room and lounge across the street, or Myst, a techno club a block away."
Assuming you can take the heat and decide to take your own sojourn to the desert, dine at Barcelona during your stay in Scottsdale. In addition to being a decadently luxurious place to see and be seen, the cuisine is not to be missed. Besides, you'll need a perfectly prepared dinner after your long day lounging by the pool.
